Full disclosure: I am a Blackberry fan. I’m also a fan of Google. Thursday, Blackberry email was down for a good portion of the day in many areas of the country. I was affected. I turned my phone on around 6:15am EST and received about 5 messages. I didn’t get another message pushed to my phone [...]

It's really hard to choose, but GZA has the best lines and closes this off in a way that says this is a force to be reckoned with. Ahh... 1992!
- Adrian
Deck has the best verse, as he does on most Wu joints.
- Bryan R. Adams
Deck tends to dominate their best posse cuts. It's like he feeds off their already off-the-scale collective energy and pushes it up a notch. That's his superpower.
- Adrian
But GZA's verse on this track tends to stick in my mind long after the song is over.
- Adrian
...And I'm the dirtiest thing in sight. Matter of fact bring out the girls and let's have a mud fight.
- Remo
I think it's a PSA on how to completely kick ass all over Paris. You can't send your 19 year old daughter overseas with an escort unless you are rich. As horrific as the crimes portrayed are, the fact is that such abductions are rare indeed.
- Alex Scoble
Liam Neeson was raw dog in this film. I think he coulda put up a good fight with Bruce Lee. LOL.
- Bryan R. Adams
Honestly, I couldn't understand why they thought the trip was a good idea. I would never send my child overseas like that.
- Rahsheen ™, Coach Rah
Rah - If you remember, Liam Neeson's character didn't think the trip was a good idea. He was lied to about where she was going and who was going to be there. The mother, though, was an idiot. A major issue pointed out to me about this movie was that Liam Neeson's character didn't do anything to help all of the other girls he encountered while searching for his daughter. He had the ability and opportunity to help them, but instead he just left them there.
- Curtiss Grymala
I wasn't including him in talking about the trip being a good idea. He clearly objected. As far as helping those girls, I think he may have realized that he was dealing with an entire organization that couldn't really be taken down easily and was focused on getting his daughter out of it. It would be like going after crack dealers to get your kid off drugs. It just wouldn't work.
- Rahsheen ™, Coach Rah
I have to give one of my BNI Chapter 7 colleagues a shout out. What she did at today’s meeting, while subtle, showed some real networking tenacity. Let’s hear it for Adrienne Woods Blankley of Arent Fox LLC. At today’s BNI meeting, she brought a guest. The comedian Dread Archie. Some weeks before, she referred this gentleman to me [...]

I love the fact that we had an after party and and after after party. Not quite Tracy Jordan/30 Rock style, but pretty good for a guy who's normally to bed by 9:30. :)
Hah. Our after party was us having a little dinner and then going to sleep.
- Akiva Moskovitz
I saw the pix on Dotcom's and Griz's facebook pages. You really had a good time.
- Bryan R. Adams
I love it, Alex. There are only so many opportunities to have the people you love in the same place. I think I'd rather celebrate with my friends than try to have a 'traditional' wedding night with all of the cultural expectations that entails after what must be an exhausting day. I'll probably do what Akiva did, though.
- joey
Pulleeze.. people.. I'm with Joey and Alex. Party with family and friends.
- CW™
We spent the better part of the week leading up to the wedding with family and friends. The wedding and wedding night were all about *us*.
- Bren -- Not Grinchy
from iPhone
Yeah, unfortunately because the fact that most of our family was from out of town and this was a winter wedding, we didn't have that luxury. The honeymoon will be all about us.

If one or both of you are virgins, then what Johnny said. If you've already well-debugged each other's code, and interfaced with all the addons the API affords, then what joeybean said.
- Matthew DeVries
I was, of course, being facetious with my first comment. I'm really glad you guys got to enjoy your family and friends, and the wedding went off well!
- Bren -- Not Grinchy
from iPhone
IMO, there is no wrong way to do it as long as you're still married at the end of the night ;)
- joey
I don't mean to be crude but... Now that you are married, Alex, you will come to know there are few times when it's a lay down misere... Know those times well and take full advantage :P
- Johnny Worthington
Concur, joey! That was our mantra for weeks leading up to the big day
- Bren -- Not Grinchy

In order for you to be crude, Johnny, I'd have to know what you meant hehe

"A Misere bid usually indicates an extremely poor hand, hence the name. An Open or Lay Down Misere, is a 500 bid where the player is so sure of losing every trick that they undertake to do so with their cards placed face-up on the table. Consequently, 'Lay Down Misere' is Australian gambling slang for a "dead cert"; a predicted easy victory."
- Johnny Worthington
Is that a bridge thing, Johnny?

This should be a good one, from the folks at Sobel Media. Gene Wolfe, who was deemed "our Melville" by LeGuin. :-)
- Christopher A Carr
Not sure I really have a favorite. Top of my list: Malcom Lowry (Under the Volcano), Hesse (The Glass Bead Game), Salman Rushdie (The Moor's Last Sigh, Midnight's Children), Gene Wolfe (The Book of the New Sun), and perhaps Pynchon, especially for Gravity's Rainbow.
- Christopher A Carr
Dan Simmons ... and a lot of others, it's hard to say !

naughty by nature was on the radio this morning. now i am longing to hear some early-to-mid 1990s northeast hip hop. lost boyz, black moon, heltah skeltah, mobb deep, smiff-n-wessun before a lawsuit made them the cocoa brovaz. *lawdy*

What was that one LB song about being in love with 2 women? That was a hot joint.

"Roezer, I really appreciate the feedback. I will take that fact into consideration. Are you using the extensions in Chrome? What about in Firefox?"
- Damond Nollan
I had to make the switch. I loved Firefox but it became so unstable
- Bryan R. Adams
Bryan, I understand. What do you think about Chrome so far?
- Damond Nollan
Now that they have extensions, it is pretty good. I wonder if too many extensions equal instability? Firefox was great, but I had a ton of extensions. And it just stopped working properly.
- Bryan R. Adams
That's really my concern. I think without all the extensions, Firefox does a good job of being nimble and secure. Well, it was dramatically better than IE, which is why I switched. When I heard my colleagues jump to Chrome, I told myself that Chrome is faster because it doesn't have extensions. Now that it does, I'm interested to find how effective and efficient it will be. As a big fan of Google, I want to see them succeed, but I also have my favorites. Right now, Firefox treats me right.
- Damond Nollan
I got a few Google Wave invites left, leave your email address in the comment secion and I will send them out until I run out. I wanna thank Mo Riza (modomatic) for hooking me up with an invite last month. Since I’m in the holiday spirit, I want to give and (gasp!) pay it forward. [...]

In fairness to the FBB, I've never seen an episode, but I have seen two ads where the white guy is rapping and it made me want to put my foot through my TV.
- Admiral Anika
I think I've heard of CD, but like...in a magazine or something.
- Derrick
Okay, I'm dying that you guys have never seen California Dreams. That's like...WOW! Everyone I know watched the show. It was like Sat. morning Friends...uh, with music and worse acting. =)
- Admiral Anika
CD was like, Saved By The Bell but worse, right?
- Andrew C
yeah, I don't know who any of these people are, but I'm guessing Zak and Slater would kick all their asses at the same time.
- Michael W. May
At my last job, there was 3 people who hadn't watched the show, but they were forgiven because they were much older than. Then this new girl came in and she didn't get the office-wide California Dreams references and people wondered if she was from another country or didn't have TV as a kid.
- Admiral Anika
I've never seen CD. To be honest, all of the Engel oeuvre runs together in my head, except for SBTB, I guess. And I've never even heard of FBB till now.
- Andrew C
California Dreams used to come on either before or after SBTB. But my favourite Peter Engel show was City Guys.
- cecily
oh, city guys!! damn. had forgotten about that.
- pea
I remember CD. Glad I am not the only one. Made it 10 seconds into FBB video on that site.
- Amber, Random Time Lord
Oh man. I remember City Guys, but I never watched it. I just made a run to the gas station and asked the cashiers if they remembered California Dreams. The guy started singing the theme song! The girl is too young.
- Admiral Anika
I finally saw The Fresh Beat Band this morning. They are playing it on Nickelodeon. And it is bad. Real bad.
- Michelle Martinez
Didn't it make you want to kick your TV? I've never seen the show, but the way-too-long ads/songs they play on the OnDemand shows....HULK SMASH!
- Admiral Anika
The JumpArounds. I am convinced that there is some sort of subliminal broadcast going on during this show. My daughter goes into a zombie-stare-like trance while this show is on. The ads for this show before the delay in releasing the show and then the infamous name change almost drove me to suicide. Thankfully, here its not on at primetime so we never really gets to see it. I want to knock that kid 'Twist' out. But ultimately its not their fault, we can thank nick jr. for that.
- Carlos Ayala
Oh my god. I used to watch California Dreams. I was hopelessly addicted to all those crap teen shows back in the day. (ask me about the fact that I actually own the one album put out by The Guys Next Door. ASK ME, I DARE YOU) And I think CD would win in a fight any day because all the characters were played by people in their 20's.
- tinypants - Hagitha of FF
Wait, Carlos...they're no longer FBB? EDIT: The ad that just came on at the end of Backyardigans on the episode recorded on Monday called them FBB.
- Admiral Anika
They were first called The Jump Arounds.
- Carlos Ayala
OHHH! That makes more sense. Didn't think about it that way.
- Admiral Anika
Thanks MySpace, for coming in the middle of the night and buying Imeem and disappearing all of the audio that many of us embed on our blogs. We worked hard to make that happen and in one fell swoop.. ...

"Hey Amani, I dabble with all three. Inbox2 has a lot of potential. Gist is a different animal than the other two, I use that everyday for CRM and watching. Inbox2 and Threadsy makes me participate more. Threadsy seems to do things to my browsers, no matter if I’m on Firefox or Chrome, I get slowed down quite a bit. But if Threadsy let you add a signature to your email, it would be really dynamite. Nice job, Wayne and congrats on the new gig."
- Bryan R. Adams
It was great to chat with Morgan Haley (who is so so gangsta, we could totally relate... just peep the photo, he had me blur it to protect his identity!). We tried to cast the referees but got distracted. They were total characters. The first guy I pegged as a *Hobbitized* Tommy Lee Jones! What do you guys think?
- Adrian
And yeah... I got swivvy on the wheels. It was sick.
- Adrian
Actually I think I came up with Tommy and Morgan came up with *Hobbitized* but I could be cracked out.
- Adrian
These were taken with the Panasonic FZ28. The place is a nightmare to shoot in as you can see by the photos, but I like the ambiance. I also shot a roll of Tri-X with the Oly OM-1 but that will take me a couple of days to bring to light. Pushed it to 1600 though, and I had no problems getting proper exposures AND fast shutter speeds (steady at 250 with F4... unlike the poor Pannie digicam which was really wheezing at it's low light limits). We'll see how they turn out... it was like the wild west out there.
- Adrian
I called him Asshole Peter Scolari. That dude was such a fucking prick. The pic of me with the kids was right before The Fall.
- Admiral Anika
So not fair on so many levels! You guys have half of the FFers *plus* an actual decent roller rink that's not all ghetto that you can still take your kids to out there in California. Wah. Anyway, nice pics. Looks like you had a great time :)
- Kamilah Gill
Heh, trust me...half the friendfeeders are not in SoCal.
- Alex Scoble
They're at least on the west coast of the US somewhere, though.
- Kamilah Gill
Kamilah, Morgan is the only FFer who came, and while the rink looks good, the people who work there are cracked out. They actually made it unfun for a moment.
- Admiral Anika
Aye, tis true...thar be a great many friendfeeders on the west coast...yarrr.
- Alex Scoble
That photo of you Adrian, did Maria take that?
- Admiral Anika
I invited LA-based FFers, but no one would commit. Hence, why I stopped organizing meetups after the beach one. But it doesn't matter, we had almost 30 people there and it was a blast and a half. All the kids looked after one another and all the parents looked after the kids.
- Admiral Anika
Where in LA is this magical roller rink?
- felicious
Yar, Maria took the photo of me! Don't let the pretty face fool ya,... girl's got skillz.
- Adrian
Looks good and fun. Too bad I didn't get home from work until 10 PM. :( ... I would still be down to do a meetup at the horse track soon. That would be tons of fun.
- Amani
Ah, yes...the free days at Santa Anita are coming up. I was just about to go visit the page to see when.
- Admiral Anika
Looks like a great time! Wish I wasn't so far up the coast or I would have joined in. Looking forward to that home-brewed TMAX roll, Adrian! :-)
- vicster needs a nap
Aww.. should of hopped on Jet Vic and rolled wit!
- Adrian
I would've come if I didn't already have a party I'd committed to! Make it sound like I intentionally never come to anything. Hmph.

Hendricks is pretty good. Are you still warming up your meat with a gas grill or have you learned proper BBQ techniques yet, Alex?
- Bryan R. Adams
my favorite gin is whichever one you're mixing with tonic and putting in front of me. I do like Hendricks though. Hey don't forget that twist of lime!

Today is a day long coming... A day of sadness... A day I want to just lock myself away and hide... but a day I know I can't, that's not what he would have wanted and not what he taught me how to operate... I'm so scared...
If he had a friend like you, I'm thinking that he was a quality man that is now in a much better place. Thoughts and prayers for all that knew and loved him.

So sorry to hear this Johnny, my condolences. :(

Aww, fcuk, man, that's rough. When/if you're ready to talk about it, you know we'll be here, mate. If not, well...., you know we'll be here, mate. :-(

Sorry to hear about it. You obviously held him in high regard. That's not always the case with bosses. Sincere condolences from half-a-world away.

You guys are helping more than you ever will know :)
- Johnny Worthington
I'm so sorry, Johnny. It's great that you cared so much for your boss - or that you worked for someone you cared so much about, looked at another way. But that does make it harder now. {{hugs}}
- Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
No doubt he'd have been pleased to hear you held him in such high regard. Good thoughts during a hard time.

Oh my gosh, Johnny. I just saw this. I am so sorry for your loss. My thoughts are with you, your coworkers, and your boss's friends and family.

Sorry to hear this, Johnny. Sounds like he was also a friend / mentor.

My boss killed himself back in February. Didn't feel the same as you, TBH. Dude was a real PITA to deal with. Condolences anyway, sorry for your loss.
- LANjackal
Hugs to you and your family, Johnny. So sorry for your loss... :-(

Oh, Johnny, I just saw this now. I'm so sorry for this loss. The pain of it helps tell you that it's real; the friendship and the beauty of knowing and caring for someone deeply. My heart goes out to you.

Sounds like a special guy, sorry to hear about the loss, buddy. :(

I watched this in my film club. I really enjoyed it. Green Pastures. One of my fave lines of all time is in this film, "Let the fish fry commence!" I kid you not, that is in the film.
