LinkedIn 2.0 - Social Profession Marketing Room(self marketing, network marketing, etc..)
Post public LinkedIn profiles of yours or people from your network. Then use the comments to share your specialties and what you're looking for.
"When developers get their hands on a social media platform, amazing things tend to happen. For example, Facebook transformed web apps when it launched the Facebook platform. The result has been everything from Facebook Connect to FarmVille. Twitter’s an even better example when you start thinking of the countless Twitter apps for mobile phones and the desktop. That magic is exactly what LinkedIn (LinkedIn) is hoping will happen with today’s launch of the LinkedIn Platform, which opens up outside applications to use LinkedIn’s data. Oh, and TweetDeck (TweetDeck) will be launching LinkedIn integration this week."

Now there’s a new Twitter (Twitter) partnership launching tonight. This one is between Twitter and LinkedIn (LinkedIn), the popular business social network. Starting tonight and tomorrow morning, users of both services can sync their status updates. Yes, you can tweet from Twitter and it will update your LinkedIn, and vice versa.
- barbarars
I just hope none of my contacts send ALL their tweets into linkedin, just the work related ones with #in
- Mitchell McKenna
i am using #in selective option but i have noticed that some users are displaying all their tweets in their linkedin status update

"Business social network LinkedIn, fresh off its milestone of 50+ million users, is now getting a makeover, and it definitely changes the way you use the social media website."

OMGWTFBBQ: if CONC trees replace CONS lists, then mapreduce can be parallel - Tech - Soft Machine³ - Arts Tech and Other - http://www.softmachinecubed.com/tech...
" * CONS (or “Lisp”) lists are inherently linear and sequential. One of CAR, CDR is constant-time, and the other is linear (on the length of the list). For a given list, there is only one CONS representation.

* CONC primitives are null <>, singleton <42>, and “concatenation” a || b
- Richard ¿digame? Walker
* CONC trees can represent CONS style lists, or balanced binary trees, or sparse trees, or other structures. * CAR CDR and CONS are compared to CONC primitives… and rather than use accessors left, right Guy prefers a SPLIT functional accessor which calls the second argument (a function) with the left and right parts as parameters.
- Richard ¿digame? Walker
* Guy says this somewhere later on, and it’s easy to miss: “We are going to use CONC trees to optimize delay”
- Richard ¿digame? Walker
* An important goal is a corollary to the equivalence (cons (car xs (cdr xs)) = xs
- Richard ¿digame? Walker
* which is this functional gem: (split xs (λ (ys zs) (conc ys zs))) = xs "
- Richard ¿digame? Walker
Think of the lambda λ as a continuation, and a way to keep the left and right together. In practice, split does not have to behave uniformly, but for the sake of this talk, consider split to be purely functional with no side effects. You will notice we now have a corollary to the most low-level CONS equivalence, but one which is expressed functionally, recursively, by “binary decomposition and reassembly”

Kind of like LinkedIn but with less formality, something that would use Facebook Connect, Twitter, FriendFeed, LinkedIn etc. etc. Your friends can leave supplementary comments to say why you'd be ideal for the job, but allow others to leave just a simple digital signature?
- CannonGod
...people with larger networks of friends -- online and/or real -- would get an (unfair) advantage over folks who either don't have a lot of friends (for whatever reason) or who haven't yet developed their online social networks (for a variety of reasons).
- .LAG liked that
True enough, though I think it should be taken into consideration as a supplement to application. In all fairness I wish more people saw the relevance of joining LinkedIn.

If you're looking or not what type of work are you after too? I'm after any reporting/data-related work, like data/reporting analyst, or can do QA, basic accounting, basic network admin, technical support and some photography. :-) #whatsyoururl

I like it, and I love your community initiatives here, well done! I think I should feature you in a post.... hmmm getting ideas on questions as I write ;)

I know of several cases where people have created two LinkedIn profiles, which can be confusing. Is it possible for a person to merge two LinkedIn profiles into a single profile?
actually for the account owner, merging is currently not possible. take a look at the related entry in the faq. http://www.linkedin.com/static... "I accidentally created two accounts, Can I merge them?"... BTW, what's the point for purposefully creating multiple profiles?
- Berk D. Demir
for the reader, merging can be possible though. LinkedIn uses hResume microformat to display the LinkedIn Resumes of its users in a semantic way. That said, parsing and merging profiles is possible, not trivial anyway.
- Berk D. Demir
Berk, I assume that the person may have forgotten the password, or perhaps even forgotten that the account was created in the first place. It doesn't appear that any of the duplicate accounts were created intentionally.
- John E. Bredehoft
@John, creating a LinkedIn profile is a tedious and gruesome experience. Many fields to fill-in, the ceremony and the ritual dance to login and customize settings... Oh, my... How someone can just "forget" about that previous experience. OK, anyway I don't want to steer this out of scope. I think I've already answered your question from multiple perspectives (profile owner and reader wise). Did it help?
- Berk D. Demir
If you have 2 business/services you offer, should you have 2 LinkedIn accounts or just have it all under one? I do have separate Twitter accounts....1 for each of the biz's and one for my personal. Seems crazy, but then again.....these 2 biz's don't really overlap each other. Or should I just concentrate on one in the "social media" arena?

+1 Wizetux. Anyone who hasn't learned that by now deserves the consequences

FTA: "... until the network finds a better way for people to segment what info outsiders can see ..." - Huh? FB has more privacy settings than you wave a stick at, and it's easy to be very selective in your sharing.
- LANjackal
Facebook's privacy settings are pretty awesome compared with similar sites - I'd say it's one of the reasons I migrated to it.

Amy, +1. in addition to wizetux, that mean your FB friends won't be your next employers. :) ? we know some examples like this >> http://ff.im/6nbdg

"You might be using LinkedIn to stay connected with your business contacts, but there are alternatives on the Web that will help you network and enjoy some extra features while you're at it. Whether you want to hang out at some professional parties or you're more interested in sharing best practices, there are some really neat business-centric social networks on the Web you'll want to visit."

This is perhaps a dumb question, but is there a limit to the number of connections you can have with a free LinkedIn account? I am sure I saw a message somewhere on LinkedIn which said something like "You may add x many more people" but I can't find the message for the life of me now! Any clues please? Thanks.

"A month-long poll conducted on business social network LinkedIn has uncovered some fascinating numbers concerning social media platforms and brand presence. The biggest surprise was that Twitter was deemed more important to brands than LinkedIn, and the poll was performed on LinkedIn. With more than 3,600 respondents so far, each well understood in terms of job titles, company size, age and gender - this is a high-quality data set worth paying attention to. The question asked was simply: "What is the most important new platform for brands to master?" Options were Twitter, Facebook, the iPhone, Digg and LinkedIn."

Linkedin has become more of a place where people prey on those looking for work or the key to SM fame and fortune. Sad, there was much promise there. I still use it, but find more and more people wanting to make me rich than wanting to network and share. Twitter was bound to head that way, shame Linkedin has turned into what it has.
- Mark Edwards
I disagree as well Twitter is definitely a place to learn about the characteristics of a person, but LinkedIn/Plaxo, etc are where to learn about their qualifications. Granted...unless you do a background check on that person, you still won't know how true they are.
- clarke thomas
This result is a no brainer. Brands talk to their customers on Twitter
- Paul Roberts
Linkedin is still very powerful for networking and connecting to people in industries/jobs you are interested in.

"I sometimes have trouble when I’m talking to people at work who aren’t savvy with this whole Web 2.0 thing we’ve got going on here. I use the words Social Networking for some instances and Social Media in others. I don’t explain the differences because to most laypeople, there is none and really, when I start to go into my theory, eyes glaze over and my colleagues suddenly find that the coffee truck must be outside the building somewhere and they have to hurry or Bob from accounting is going to take the last corn muffin."

"But since this is the bread and butter of many of the people reading this right now, I think it’s safe to assume we can skip the gory details and get right into the meat of things. First, is there a difference between Social Media and Social Networking websites? Yes. And no. And it depends."
- Kol Tregaskes
"There is a big distinction in the terms Social Networking and Social Media. While many use these two terms interchangeably, you can separate them and the websites that represent one or another or even both effectively."
- Kol Tregaskes
It's a Venn diagram. Social media is the content, social networking is the relationship & conversation, social bookmarking is leaving links. like any good venn diagram they do intersect
