Quick question: I have a post, a recipe, from when I first started the site. I have better pictures to add to it (two years later). The original page has few comments and few inbound links. To avoid duplicate content, do I just edit the post with new pics or do I create a new post with the new pics?
Heather, False info on duplicate content is really out of control! The truth is that Google doesn't care about duplicate content, but I'm not here to argue that point now. What I wanted to do was give you a link to a webinar Lynn Terry did yesterday with Karon Thackston who is a well respected SEO copywriter. Here is the link, it's totally worth the time to listen to this. http://www.selfstartersweeklytips.com/media... - LeighaB
LeighaB, thank you so much for that link, that has been a concern of mine. Great resource. - Heather Solos

Do either Guitar Hero or RockBand have music that isn't Rock or Country? Maybe R&B, Reggae even?
guitar-hero-logo[1].jpg
rock_band_cover[1].jpg
i will ask my two yuts but they're both still sleeping and will be that way for a few hours - mike "glemak" dunn
No problem Mike, thanks :) - Shey, Jamaican of FF
Not enough to warrant a purchase for it I believe. Most would be downloadable content that you'd have to pay for. DJ Hero MIGHT when it comes out, but then again, that's a whole different set of play styles. - Sean Dunn
There's a DJ Hero coming out? Must find more info - Shey, Jamaican of FF
Not really. Such a shame, that both ignored such a huge market of music and DJ Hero is not the same. Someone from Rock Band had said, "Well, it's called "ROCK" band. and I replied, "Then why do you have country music? You could just as easily added groups like Earth, Wind and Fire, Stevie Wonder or Funkadelic." - Anika
Amen, Anika - Shey, Jamaican of FF
As of right now, not really. Mostly rock, a little bit of country (really, there are probably only about ten tracks out of 700+ available for Rock Band that are really country - maybe ten more if you include Southern Rock). There's Beastie Boys, whatever you want to consider that. And I think they're adding Snoop Dogg soon. My guess is that Rock Band will be expanding DLC into some of... more... - Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
FWIW, GH3 added Living Color. I was told that was the first black artist/group on either system, but I don't know if that's true. And Jandy mentioned Beastie Boys, which is something else I had mentioned last fall. With the addition of the Beastie Boys on Rock Band, there was NO reason not to add other rap groups, especially a group like The Roots. - Anika
Rock Band Network? That sounds interesting. - joey
Singstar and Lips have more R&B, but that's just singing - Rodfather
Jandy, thanks! That could make the game 10,000 times more fun for me. - joey
Shey, Anika ...I think a lot of it has to do with the music industry and their licensing practices. - .LAG liked that
What do you mean, L? - Shey, Jamaican of FF
Does the Beatles version contain the entire Beatles catalog? It's not worth it if it doesn't. - Andy Bakun
Anika - It's actually spelled Living Colour. :) There's not much R&B or anything in Guitar Hero or Rock Band. You could pick up one of the Karaoke games, though. I think there's quite a bit of R&B in most of those. Obviously they only involve singing, though, no instruments. - Curtiss Grymala
Andy, the Beatles version contains 45 songs on disc (list: http://www.joystiq.com/2009...). But they're releasing full album DLC starting with Abbey Road in October, then Sgt Pepper in November, and I think Rubber Soul in December. I bet they have the full catalog eventually. - Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
@Isaac 20 songs won't be enough for me to buy :( - Shey, Jamaican of FF
I can't wait for DJ Hero! Here's the lineup for that game - awesome mix of styles and artists: http://djhero.com/music - Nathan Chase
Isaac, many of those songs aren't in the game; that thread is people coming up with their own track packs. I know DJ Hero isn't the same, but it seems to be hitting some people and groups that the other game may never get to, even if they are in remix form. - Rob H.
It looks like Rock Band did release 1 Funk pack back in May with E,W & F and James Brown: http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US... - Rob H.
Isaac, those songs aren't on either system. On Rock Band (http://www.rockband.com/music...) all there is: Shining Star - Earth, Wind & Fire and ABC - The Jackson 5. Guitar Hero (http://hub.guitarhero.com/music-c... a song by Jack Black & Alicia Keys (I've never heard it), Beat It - Michael Jackson (which is more rock than anything), 2 songs by Run DMC (Walk This Way and King of Rock) - Anika
Shey ...I think subsequent comments explained what I think is the issue here: music licensing. I think that there's lots of artists and tracks the game makers would like to include, and which could possibly lead to brand extensions like "R & B Band" or "Reggae Band"... but I don't think they've worked out ways to license the music from record companies that make sense. What you end up... more... - .LAG liked that
@Anika, my mistake. You got me on that...and this is coming from a guy who plays just about every weekend. I thought I had seen a song that was included and figured the rest were legit (i.e., didn't realize they were just playing a game for what songs they'd like to include). My point before being: there are not enough R&B/Reggae/etc. to warrant a purchase of Rock Band...as Shey has probably realized by now. =p - Isaac Aggrey
Guitar Hero 5 features music by Stevie Wonder. Here is a link to the complete song list: http://www.joystiq.com/2009... - LeighaB

Nothing wrong with a little autism. People with mild autism tend to be rather intelligent. - Sparky Crocker

Mary, for now, yes. But she has risk factors so we'll see! - Rochelle
Good luck tomorrow, Rochelle. Hope Audrey's comfortable. - Ayşe E.
Very interesting. I didn't know they could test for autism. I hope that you can get that pic! - BEX
BEX, they can't really yet but this study is hopefully going to work on showing that people with autism have different brainwave activity. - Rochelle
At long last they are finding actual physiological things to measure for most types of Autism (Amygdula to some other brain region mass ratio), but it's not really online yet, like I literally just read about it a month ago. - Matthew DeVries

my son has been diagnosed high functioning. they had him in an autistic school... now they say he is normal. go figure - Noah David Simon
I wonder if Audrey will be cute with the electrodes on. - Matthew DeVries
CHDD at UW is awesome. That is where we took Theo for his early hearing evaluation/treatment. We also took him to the congenital hypothyroid clinic there. Good luck! - Joe Beda from iPhone

BBC NEWS | Technology | US file-sharer gets $700,000 fine
"A US student has been ordered to pay $675,000 (£404,000) to four record labels for breaking copyright laws after sharing music online." - Kol Tregaskes from Bookmarklet
isn't this a bit extreme? Would be curious what the community here thinks... - Valeria Maltoni
These recent fines are absurd and out of proportion. In the U.S. they should be considered unusual punishment. - Jack (a.k.a. Jeber)
I'm utterly puzzled how they can justify the ridiculously hi fines. How is this person *ever* going to pay this? - Kol Tregaskes
How do the record labels determine their losses? For 24 songs this seems like a very high award to the record labels. - LeighaB
I think it's extremely extreme. A student. Sharing 30 songs. A fine? Fine. How about a fine of 6 months salary or whatever income. That will teach him. Now he is damaged for the rest of his live. - Nik
I wish the music industry would've viewed technology as an opportunity and not a threat. Think about where the music industry could be if they would've embraced online file sharing - Johnny
In the end I believe there will only be one way to force the powers that be to rethink the issue: massive ongoing public "self-incrimination" campaigns. If large [edit: sizable will do] swaths of population walk into nearest police stations and declare themselves criminals on account of possible breaking of existing copyright laws, then the law will have to investigate, and penalize the... more... - ianf ⌘
What I struggle with is he didn't make any income from sharing. I find it hard to see how this crime compares to store theft where you may get a few weeks in prison, or a fine of a thousand or so. The payment just doesn't seem to match up against other similar crimes. I'd love to see the music industry doing something else to solve this, it seems the threat of enormous fines is their only reaction, they cannot control what happens online. Same threat in other traditional industries (Newspapers, etc..) - Mark Aitken
+1 ianf - Rene Wirtz
One word: ridiculous! - Rene Wirtz
A serious threat... I think more is coming. They plan to order the Net... Shit. - Ozgur Uckan
