Meredith

Librarian, educator, writer, speaker, mommy, geek.
Had one of those great days out with Reed that makes me feel so lucky to be his mom. He was completely charming the whole time.
@rmazar I'd love to hear how it ends up going, because I'd like to see an online version of it in the future.
@rmazar WOW! I love the idea of a library failures camp! We can learn so much more from each other's failures than our successes!!!
@tinfoilraccoon That's the way it should be. It's not Thanksgiving if there's not an obscene amount of butter involved.
Had a very nontraditional Thanksgiving meal with the best steak I've ever had at home. Awesome meal! Reed had turkey, though.
@rjw Just wrote you back, Richard. Was Thanksgiving-ing and am just getting out of my food-induced coma.
Woo hoo! Found my work keys and my Big Toe (ugly doll) keychain. I was so worried about poor Big Toe! ;-)
@JediTrilobite No, guess I'll never get the chance to be... ummm... "cool."
@acbtanya Thanks for letting me know! It sounds like a really good model to me.
Just got a trial of Ebook Library (EBL). Does anyone else have this at their library? What do you think of it?
@joshuamneff Ooops! My hand slipped and the email not only was deleted, but somehow was also deleted from my deleted items folder! DARNIT!
Maybe if I ignore this email I don't want to answer long enough it'll go away.
It would be a real shame if you accidentally deleted that email. - joshua "magic" neff
@cpellegr Awwww! Way too cute! Reed has 2 ugly dolls already. You need to get him a travel-sized version for when you go out-of-town. :)
@JediTrilobite uh, yeah... "cool kids"...
Can't find my work keys and it's pathetic that I'm more worried about losing my ugly doll keychain than the keys. BIG TOE where are you???
@copystar Ah, there's so much you can get out of with the parenthood excuse -- also so much you can't do anymore b/c of it!
Quick question for Tweeps and FF'ers - what library blogs (created by a library) are you particularly impressed with?
Shelf Talk by Seattle Public - Abigail
Thanks Abigail! - Meredith
My friend John at VCU started a great book review blog http://blog.vcu.edu/bookrem.... And I really like our blog at UWyo Libraries, authored mostly by my colleague Cass. http://uwlib5.uwyo.edu/blogs.... - Kaijsa Calkins
I like your library's blog too Kaijsa! - Meredith
MadReads is good stuff, and they seem to get a pretty good response to it: http://www.madisonpubliclibrary.org/madread... - D0r0th34
I'd have to second MADReads. It does unusually well on almost every metric, and is subjectively a winner as well. - Walt Crawford
http://dltj.org/ and http://scienceblogs.com/bookoft... are some of my favorites. They're not created by a library as an institution, though. - Mr. Gunn
Thanks so much for the recommendations! I'll definitely highlight these for my students next semester! - Meredith
Well, if library-hosted librarian blogs are in scope, then Scholarly Communication @ Duke is a standout: http://library.duke.edu/blogs... - D0r0th34
New post: Edublog Award Nominations http://meredith.wolfwater.com/wordpre...
@lichen Thanks! Hadn't seen this one before.
@surferrosa Thanks! Hadn't seen that one either!
Do born-digital materials belong “in” special collections? - http://hangingtogether.org/...
@RyanDeschamps Awwww. :) That is a really nice hat and a great message promoting CC. You are awesome!
ALCTS webinar on collection development - http://www.beyondthejob.org/...
@JediTrilobite Yes, I think I saw that on South Park ;-) http://www.southparkstudios.com/clips...
Working on essay for ALCTS on issues/trends/developments in the information environment '10-'20. Am SO not a futurist, so challenging 4 me.
Still haven't been able to eat today -- even water is making me nauseous. Heading off to work for a few hours and then back to bed, I hope.
@jaimebc What an amazing blog and what a sad story! I have no problem with ads on blogs since it doesn't necessarily impact content.
I now have almost three times the number of students registered for my class next semester. Flattering, but am nervous about having 3x the work while doing my day job and being a mom.
You can do this. - David Damore
don't they cap student numbers? That sounds a bit problemmatic. :( - Fiona Bradley
They have a cap, but they upped it this year. - Meredith
One of my coworkers is signing up for a class with you I think :) - Abigail
This is not my blogosphere - http://blog.wolfwater.com/2009...
Now, Meredith, you clearly haven't seen Dave Winer's views on "the nobility of blogging." ;) http://www.scripting.com/stories... - Mar₭ the Engaged
What you mention is just one of the many reasons that I find Winer's comments on blogging--and I know his relationship to the platform--beyond absurd! - Mar₭ the Engaged
