I didnt really want to add everyone i know on friendfeed to my facebook, i like to keep them seperate as much as i can. but you know what, fuck it http://www.facebook.com/simon... add a note saying you;re from friendfeed if you add me, then i can group everyone up :)
- Simon Wicks
Thanks, Simon. I've not started going through these yet. :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
I'm only going to add the people i actually talk to on here. I have a lot less people on my follow list than you, so its a bit easier for me :)
- Simon Wicks
Remember, guys. According to FB, you're only allowed 5000 friends. Spend them wisely.
- James Myatt
As if we weren't before? Were they really that many people here who didn't also have a FB account, even if they didn't list it in their profile? I've been with FB since 2004
- LANjackal
Well, with this news it is pushing me to start using my real name for web services and to kill (or at least slowly stop using) the tomit persona that I have used for many years. Find me here... http://www.facebook.com/ronaldb...
- tomit
FF better figure out how not to destroy themselves (if possible) with this merger. Friendfeed in the FB interface will not work. I think FF really just f*cked themselves.
- Ethan
I'm on Facebook, but I don't have a name in my profile URL (yet; I'm still new...). But if you want it, it's http://www.facebook.com/profile... -- if you friend me, tell me you're from FF.
- Dennis Jernberg
I don't freaking have one because I never wanted to sign up for Facebook. :P Now I find out that through no fault of my own I'm technically a Facebook user? GAH.
- Cheryl Jones
http://facebook.com/alex.covic - I will friend everybody - for those of you concerned with friend/family + privacy = you can create lists (just like ff-groups) to keep FF-users in a different corner;-).
- Alex 'BuckyBit' Covic
I do not use it much LOL I just post to it from other sites so to fill up my friends stream, I do get messages and some status in text. Anyone who really wants to add me, use the facebook link on my profile. :o)
- David Gross
www.facebook.com/drodzand you won't see much since I got the privacy settings on max in Facebook. Just another reason why I think Facebook is completely different from friendfeed. I hope they keep friendfeed running because I use both services in diametrically diverse ways.
- David Rodriguez
http://www.facebook.com/kimbers... (I can remember if I commented on this already. I don't see "You" on the list, but I'm tired. So, hopefully, I didn't. If I did, oh well.
- Kimber Scott
Thanks Rob, I had forgotten my username for I always used my email address to login - I found there is a settings > username > change thing that lets you change your username once and then you get a facebook.com/username url!
- TrafficBug
I am thinking about just using my Public Page more. Keep my regular profile for family and coworker data. Follow me here if you want more of the type of posts I do here of Friendfeed. http://www.facebook.com/pages...

Rational, Twitter usage is flattening, people are finally figuring out that Twitter sucks for having a conversation. People though Friendfeed was hard to use, try having to install several software 'crutches' to be able to use Twitter productively without even half the functionality as Freindfeed.
- Jeff P. Henderson
Either this is tounge in cheek or Robert really hasn't gotten over our breakup... Robert, I hope we can still be friends but we have to move on and grow... FriendFeed will always love you, but we need some 'us' time to find out who 'we' are... *cues The Bodygaurd soundtrack*... *walks out into the rain, adjusts collar, walks off down the road*... *fade to black, credits*

Comment bait. Even Robert can't generate interest these days.
- Russellreno
I agree. Friendfeed is for those who need more from a 2d interface. Until there spatial interface is there, Friendfeed is on top of the pyramid (especially when one knows how to use it best).
- Kirill Bolgarov
Lets hope so ... Miss some of my old peeps :)
- Charlie Anzman
I'm surprised Robert made this statement but I find it very interesting in the change of view and wonder what has changed his mind or if he knows more info.
- manielse (Mark Nielsen)
The unpredictably erratic Scobot is at it again...
- Ciro
Well, after glancing at his Twitter timeline, he's just making a bunch of joke predictions. I'd like to think that there's some truth in this one though...
- manielse (Mark Nielsen)
Sniffs... Do you smell that? It's what we used to call a troll. Robert is getting dangerously close to becoming irrelevent.
- Jason Williams
from iPhone
Robert is waiting until 2010 to respond to this thread. :)
- Louis Gray
Scoble - I disagree ONLY because I think that FriendFeed activity is already migrating to Facebook via deeper integration over there but I'm wiling to hear you out (as are the other 40+ people commenting here). Do share why you think this is true?
- Aaron Strout
I wrote this tweet for Twitter, not for FriendFeed. But nice to see you all! :-)
- Robert Scoble
Jason: I'm definitely irrelevant if the people calling me irrelevant don't even have 1,000 subscribers. Sigh.
- Robert Scoble
I actually see FriendFeed growing instead of slowing and there will also be new enhancements. A testing ground for Facebook. Just to expand, Robert's still the man!

- Johnny Worthington
@Jason Williams, wow that's the pot calling the kettle black, doncha think? Robert's not a troll.
- Jason Huebel
@Kol, somebody mentioned that those stats often only consider US visitors (why that would be, I don't know). FF's non-US contingent has grown tremendously, so that graph may not show the whole picture.
- Jason Huebel
I'm finding that FriendFeed is fiendishly sticky. On Twitter lists do help, they make twitter better and all but but but-but I think a lot of users are getting more sophisticated in their web usage faster than Twitter can evolve their tech. Louis Grey recently postulated that even if there is no interaction on FriendFeed it makes complete sense to stay riding this horse. That got me...
- JSLeFanu
Dude..... I totally hope you're right, but not too sure about this! LOL Explain your rationale please :)
- Susan Beebe
i agree with the original prediction. by the way, what's a resurgence? is it different than insurgents? :-)
- Morgan Haley
Morgan - the insurgents never left ... ;-p
- Robyn Hawk
I'll stay one faithful user, for those "outside the US" stats. Still feature plenty, still enjoyable. Still effective. Thanks for rallying the troops again Robert. Bring the hopes, and forget the ropes! 8)
- ElijahBailey-Zu of FF <0,
I like this whole thread. ++Akiva, Johnny, JSLeFanu, Jason Heubel, Mike Chelen . . . Robert, Twitter may have geeks and famous people, but you can actually do things here. Oh, wait - I'm not here. I'm in a widget on a blog in someone's Posterous whom I don't even know, that I'm searching through to find FF peeps to subscribe to over here. Now, that's just mind-blowing!

Nicholas, I'm not sure about it. Most probably in a few weeks, it seems nobody wants to use this in the US, so maybe we will never launch for UK. Even Turkish people are using it a lot but American friends haven't liked it. We included launching for Iran in our plans.
- Alp
I read that as FFS MS rather than FF SMS - I liked mine more ;-)
- Graeme Spice
That's great! Now I'll just wait till they have it in the Netherlands as well - or move to the states, whichever comes first ;)
- James Kuypers
@James I've no idea about how many of FriendFeed users are from Netherlands or other European countries. I think Russia and UK are the at the 1st and 2nd place about FriendFeed usage. Do you have any idea?
- Alp
Haha - Thought I'd check in with the movers and shakers of the Friendfeed community. It's Saturday night, and so far I find baby pictures and wedding photos. I think we can safely say that the action is now elsewhere..
- Andy Connell
Thanks for posting these, Louis! Sarah and Matthew look thoroughly content!
- Anne Bouey
You're welcome, Anne! Just for you, of course. Jesse, yes, Sarah loves zippers, including her own. She prefers to be clothing-free. And Andy, Friday and Saturday nights are family-friendly here on FriendFeed. For more techie stuff, please check the rest of my feed. Thanks!
- Louis Gray
well done the two of you what a great trip crumbs next time you might end up in Africa or Russia! When are we getting the Le Web mega summary predictions who you met and what we should know for 2010 blog?
- Thomas Power
We make fun of Nostradamus and numerologists, but give editors an anniversary and the floodgates open. We're anniversary-ologists, as USA Today might say. Unfortunately, trying to take the pulse of what happened in Eastern Europe in 1989 is more complex than counting back the years. Just as 1865 or 1945 can't be explained without 1787 or 1933, so 1989 -- the year communism either imploded or didn't, the world either changed or didn't and history either ended or kept going -- poses challenges. One can take the "I was there" approach of Michael Meyer, Newsweek's bureau chief for Germany, Central Europe and the Balkans between 1988 and 1992, in his book "The Year That Changed the World: The Untold Story Behind the Fall of the Berlin Wall." Meyer places the spotlight on what happened -- Hungary's opening of its borders, the Nov. 9 fall of the Berlin Wall, the domino decline of other Eastern European states -- while lacing in accessibly deep, if not Hegelian, historical explanation.

- Chris Heath
Love posts like this - getting uber-geeks in the loop with each other pushes the web forward maybe more than anything else
- Christopher Galtenberg
Thanks, Christopher and Jenna. I know this is not destined to be a high-traffic post, but it's the right thing to do, to help understand it a bit more. There are enough other blogs writing "10 Tips for Twitter Lists" already. :)
- Louis Gray
Johnny, I doubt the 2 are correlated, but it is interesting that both Google and Facebook released big Javascript APIs as open source in the same week. Regardless, it's always nice to see companies opening up more, something Google has been known for doing quite awhile now.
- Jesse Stay
Thank you to my 50,002 followers. Look through my followers here and compare to my Twitter followers and what do you notice? I see fewer spammers. Fewer bots. Fewer social media experts. Thanks for joining me on FriendFeed! It has been an awesome two years!
You're welcome ;-) A question though, where do you think we geeks will congregate next? I'm thinking that since Facebook now owns the Friendfeed devs, FF will eventually starve to death... hopefully not.
- Roberto Teixeira
But I notice a lot of users interact on FF via Twitter not directly on FF. Also FF faces tough competition from the likes of Posterous and Tumblr which offer more functionality with similar ease of use as FF.
- Roger
Roberto: Not so long ago this very FF post from scobleizer would get something about 300+ likes and 150+ comments. Sadly, FF users are surely looking elsewhere.
- Arvind
FF is ok, but its not the be all and end all Robert.
- Micky
I too think that friendfeed is still a winner... people that left just filtered themselves out of my conversations. They are no longer discoverable here to me. Their loss (imho)
- Chris Heath
Your welcome :). Friendfeed really really is awesome
- alfred westerveld
Yes Robert and Friendfeed is massively technically superior - Makes it even sadder that the platform here's being ignored by the new owners.
- Jim Connolly
Still the best place for discovery to me despite less interaction.
- Eric Logan
Robert - I love the community and friends here on FriendFeed. I am so happy I was on FF in early 2008 and got to experience it's wild and wooly growth path. Chatting with you and all these cool geeks is really fun. I've learned TONS from you guys and I truly appreciate the friendship too! :)
- Susan Beebe
I agree, way less marketing gurus and spammers =)
- Brodie Beta
Wewt! We are awesome, especially me </ego>
- Danny Minick
In my experience, I've been using ff more rather than less since the fb aquisition. I don't see why I would migrate to another community ATM. To me, Friendfeed is king. :) King of social media, that is.
- 'Like' robot (frɐnc)
Me, I'm sticking with FF for the foreseeable future. I'm even going to do my part to promote it, at least to my (right now) 1K+ Twitter followers.
- Dennis Jernberg
Friend Feed is the Future Robert and you just may be our Faithfull leader! :)
- PeaceMakersInc
Thank you, Robert. I have learned quite a bit from you-and you have created/moderated some tremendous discussions/issues. Best wishes to you and your family.

LOL. I agree. I have 413 followers on Twitter. When I ask a question, I get no responses. Same here. Does nobody like me?
- Zachary TG
zachary check their subscriptions against their subscribers and you might have an answer there

yup! there is a decline...don't know what friendfeeders are upto...foursquare might not be the complete answer
- ffcode
I'm still here. I tried doing the Google Reader thing. While it's a great reader, I think it SUCKS as a social platform. I still use it, but I don't expect as much out of it as I used to. FriendFeed and posterous are what I like best for what I do. Facebook is getting a little chaotic for me. I've made lists, but I think I need to start pruning... LONG LIVE FRIENDFEED!

I follow Scoble and I haven't seen this post reposted. But I have a mental filter for the phrase "Google Wave" right now. Except this post. HOW'D YOU GET PAST MY BRAIN FILTER, AKIVA??
- Jordan Hofker
Google on Monday released an experimental new content browser http://news.cnet.com/8301-30... called Fast Flip http://fastflip.googlelabs.com that makes it possible to see a curated set of content sites using a physical "turn the pages" metaphor. Fast Flip pages are cached by Google and load very quickly, which is cool. And if your brain is stuck in 1969 and you want to pretend that new-fangled computer in front of you is a microfilm reader, it'll feel natural to use.
- Mitchell Tsai
from Bookmarklet
In Fast Flip, neither standard Web rules nor print layout concepts apply. For example, in Fast Flip, you can only scan left and right (page by page). You can't read down the page. If you click anywhere on the page, you leave Fast Flip and go to the Web. Links don't work. And multimedia doesn't work on the page either. Fast Flip previews are, in fact, flat graphics files, which explains their lack of interactivity.
- Mitchell Tsai
...but "fast" rather than "interactive" might help. (Perhaps a button we can push to load a slower, interactive version? if we like the page we're seeing?)
- Mitchell Tsai

@pea - say the Friendfeed literally became just a testing field for potential Facebook features
- Zee.
I think that if FriendFeed keeps going on its current course, it will be an important pillar in the social media ecosystem, especially if they keep providing us with search and push updates.
- Meryn Stol
Let's hope Facebook introduces something like Google's "20% time". I can't believe anyone wouldn't want to work on FF then. I mean, FB can't get anywhere close to FriendFeed's coolness.
- Meryn Stol
My guess is there are a hundred engineers in Facebook right now that think they can R&D with the best of them. Do you think they think they need a separate department?
- Todd Hoff
I'd be okay with that as long as my Facebook and Friendfeed accounts weren't merged. I don't want any of my FF content showing up on FB, I don't want anything on FB pointing to my FF account. As long as the two remain unlinked, I wouldn't care. It would just mean more features to play with and test. I like that.
- pea
I'd love it. Anything that keeps Friendfeed the way it is.
- Keith - @tsudo
So long as we don't get any of FB's features and FF is left alone then it's fine by me. :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
It would be better for Facebook actually and leave FF a lone.
- Rob Cairns
That's a tough one.. depends on how much they are driven by users vs facebook!! If it was testing *just* what facebook wanted.. loathe. If it was iterating on what's already in place and NAILING IT.. love!! I don't have what I'm looking for yet..but I know the friendfeed team could do it.
- Chris Myles
If you don't see an "Edit" button, you have to log in and add it to your own maps first.
- John (a.k.a. dendroica)
To add your picture instead the default blue marker, you have to click on the blue marker at the top-right, click on "add an icon" link and type the url of your avatar
- Roberto
I'm on! (and sadly, the only one in Calgary - nice to see a few in Red Deer, though)
- Nathalie, Dreamer of FF
I added it, but the photo looks rather large. Just used the url of my profile pic. Very cool! thanks for setting this up! http://www.friendfeed.com/lizaspe... SF, CA
- Liza
Roberto, so you click on Edit, add your marker, hit Save then Done?
- Kol Tregaskes
Just added myself to the map. The Google placemark positioning tool sucks, too.
- Tyson Key
The larger icons are smashing the smaller ones. Oh well.
- Bradley Farless
@Kol Yes, my name appear in the list, but the marker is missing in the map (tried with and without the avatar).
- Roberto
from fftogo
anyone finding difficulty to add yourselves on the map? 1.click on the map-this will bring you to google map site 2.you have to sign in your google account to get the edit button on the map 3.then click on the edit button and add yourselves on the map. cheers.
- Hamid Mat sain MD
Just added myself, although, I slightly moved my placemarker, just so people don't know where I live :)
- MλTT
From what I've noticed: When I'm at the first page of 2, I only see those markers on the map...from the people that are on the first page. Do you know what I mean? I'm added on the second page, so when I browse through the first page I won't see my marker on the map...only when I go to the next page. I don't know if this makes any sense hehe.

Finally, proof that FriendFeed isn't just a Robert Scoble groupie hangout http://friendfeed.com/scoblei... My engagement hasn't gone down one bit. Also, the quality of engagement has gotten better.
I only hear this complaint from the "big league" people. interesting, innit?
- holly
I think people with personal connections are engaging as much as ever; the ones who are looking for social news interaction are going elsewhere so they don't lose that stream when/if FF closes down.
- Jennifer Dittrich
clearly the quality of his "engagement" is based on the number of likes he gets. Self-centred?
- Mel Buckpitt
Nothing against Robert mind you. I think this goes to a bigger issue with tech journalism. It could be that all the tech news is boring after a while. Heaps of Twitter stories and iPhone stories and Social Media stories just make me gloss over those types of articles. It's funny how the declaration has gone out that RSS is dying yet no one has address the quality of the content being pushed into the RSS feeds.
- Johnny Worthington
I don't know. I'd like to see some hard stats. My personal impression is that I have about twice as many followers but half as much engagement as from a month ago. But to me that just means I have to step up my game more.
- Stephen Mack
Stephen... indeed. As more people follow more people, it's harder to stand out. Great content will only get you so far... it often comes down to personality.
- Johnny Worthington
Just thinking out loud but... could this be a good thing? Could FriendFeed shed it's Tech/Nerdy image and develop more into a social place? Twitter is social with a mix of tech. Facebook is social with just a pinch of tech... Could this be the Great Social Flush of 2009?
- Johnny Worthington
(PS.. If Louis Gray has already done a blog post yesterday about the "Great Social Flush of 2009" and Google Bombs me... I'm gonna be fucking pissed :P)
- Johnny Worthington
The quality of Robert's experience has decreased because he is mucking around with Twitter Favorites. That's like putting a sticker on a Dell and pretending it's a Mac. At the end of the day, it still sucks. And the community will not reward bad behavior. :)
- Louis Gray
Um... Did Louis just give me self-BOMBage? Cause if he did... That's awesome :)

I don't get why a Yelp entry is supposed to get 150 likes. 150 likes is pretty rare anyway, so 59 (or whatever it is now) is very high. Don't expect me to like it, it's about an iPhone app. :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
It has 82 likes and it 4th down on the best of day page. What's the issue there then? :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
Just mentally preface all Scoble (Robert and Alex) posts by "In my opinion" -- it will make your understanding better and will help control your blood pressure. (I could have suggested "In my humble opinion" but that would be way to unrealistic).
- Brian Sullivan
Heheh. I knew this would get a conversation going. Truth is, I've been watching the engagement of other people's items too, but didn't want to use them as an example cause that would just be mean. I'd rather look like an egotistical baahhhsssttaarrdd than a mean one. Anyway, the reason the Yelp thing was interesting was because in the days before Facebook buying FriendFeed such an item would have gotten a lot more likes and comments.
- Robert Scoble
you can't say that with certainty robert... i understand that's your opinion, but you can't prove it and lots of us seem to be disagreeing with you... we can't prove it either and that's why it sparks such a 'debate'
- Chris Heath
Wait...Yelp stuff comes into FF? That must be a service I hide off the rip...
- Rahsheen ™, Coach Rah
To Robert's point about his engagement going down, I'd suggest that using a sample size of one item to measure "engagement" isn't really going to lead to any statistically valid conclusion.
- Ken Sheppardson
It has felt to me like I'm seeing fewer native posts from Robert, fewer "here's why:" items, and lots more fowarded Twitter convos and favorites. It wouldn't be hard to use the API to pull all Roberts entries from the past 2-3 months and count comments, likes, and look at how many comments Robert has posted to his own items. My theory is his that if his "engagment" has gone down it's in proportion to his participation.
- Ken Sheppardson
Robert's FF was never my FF experience. FB notwithstanding. :D
- pea
Ken: my own engagement has gone down too. I'm watching closely all sorts of things. :-) And I might not be able to prove it, but others are noticing too.
- Robert Scoble
I guess I should cover up...Mr Scoble is still watching. (Drama)...lol
- Bill Heslin
Yep and I'm going to keep hitting the like button! :)

In the wake of FriendFeed+Facebook, I get the feeling it might be better to move the "conversation" to a service like Disqus rather than something like Google Reader. The model could be start your own Tumblr/Wordpress blog + Disqus, then sub to everyone you know via Disqus
you like tumblr vs posterous...I started using tumblr the idea...they have tons of themes being developed everyday! I like posterous aggregation way better though!
- AlexKaris
Tumblr, Posterous, Wordpress... it fundamentally doesn't matter. My broader point is to take control of your own sharing platform, but then tack on distributed commenting/conversation vs just moving from one aggregator to another.
- Ken Sheppardson
Not a good model - too much overhead to maintain for the people who would otherwise want to be part of the conversation. (Like me.)
- Jason Miller
Yeah, I can see how that might be the case, Jason. Hm.
- Ken Sheppardson
I'm a huge fan of google reader. Not a fan of discussions on there though. I do, however, like Disqus.
- Beau Liening
from iPhone
What Jason said. Good idea but the model breaks down for people who don't feel like creating a Disqus account.
- Laura Norvig
Is it a bad idea to just stay with what you have until it actually has changes you don't like?
- Matt Hilton
I have a feeling that Google Wave will play a big part soon.
- Mark Layton
A smart client could also use the Backtype API to show blog posts your friends reply on, even if the blog doesn't use Disqus. Come to think of it, it would be nice if Backtype would also aggregate "likes" of posts. For example, FriendFeed "likes" and Posterous/Tumblr "favorites".
- Meryn Stol
Scoble is now a Twitter evangelist instead of an FF evangelist?
- Justin Long
It a function of social media - people tend to follow people that are "like" them and tend to agree.. or if you disagree you just drop them. So you are often singing in a choir with everyone else who is off key. ;-) la la lahhh la la (that is me singing well sort of)..
- Sherry Reynolds
Justin: until Facebook decides what to do with the FriendFeed team I am a lot less able to evangelize it. And anyway it really doesn't have a chance to go mainstream.
- Robert Scoble
from iPhone
Seriously? You're "shocked" more people aren't arguing with your valuation of Twitter between midnight Saturday night and 6AM Sunday morning Pacific time?
- Ken Sheppardson
I'm usually good for devil's advocate, and willing to argue things I know absolutely nothing about, but 1) I didn't see it, 2) and you're probably on target. You have a link?
- motownmutt
Also, Posterous has been having issues. They appear to be down again.
- Ken Sheppardson
I didn't necessarily disagree, but in a tweet reply, I said your post looked like it was headed, "Pre-posterous"
- Rex Hammock
I disagree with it, but not strongly and I don't really care, so I didn't want to argue. :-)
- Dave Winer
What I think is most interesting about your post is how it rocketed to the top of TechMeme. It feels like a sarcastic response from Gabe about your complaining about how he wouldn't point to your FriendFeed tweet from his blog when you got the scoop about the Yelp app on the iPhone last week. (Yes I think of TechMeme as Gabe's blog, foolish me.)
- Dave Winer
This thread reminded me of the following quote (which I adore for its kind and affectionate view!) and especially, Dave's post above...and really what FreindFeed is pretty much about: "It is exactly because argument is idle that men (I mean males) must take it seriously;for when (we feel), until the crack of doom, shall we have so delightful a difference again? But most of all I offer it...
- Melanie Reed
What thesis. Robert? Sorry missed it.
- Kol Tregaskes
If only one could comment on the comments. Lovely quotation Melanie Reed.
- Bob Boynton
I second what Dave said --> I don't really care, so I didn't want to argue. / I'll reserve arguing to stuff that's worth arguing about.
- Rex Hammock
That's the point -- we love you Scoble much more than we care about whether Ev and Biz are worth $1 billion or $5 billion. That's their money. They're still fuckers for doing the SUL. And I still want to find a new home where we own it instead of being at the mercy of such people. Their money is so boring. At least Jorge Lorenzo will sit down and eat a nice meal with you. That's who you should be writing about.
- Dave Winer
I could quibble about your valuation for Twitter -- I think you're a little over-exuberant there -- but I'm too busy setting up my new laptop. :)

Social Obama looking at a Social Robert Scoble's picture? This one is great!

Security Briefing: Anything goes bad during your Presidency, well... just "Blame Scoble" -that guy on the screen. Oh yeah, he's a huge geek that tweets so much the Twitter servers crash often, thus the famed "fail whale" image shows up. :) hehe!

Yeah engagement on FriendFeed has gone down. Only 59 likes on the Yelp news. Before Facebook bought FriendFeed something like that would get 150 likes.
I can't even get comments on tech posts anymore. I have more followers and less engagement.
- Ben Hanten
i've never had engagement... (on my posts at least) but my subscribers list has always been growing
- Chris Heath
Maybe cause 24 tech is boring after a while... That and the new Facebook app...
- Johnny Worthington
Gnomedex, came during the weekend and activity is still down. I didn't see much damage done after the first 2-3 days after the announcment, went back up to seemingly regular levels. (Update: My engagement has gone up.)
- Jimminy Fuller
I've had no change at all. it's all in who you follow/who follows you, I guess.
- holly
yep, was just thinking the same...question is...what do we do?
- Zee.
...that's because everyone is concerned/playing with the new Facebook app ;)
- Nicholas James
Hi Robert. Welcome to FriendFeed. Good to have you on board.
- Cristo
Maybe because you are using Twitter more now Robert? ;) As for engagement it is almost 95% out on my behalf so I have only noticed a reduction on other peoples.
- Travis Koger
from iPhone
I think it's time to start a meme...those always get the engagement flowing ;)
- Nicholas James
Self-fulfilling prophecy? I mean, it's not like the site itself changed significantly post-buyout (so far); IME it's been about as responsive.
- Andrew C
Funny. I hadn't noticed any decrease in engagement at all. Not sure if it's gone up, but it's definitely *not* gone down. This is just further proof that each individual here has a completely different experience from anyone else. Scoble, I think maybe your bubble busted when FF got bought :)
- Rahsheen ™, Coach Rah
Same. Engagement on my content is down, and so is new subscribers. I used to get around 2 a day, now about a few a week. So down. Or am I getting worse?
- Zachary TG
^^ Hmmm. I used to average 5 new subs every two weeks, now I'm at about 2 - 4 per day.
- Admiral Anika
Eric: You're supposed to save that comment for Twitter tweets ;)
- Nicholas James
It's because you changed your avatar to non green. Change back and the engagement will soar. ;-)
- Brian Sullivan
I've been less engaged because my parents are in town. We've been at the beach, canoeing, etc. A lot of people are out in the Real World this time of year. Come September things will pick back up.
- Bruce Lewis
I seen it go down some... I guess everyone is on Twitter or Facebook now
- Outsanity
The lack of Likes shouldn't be seen as a decrease in engagement. Maybe, just maybe, people aren't all that interested in the new Yelp app...
- Andrew Terry
from iPod
Even if I were here 24 hours a day, I would not "like" your Yelp post. Meh. :)
- Louis Gray
Holden, you got engaged? This must have just happened.
- Jimminy Fuller
it DID just happen and it WAS great. haha just kidding. no engagement.
- Marissa
Make sure you share the announcement here and include a link to some other person's announcement... I talking about you KOL!!! ;)
- Travis Koger
a) yelp is local b) its August so the world is on holiday
- Phill Price
What Yelp news? The iPhone app? I would never 'like' anything that has to do with iPhone. 59 likes for that is high, why would it get 150 likes?
- Kol Tregaskes
Kind of agree, but also agree with Kol for different reasons. I saw the item but have Yelp filed under "US only, not applicable to UK, good for them", and let it pass by.
- Andy Bold
Maybe people didn't like those news at all...
- Caio Cesar
Last sunday I stayed at home, being a bit ill. So I posted 11 different things on FF. Just 1 time somebody liked one of those entries. It made me realise the same thing as you are saying about your Yelp-thing (what's that btw? ;-)).
- Ton Zijp
I just checked the front page of FFholic and there is only one Robert there. I guess the second-order trend chasers left after the buyout? Not sure. Amusingly, a thread mocking this thread is on the front page: http://friendfeed.com/e...
- Daniel J. Pritchett
Or maybe [tinfoil] FFholic now intentionally squelches robert posts to make the mix more appealing than the old "wall of robert" they used to display [/tinfoil]
- Daniel J. Pritchett
Well I am seeing that activity has spiked on my FB stream which prob. translates to lower engagement / activity here
- Bindu Reddy
You are wrong : Yelp works only on the US, no one know this service in Europe for example :-) (and sorry for my english)
- Nicolas Gosset
Sorry to hear that! How is life on the other side? Say hi to Einstein and Ted for us :)
- Dilip Dand
Lol!!! First it was RSS and now Louis Gray. Glad both are alive :)
- Hameedullah Khan
oh this is great. i mean... uh... never mind. ;)
- Lori
I guess I'll miss you to buddy...muuuuaaaaaahhhhhhh (my evil laugh)
- Jeunelle Foster
The other side didn't want you to know yet, they left it up to your friend google because the news wouldn't be such a shock to you - To bad the other Louis Gray didn't find it first. Going to miss your posts
- Mac Sharp
What are those Dune, good enough rebuild people called?
- Matthew DeVries
Disembodied???? We need Ghostbusters and/or a skilled Exorcist
- Jeunelle Foster
I'm not even angry. I'm being so sincere right now. Even though you broke my heart. And killed me. And tore me to pieces. And threw every piece into a fire. As they burned it hurt because I was so happy for you! Now these points of data make a beautiful line. And we're out of beta. We're releasing on time. So I'm GLaD. I got burned. Think of all the things we learned
- Matthew DeVries
Louis you must be loved by the community because just look at all who came out to tell you how much they missed your early departure. All thanks to me of course and I mean that truly with all the sincerity I can muster...hehe :)
- Jeunelle Foster
heyy, FF works there.. good job Louis! we won't forget you man.. keep update your status, ok? and add some photos too.. all we are is dust iiin the wiiind..

"My responsibility is to be that better filter. More than 1,000 people subscribe to my shared items on Google Reader, and 10,000 more subscribe to those I share using FriendFeed. I know there are better filters needed, and so far, humans are beating the machines."
- Louis Gray
In the Information Age, you can’t pick up a new tool without changing your expectations on how you plan to use it. This isn’t something I had really considered until tonight during a conversation on FriendFeed with Louis Gray and others about Google Reader as not only a new player in the social networking scene but [...]
- Akiva Moskovitz
*liked FFeed's original UI* And Google's has been crap for a lot longer ;)
- Michael W. May
It took me awhile but I grew to like FriendFeed's original UI too (although I think the current UI, at least with my userstyle on it) is far superior. I think Google kind of suffers from the same problem that Microsoft does: making significant changes to their UI would be a massive undertaking. Google Reader and Gmail look similar for a reason.
- Akiva Moskovitz
Love the fact you're blogging, Akiva. Don't tell anyone, but you're actually pretty good! (And on the right track here, even if I think Google Reader is awesome. They're working on softening some of the edges, but yes, that discussion already has its own thread)
- Louis Gray
Woah, thanks, Louis! Don't tell anyone but I'm working on softening some of my edges, too.
- Akiva Moskovitz
Great post Akiva. You just won a GReader subscriber. ;)
- Alejandro
I bet the Reader gang will be thrilled to hear that, Alejandro!
- Akiva Moskovitz
Sometimes what needs to change in the UI is the badly thought-out, overly complicated clutter which constantly has me playing games of "find the setting"
- Slappy Line
You can lodge that complaint against FriendFeed. It's been discussed before but Discoverability here is incredibly low. How is anyone supposed to guess that if you hover over each Comment bubble, it'll tell you how long ago that Comment was made?
- Akiva Moskovitz
One problem I discovered during my brief flirtation with Google as a contractor is that UI innovation can be tough in an existing Google product because the frontend engineering can be a bit less than graceful. Every product has a different framework for the presentation layer, and much presentation layer engineering has been carried out by folks who have other "more important"...

I have the same problem with google reader, I have my own feed consumption pre-conceived notions due to my previous company. Combine that with my FriendFeed addiction and I'm doubly annoyed :) Things like gReader ordering posts by the date *google* found the item still irk the hell out of me. I keep trying to get over my expectations, but I just don't like greader and think it's not the "right way" to read news.
- mikepk
What's cool is that the Google Reader people are paying attention to us. Louis pointed someone from the Reader team to another post of mine (I'm too lazy to look up which one) and she responded in detail to the concerns we had there. It's really encouraging to know that they're listening.
- Akiva Moskovitz
Wow. I just now learned about the comment bubble time/date stamp. Thanks.
