"A month-long poll conducted on business social network LinkedIn has uncovered some fascinating numbers concerning social media platforms and brand presence. The biggest surprise was that Twitter was deemed more important to brands than LinkedIn, and the poll was performed on LinkedIn. With more than 3,600 respondents so far, each well understood in terms of job titles, company size, age and gender - this is a high-quality data set worth paying attention to. The question asked was simply: "What is the most important new platform for brands to master?" Options were Twitter, Facebook, the iPhone, Digg and LinkedIn."

Linkedin has become more of a place where people prey on those looking for work or the key to SM fame and fortune. Sad, there was much promise there. I still use it, but find more and more people wanting to make me rich than wanting to network and share. Twitter was bound to head that way, shame Linkedin has turned into what it has.
- Mark Edwards
I disagree as well Twitter is definitely a place to learn about the characteristics of a person, but LinkedIn/Plaxo, etc are where to learn about their qualifications. Granted...unless you do a background check on that person, you still won't know how true they are.

This result is a no brainer. Brands talk to their customers on Twitter
- Paul Roberts
Linkedin is still very powerful for networking and connecting to people in industries/jobs you are interested in.

"I sometimes have trouble when I’m talking to people at work who aren’t savvy with this whole Web 2.0 thing we’ve got going on here. I use the words Social Networking for some instances and Social Media in others. I don’t explain the differences because to most laypeople, there is none and really, when I start to go into my theory, eyes glaze over and my colleagues suddenly find that the coffee truck must be outside the building somewhere and they have to hurry or Bob from accounting is going to take the last corn muffin."

"But since this is the bread and butter of many of the people reading this right now, I think it’s safe to assume we can skip the gory details and get right into the meat of things. First, is there a difference between Social Media and Social Networking websites? Yes. And no. And it depends."
- Kol Tregaskes
"There is a big distinction in the terms Social Networking and Social Media. While many use these two terms interchangeably, you can separate them and the websites that represent one or another or even both effectively."
- Kol Tregaskes
It's a Venn diagram. Social media is the content, social networking is the relationship & conversation, social bookmarking is leaving links. like any good venn diagram they do intersect

I'm sorry for this rather unpleasant message but LinkedIn group is for sharing personal LinkedIn profiles and everything directly related with LinkedIn. We, admins of this room will not tolerate any kind of spam. Be aware, links to personal blog entries which are not _directly_ related with LinkedIn are also deemed SPAM.
"Let’s make a bet. A safe one. I’m sure there’s more than a few of you out there that have spent hours, even days crafting the perfect cover letter and polishing your resume for a group of prospective employers, only to never hear back from any of them. You swear you knocked it out of the park, but you just didn’t get the response you were hoping for. The reality is that there were at least a dozen other people that did the same thing and thought they knocked their resume and cover letter out of the park too."

"In November 2008, we launched LinkedIn Events – a product that enabled users to add an event and/or RSVP to an existing event. LinkedIn would let their network know they were attending by sending out a network update and displaying the event as a badge on their profile. Moving forward, we have made it even easier to find what events your professional contacts are attending or speaking at.We have put together an experience that many users have been asking for: a way to see what events your connections are attending. Also on the new LinkedIn Events home page is a list of the most popular events in your industry, the events that you have RSVP’d to, all event related network updates, and the ability to search all of our events, add an event, or express interest in enhanced event listings."

Reid has also been one of many entrepreneurial voices who continue to reiterate the importance of encouraging entrepreneurship and it’s impact on bailing us out of the dire economic straits we find ourselves in today.TechCrunch, a leading technology blog, and Founders Fund, a Silicon Valley-based venture capital firm, just announced an annual program honoring technology innovators for achievement and excellence in high-tech entrepreneurship, the TechFellow Awards. For those of you who are interested, here’s a brief description of the awards."

"It’s almost May and graduation is right around the corner. A year ago, many college juniors were expecting to be popping the academic bubble and taking the next step toward independence–and some have. But the short-term job outlook is more uncertain for many others and stress-levels are beginning to ratchet up. So what can you do to kick-start your career? Here are four tips."

"This is the sentence I find myself thinking whenever a college student says something like, “I’ve sent out, like, a hundred resumes and I still haven’t found a job!”. Emailing out resumes and waiting for a response used to be a perfectly decent strategy for finding a job. Not anymore. Today’s job seekers, especially ‘09 grads job hunting in a recession, need to be more creative, more proactive and more tech savvy than ever before. We are blessed to live in a time when there are so many new job hunting tools and techniques. Take advantage!"

"Do not fret. There is good news out there. Contrary to public sentiment, companies are hiring. One of our largest clients is a global Fortune 100 company that laid off 3,300 people in the fall of 2008. This was a very scary development; not only to those who lost their jobs, but also for our firm. Fortunately for us this company is reinvesting more than $1 billion into their business, and along with that will surely come added hires. This just goes to show that recruiters like us do have jobs to fill even in turbulent economic times. Social media tools such as LinkedIn make our businesses more efficient and often allow us to find job seekers more efficiently, a topic of a recent post by Boris Epstein on Mashable."

"You only get one chance to make a first impression and for nearly 300 years the humble business card has been the primary tool for transferring business information to new contacts in a universal and memorable format. Even today, in the exciting, digital world of LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter, this simple, tactile product goes from strength to strength. Indeed, the more digital the world becomes, the more powerful useful offline tools like business cards become."

Is there any possibility to share, on Friendfeed, discussions in groups? I posted an open discussion and received, so far, 15 feedbacks all of which interesting and worth sharing. Besides a personal profile what else from LinkedIn can one share on FF?
Do your group discussion have a RSS feed option? If so, I think you could add it to your profile and then we could see the conversation and continue it.

I think it could be wise for us to only include the ONE feed from the LInkedIn Blog which shares nice, new features. What do we think? I will post the latest one as an example.

I found linkedin a great place to post questions and get some solid answers. I regularly use linkedin to find out what people want to read and it helps me gauge people's interest about a specific topic or niche
Noticed something interesting on LinkedIn. If you and your connection are a member of the same group then that group won't show up in the "Groups and Associations" item of your friend's profile.
For corporate recruiters, and also for recruiters working in third party firms, using LinkedIn can come with hassles. Owners and Executives are very nervous about allowing recruiters to build networks that leave when the recruiter leaves. Some are even foolishly trying to get employees to sign statements promising to turn over the LinkedIn accounts if they leave (it's a violation of your TOS, if you do, btw).

Is there any way to report whenever a discussion seems to have nothing to do with the group is about? Honestly I'm tired of reading posts where people only want to extend their network (which is the reason why I stopped receiving e-mails).
