128 gigs is just too small. I can fill that up in a heartbeat and wouldn't want to have to lug around an external data drive all the time.
- Akiva Moskovitz
Have you installed Jaunty Jackalope yet? Recomend?
- Jon Tatum
Yeah - I could fill that up in a week :)
- Roberto Bonini
Jon, I did an in-place upgrade from 8.10 to 9.04 - no problems at all... ymmv

Leo, MCE Technologies has a adapter to replace the optical drive in the macbook pro with a hard drive. This would give you two drives in your MBP. The SSD and the orginal HD http://www.mcetech.com/optibay...
- Joseph Woodcock
Can you install and SSD in the MCE optibay and leave the old HD in place while using the SSD permanently as the startup drive?
- Brian of London
@Brian Yes you can. I'm doing that right now.

The speed and quietness are nice but for now I'll stick with more drive space.

Leo, can you write up how you did the install of this drive and the swap of the superdrive for the 500g drive on one of your blogs somewhere?
- Alan Alpar
Leo may chime in here, but I'm pretty sure he picked the Corsair on the recommendation of Allyn Malventano and Ryan Shrout over at PC Perspective as a result of conversations with them on the PC Per podcast / TWiCH. Allyn's SSD guide is here: http://www.pcper.com/article... I think tech's evolved quite a bit in the past seven months or so since Leo did this upgrade, and the PC Per "Dream System" is currently spec'd with an Intel 80GB Intel X25M G2 http://www.pcper.com/hwlb....
- Ken Sheppardson
Ken, i'm pretty sure you're correct that Leo chose that corsair based on Allyn's reco -- IIRC, the intel's are preferred, but are pricey, so Allyn reco's the corsair for just about the same performance for a lesser price.... and like you said that was a while ago and tech has evolved and prices have probably dropped as well

when system or program caches are too large to keep in memory, an SSD is a pretty reliable way to increase performance
