Rubbish installed apps fine just stop putting 50 apps on the phone - Nick Brennan
Evidence is mounting that Apple needs to fix it so that iPhoners can install apps directly on their phones w/o risking bricking. - MiɳiMagɘ (Sexy Scimitar)
Is that only with 3G Leo? I am using a jailbroken 1st gen with firmware 2.0 and I am installing many apps directly from the App Store on the phone. No problem as of now. - Dominic Tremblay
This has been my experience as well Leo - Neil Bakker

This mirrors the experience we had at the ApplePhoneShow too. There is certainly a link to some extent for at least some users. - ScottBourne
Oddly, my iPhone says there are 4 updates available and my iTunes says I'm up to date - even after syncing. - Renee Pie
I haven't had any issues so far over the air using 3G. Might be specific to a firmware or model type? - James Tenniswood
I've only installed apps via appstore on the iphone and have yet to use iTunes and haven't had a single bricking issue. I've probably installed 50+ apps and god knows how many updates - Grant Gochnauer
Another reason not to buy an iPhone...I'll stick with Windows Mobile phones like my Q9H, it ain't perfect but it works. - David Ward
So much for doing it all on the mobile. Hope everyone is enjoying their public beta release - Jonathan Greene
Only use Apple stuff on Apple devices. Now, what Microsoft is trying for decades, Apple has archived. And the customers are even welcome it. LOL. Reminds me of Dilbert :). - Ryo

Glad I activated my first gen iPhone this AM. Took me over an hour with the server issues, but I got it done. It looks like they pulled the new firmware for first-gen users for now. Anyone else not able to update their first gen phone anymore? - Sujal Shah
It's funny. I felt guilty for downloading the firmware before it was officially released, and I've got a working 1st-gen iPhone. :P - l0ckergn0me
I feel bad for people. I'm currently looking at a working 3G iPhone and watching it do it's thing. - Candace Holly

I was a beta tester for 2.0 and I foolishly decided to upgrade this morning after Apple sent me an email saying I need to update to the final release. Now, after 3 plus hours, I'm finally activated and back in business!! Apple, you can play dirty pool at times, but I still love ya!! - Nathan Finley
wish apple products came with built in popularity/overload sensors so you dont get screwed on days like today.. like i wish itunes told me this morning "hey ya know there 345,452 people accessing the same file you want right now... lets wait awhile.. i'll play a song for ya.." - Dan Rockwell

Maybe the delays will slow down all the hyped up messages :) - Adrian Nadeau
leave it to AT&T to screw things up. Should have stayed with what worked. Were there really enough hackers to put everyone else through this pain? - David Jacobs
Agreed. I'm waiting. iPhones are like Doritos. They'll make more. - William Beem
I'm waiting until next weekend before I try to get one. Looking forward to it though. - Paul Wade
i was going to go for it until i was #180 at the walnut creek, ca apple store - Morgan
well the uk is in the same boat. Got the phone no activation though. At least the wifi works. - h1ro
My iPhone isn't a brick anymore, but it's still not able to complete at the iTunes Store. - William Beem
I really think apple gave int ATT on the activations so the would have enough rope to hang themselves. What better way to walk into the next negotiations then with," we did it your way the last time and look how you fudged it." - aka Taylor
thanks for posting this - i was weakly considering getting one before work but based on the length of that line... after work it is :) - Jason Kaneshiro
Oddly enough, I can't find any information on the lines in the Puget Sound area except that there are supposedly 100-200 at the Apple store in Lynnwood. - Akiva Moskovitz
So are these people buying a phone with a new line of service or replacing their old iPhone? If the latter, how much will that cost? Are they able to sell back their old iPhone to AT&T? - Patrick Binder
I just hope these people know they are being duped by the "new low price for the phone" and the costs are being more than made up for on the backend with a more costly service plan... - Patrick Binder
Patrick - The few people I know personally (among the many who were there) were replacing the old. - Gerald Buckley
“Would be nice to have a link back to the Digg permalink so that I can Digg the stories I see coming in here. Anyone have the contact info for the folks at friendfeed?”
i'd prefer to see both if anything - by putting the digg link and nothing else, it's just driving more traffic to digg and causing yet another middleman in getting to the source content - most digg friendly sites have a link to digg, wouldn't it make more sense to READ/VIEW/WATCH the content before digging it? - Allen Stern
I've been wondering about this, too. Makes no sense. - ♫ Rahsheen™
Yes, both would be ideal. Something like: [Story Title (direct link)] - [Digg This (digg permalink)] - Kevin Rose
make it happen! and please ask them to let us group friends while you're at it. :) - Frankie Warren
Yap I miss that funktion, too ;) Mail is here : mailto:feedback@friendfeed.com - Martin Gommel
let's make a deal then: how about direct links as well in the Digg RSS feeds? - Jared Lynem
I'd love to see a link to the original story, and a little digg button next to it. - Orli Yakuel
Hey Kevin, thanks for the feedback. Noted! Have any contact info for the folks at Digg? ;-) - Kevin Fox
orli - all that would do is make the digg armies get into full effect - already people digg stories without reading them - that would just amplify that - let people read/watch/view the content then decide if it's digg worthy. - Allen Stern
Yeah, I don't think FF needs such specific functionality. A link back to digg is completely reasonable. - felix
I'd like to a link back to Digg too, want to see the comments. - Mack D. Male
sounds like a better idea for a greasemonkey script, rather than something baked into ff - Trent Olson
Allen, why would I digg something without seeing it first? even if I'll have the link to digg here, I'll still open the story I'm digging... but it's just doesn't make sense to see here what people dugg without any connection to digg the site. (and what if the story link don't have any digg button on the page? are you expecting me to search the story on digg now?) - Orli Yakuel
I second Kevin's suggestion [Story Title (direct link)] - [Digg This (digg permalink)] - Jim Bergman
Orli - if a digg button is placed on ff - people will friend digg without ever seeing the story - i am ok with both links - tho would still prefer people read the content first -otherwise a few select people will get even more benefits then they do today - Allen Stern
ie "When you post that somone diggs a story here on FF we dont get the traffic, how can we fix that" - sean percival
@sean, honestly I could care less about the traffic, I'm just trying to make it easier for Digg users to promote/share the content they care about. The main story title would still link directly to the source. - Kevin Rose
I see someone Dugg something on FriendFeed. I go read it. I want to Digg it. They don't even have a Digg badge. What Now? - ♫ Rahsheen™
It would be nice if the "like" feature would just equate to a digg and be the connection. - Andrea Baker
@sean I don't think Digg needs any more traffic. :o) No Digg button or anything, just a permalink to the page on Digg. It would be nice so we could Digg a story so my friends can see it instead of just me just "liking" it in someone else's stream. - Paul Reynolds
In addition I would love to have an ability to digg from friendfeed directly. - Stepan Mazurov
@Andrea - i like that idea a lot. it'd also be interesting if the votes in all these rating systems were tied together so a Digg, an upvote on reddit and a like on FF all went towards one centralized vote count. Then the different sites could compete with each other based on how they aggregated and displayed the links according to their different algorithms. - mike
Kevin: He is the creator of Gmail. : p http://mailhide.recaptcha.net/... ; ) He heard you, but his mail like in the link strongly! ; ) (loves from Turkey, read webrazzi.com more ; )) - Erhan Erdogan
I really don't think 2 way integration is the answer. Sometimes I just want to like something in somebody's stream and that's it. Really guys, a permalink would be great. - Paul Reynolds
A simple link to the article on digg is all I'm looking for. Not Digg'ing directly from FF and certainly not linking "Like" to "Digg" somehow. - ♫ Rahsheen™
I'd like a link to Digg. I'd tab open both the page and the digg page so I could review and then digg it (or perhaps not). I also want FriendFeed to differentiate from "digging" a story and "adding" a story if possible. - Ben Parr
i'm sure you can make it happen.. I still would like to see it be an option, but i don't know if that will happen. Built in diggs would be nice... right next to like :) - Tim Hoeck
Am I the only one who sees Friend Feed's choice to not link to digg as intentional? From a business standpoint, it makes sense for FF to make "Like"ing an article easier than digging the article. As for actually digging, the Smart Digg Button Firefox plugin helps fine enough for me. - Paul Arrington
Allen, hmm, now i see what you mean. I meant that the digg button will take you to digg first, like kevin said. I gusse I wasn't clear enough.. :-/ - Orli Yakuel
Soon there will also be requests to have a "Del.icio.us" button, "Stumbleupon" button etc.. - Winston Teo
hey kevin socbut.com is working on this feature.. not be implemented in the next few days. digg to socbut.com and be able to digg from socbut.com and back to digg. - Jay Martinez
“My son is teaching World of Warcraft to Maryam. She finally turns to him and says "this is way too complicated." She says she's going back to PacMan and Zuma. Heh.”

Did you know that Pac-Man was originally called "Puck Man" in Japan? It was renamed for US markets to avoid obvious abuse of the first letter... - Jemm
I sympathize with your wife. I'm horrible at most video and computer games. which is why I like the Wii. My 3 year old can play it. And so can I. - adam christensen

My younger brother and I use WoW to keep in touch. We've tried multiple times to teach our Mom how to play it. She finally threw up her hands and gave up. However, I do have her playing the Wii a bit. - Candace Holly
Robert, please don't let your son play MMOs. I wish my dad had never let me start. - Andy DeSoto
@Vincent, Sounds impossible... They have obviously left out the part where you have to put in a significant amount of energy from some other source to get the hydrogen out of the water to use to power the car. Generating H2 via hydrolysis is very energy inefficient. It would make much more sense to use the 'other' energy source to power the car directly. - Jeff P. Henderson
Jeff: You might be right, I don't know. It's not something I know much about. Here's their website if you want to check it out: http://genepax.co.jp/en/ - Vincent X
We had a note on this (in the Daily Five) today on EcoTech Daily. It looks like Engadget is wrong: the 490 or so electric minis will likely be lease-only, a way for BMW to meet California's new ZEV mandates. The company hasn't announced anything about specs or price yet. - Chris Baskind
I am actually amazed on how fast this is coming, E-Minis for everyone! - Rey Ramos
Yeah, electric cars are coming fast, fast, fast. 2010 is the tipping point. - Chris Baskind
sigh - why do all of these things take so long and seem so out of reach for one reason or another? - edythe
@edythe: 'Cause we don't want these fancy new electric cars catching on fire? ;-) - Chris Baskind
Watch oil prices drop and Gas too then the demand for Electric will wane...then the prices climb again...and we are in the same boat. - Kreg Steppe
Nothing there that I can't get back quickly me thinks... oh, the life of early adopters... I've lost more data and rebuilt more machines than I can count... - Kevin C. Tofel
I'm looking forward to getting an iphone later this year (when my current contract runs out) purely because of the app store. It's going to be interesting to see which applications survive the initial shake-out. - Jonathan Beckett
@Federico hai aggiornato iTunes alla 7.7? Entra nello store e cerca "App" - Stefano Mainardi

@Frederico not to crazy sony does the same thing with there ebook reader - Jay Martinez
Current eReader titles / libraries will work with the eReader app. I have five years worth of titles that I've used on Windows / Windows Mobile. They will ALL work with the iPhone app. ;) - Kevin C. Tofel
I am stoked to find eReader in there. May speed up my iPhone purchase. :) - James Kendrick
really? How you upload them? Does it read even pdf books? - Federico Fasce
via twhirl
@Frederico: your library is stored on the Fictionwise server at all times, so you can just download titles you've already purchased. The app will likely have the eReader store so you can browse, buy and DL new titles. That's how it works on WinMo, so I suspect it should generally be the same. - Kevin C. Tofel
Kevin, how do we get (existing, purchased) ebooks on to the device though? Any idea? - John Samuelson
@John, I suspect the eReader app will let you download from your library on the Fictionwise server directly. You can do that on WinMo. I just got confirmation that we have a call with the owner of Fictionwise today so I'll have more info to share. :) - Kevin C. Tofel
@JA Castillo I saw a Twit that said software updater may not recognize the need for the new version if you're running a beta of iTunes. - RyanEs
@RyanEs - no beta...all the more confusing if what you say is true. - JA Castillo
@Kevin thanks. Totally wireless eReader would be awesome. - John Samuelson
Is the App Store only visible to those with iPhones or a Touch? I have updated to 7.7 and there is no link to the app store that I can see. - JA Castillo
@ja castillo u can enable applications from the preferences menu, then click get more applications to see the store. - Jay Martinez
@JA - go to prefs, General, make sure Applications is ticked. - John Samuelson
if you go to the site and look beneth the graph you see that the graph is misleading. Twitter = 1,819,237, FF = 407,182. Also FF is newer and thus generating more "New" users and it is primarily web based (where most people use a client for Twitter) and thus FF, naturally, generated more "hits" - Freemor
