wow, I wouldn't. It's nice having the internet on my iPhone for when I'm mobile, but it's soooooo crappy. Slow speeds, hard typing on the little keyboard. No cut and paste. No ctl/cmd click to open a link in a new tab while letting you stay on the page you are on.

skeptical. it'd all depend on the way the study was conducted, number of people surveyed, etc. - this stuff is so misleading to have in the market. now, ten companies are going to tell themselves "we need a mobile strategy" and "mobile is where it is" only to find it's truly at least 10 years early and their idea will more than likely fail.

I agree. Love having internet on my iPhone in a pinch, but I often find myself saying, "oh, that's too slow ... I'll check it on my Mac when I get home."

Sometimes that tiny mobile screen just doesn't quite cut it.

All of the above comments are why mobile is early. The vast majority of the consumer market is still using traditional cell phones too. So, not only are the devices not there yet, the internet connectivity/quality not there yet, but the users too. Device agnostic web is a reality, but it's very early.

I accidentally click on links with my iPhone alot. I'll be trying to scroll or reduce or enlarge the screen and I accidentally hit a link and bammm. I hate that. I also hate that my "My Maps" page on Google Maps is virtually impossible to load on an iPhone. One of the biggest reasons I bought one was to be able to check that page when I'm out and about for things that I mark to shoot. Not sure why Google Maps sucks so much on the iPhone.

I like having the net on my 'berry, and the GPS is cool too, and I use GR to pass the time when waiting in lines etc, and read my emails as well, but most work has to be done here at my desk. A cellphone is not a real substitute.

Of course Jason you wouldn't know how slow Apple's 3G is from watching their commercial on CNBC where it blazes through pages lightening quick with totally unrealistic real life speeds. I still don't know why they don't get more crap for those misleading commercials.

"71 percent of respondents acknowledged that they expect to increase their usage of communication services such as obtaining maps and directions, instant messaging, social networking, emailing and reading the news from their mobile device. Growth markets like China and India are leading this adoption at a rapid pace and are proving to be the most open towards mobile internet than the mature markets. " these use cases make sense while mobile

I do at least 50% of my internet consumption on mobile already now. I have 2Mbit broadband on my phone and the mobile is always with me. Of course I am early adopter, but I think we will see this happening in the next 3 to 5 years for the mass market.
- Davide D'Incau
i'll believe this when the people BUY the devices. it seems like one of those surveys that doesnt reflect real behaviors

Mass market is only just beginning to cut their teeth on the full functionality of the web. It'll be a loooong time people. Mark my words.

It doesn't mean every grandma is surfing Facebook on a smart phone by tomorrow. It means there will be a massive increase in mainstream use by the time the economy stabilizes 12-24 months out, and really takes off 36 months from now. In business, that's next week.
