"Every carrier charges for incoming texts or outgoing texts if you don't subscribe to a cell plan. Many people don't want text plans still. I use to err on the side of assuming everyone had unlimited text and data like me, and people set me straight. :) Some carriers are about 5 cents a text off plan, some up to 25." - Leslie Poston
