“Thomas, suppose I said that I just bought a Canon SD1100 and it's so perfect a camera that I can't imagine that anyone uses any other camera. Not a SLR, not a movie camera, not if they're making a Hollywood movie or filming an IMAX from the top of Mt Everest. This is the last camera. ”

It kills all other cameras. The camera in your iPhone just stopped working. All the fancy gear you bought in the last ten years, pooof, it's gone! Why? Because I got an SD1100! :-) - Dave Winer
Is it RSS-enabled? - Louis Gray
Oh Louis, you're too much. - Mark Trapp
Except Dave I don't feel that FriendFeed is the last camera. I think it's the best camera and the best way to consume news with what we have today. But innovation stands on the shoulders of giants, as they say, and most certainly something better will follow FriendFeed, possibly even innovated by FF themselves. - Thomas Hawk
The problem is that Thomas sees RSS through an aggregator and forgets it also does stuff that doesn't look like Google Reader or FriendFeed. I agree though that FF has taken over a lot of my RSS reading time, though. - Robert Scoble
A better way to phrase this would be that the new Hasselblad CF 39 beats the old Canon 5D hands down (assuming price is no object), but that almost guaranteed another camera will beat the CF 39 in the years ahead. FF is far superior to any other way to consume the news that I'm most interested in and beats any RSS reader I've ever tried, hands down -- most certainly better technology will emerge in the future though. - Thomas Hawk
Scoble: Give examples of other ways you use RSS that aren't done be GReader and FF - Brian Sloane
Brian: widgets. - Mark Trapp
Dave, the camera in my iPhone has been dead to me since the day I bought the iPhone. That's what happens when you carry a 5D and 5 L series lenses everywhere you go 24/7. But I can't make phone calls or listen to mp3s on my 5D. The 5D, of course, will be dead to me at some point in the future as well. Guarantee it. - Thomas Hawk
I view RSS through XMPP using Spoonfeedr. - Sam Pullara
I have an RSS app bring photos to my HDTV. That is something FF does not do. - Robert Scoble
it's more efficient to view news through an input device with a keyboard than an HDTV -- especially if you are going to interact with it. Any HDTV that can act as a monitor though should be able to get FF though if it has a computer and keyboard hooked up to it. - Thomas Hawk
Thomas: you need a demo of what I am talking about. It is really a great way to see your photos. FF can't do it. - Robert Scoble
Defending RSS V1 in the face of social filtered RSS V2 (i.e. friendfeed) is like the old school photographer who refuses to give in to digital cameras focusing instead on the superiority of film cameras. The resistance to digital in the early days was massive. Eventually they all get there though. It just takes some longer than others. And the ones that never make it at all end up dying of old age in the end anyways. - Thomas Hawk
Man, always the way... I got the Polaroid that uses Atom - Andrew Smith
Okay, I tried -- I guess all the RSS apps I have running will insist at some point that I should appeal to the FF guys to add the necessary features so I can turn them off. I'll let you know when that happens Thomas. And good luck with your SD1100. I don't want to hear about you using an SLR! :-) - Dave Winer
Show me the way Dave, I'm always interested in a better way to consume news if it exists. Happy to try out any technology, especially when it comes with an endorsement from you. But this FriendFeed thingy is sort of addictive and damn fast and spot on for interesting content. I've tried Bloglines, Newsgator, Google Reader, and half a dozen lesser known RSS readers. What should I be using? - Thomas Hawk

Spending more time in FriendFeed of late, but it's tempered by Twitter's stability and uptime of late. It's a different experience, though, because of the influx of other feeds and services to let us see the whole elephant, not just the trunk, tusks, or tail. - Mark Dykeman
I'm on FF more lately, but probably due to Twitter down times (just stating the facts, not complainin'). Still, there's plenty of value (and mass) on Twitter, so it's not about "either, or". - Mike Sansone
I do too - Selma
I am spending a fair amount of time on FriendFeed because Twhirl seems to lag out after about 10 API requests (because of my shaped internet). - Timothy Neilen

Frankly, FF has eroded my time on spent on Twitter. However, to be frank its still like 50/50. But certainly (4 me), RSS is a thing of the past . I have imgainaryfriend that crowdsouces what best and a scrapper for 'on the wire' news alerts - Peter Dawson
Since I started using twhirl (they need to change that name sometime soon), I spend equal time on twitter and FF (Thanks loic) - Shivanand Velmurugan via twhirl

I am too new to FF to decide yet. I have the feeling that both are two different things. Twitter is one specific service, whereas FF is more like an aggregation site including some additional services like this commenting system. I like the fact that I can follow lots of people using Twitterific, whereas the Alert Thingy for FF is (at the moment) too much of an incomprehensible zoo (too much info on too little space). Anyone has a better FF tool for me? - Bart Muskala
I'm spending even more time here than Google Reader. I'd like to have friends like the NY Times, various Apple News sites, Huffington Post (just to name a few examples). I know I can make imaginary friends with their feeds but thats not the same thing. If everyone was able to add a NY Times Technology (or other subject) friend it would be interesting to see if friendfeed could be a friend filtered RSS Reader. - Delete Me

I've hardly been on Twitter at all over the past week or so - even when it's been up. I find that I'm seeing a fundamental shift in the way I communicate and spend my time online. - Colin Walker

Twitter is more dead for me in the past few days then FriendFeed. Most likely all the downtime but Twitter was usually much more lively. - Bartek Gniado
@Julian Baldwin, interesting to see that post about FF as a blogging platform: I have an mp3 blog, and i'm going to give it a Room here on FF, to see if that encourages more comments around the mp3's and the music reaching more people as a result.... - Iain Baker
This happened to me 1-2 months ago. - Mike Reynolds
Isn't it weird that most of the talk in FF and Twitter is about Twitter and FF. It is like we are locked here...:) - Doruk
Yes, the more i use Friendfeed, the less I use Twitter. - Ryo
