“Ok, as much as I *hate* linking to Valleywag, if in fact they have the legitimate Stewart Butterfield resignation, it's pure gold. http://valleywag.com/5017424/s...”
He should only blame himself for selling out to Yahoo in the first place. - TranceMist
The letter was brilliant, the comments were idiotic. I think the comments on Digg have more value that the comments to a Valleywag post. - Tac Anderson
@Trancemist Yeah, I'm sure he's blaming himself. All the way to the bank, via his penthouse apartment, no doubt. - Ian Betteridge
selling to Yahoo was the right thing to do. There are few things in life more important than personal financial freedom. But Yahoo *could* have used Flickr to be the springboard to truly dominate social search and they bungled that. Could have bought digg, could have tied it all together. With Yahoo's bungling social search, FF remains the most viable candidate to succeed at social search here and now today. - Thomas Hawk
this comment will show both on friendfeed and on twitter - unless you see it frist on twitter, in which case it will also be on friendfeed - martin english
I comment here because I don't get abused for answering Tweets here. - Robert Scoble
I also comment here because the answers are threaded. I also comment here because I can permalink to a cluster of comments about a single Tweet. I also comment here because people can "hide" this conversation if they don't like it. - Robert Scoble
oh dude, I see this being a blog post by morning! :) - Paula Hawk
I didn't know you could comment on friendfeed. - Jim Vrckovski
FriendFeed works, Twitter is down all the time. Twitter is a platform, FriendFeed utilizes this platform - for me, in the most useful way I've seen so far. (It's web-based, it allows conversations.) - sebmos
I don't put most things on both FriendFeed and Twitter. Why? I keep getting told I'm too noisy on Twitter so I'm using FriendFeed to reduce my noise. In fact, I've just told everyone to come over here instead of continuing this conversation on Twitter. Conversations aren't really good on Twitter. What is? Answering the question "what are you doing?" - Robert Scoble
Agreed with Robert. I really like the parallel nature of the Twitter / Friendfeed symbiosis. - Soulhuntre
This definitely looks like it's going to get viral! - Vinodh
Twitter need to make some sort of threaded comments system. - Richard Cunningham
I've thought of a better way to handle replies. Msaleem's original message is number 812534216, so to reply to reply @msaleem:812534216 which would map onto http://twitter.com/msaleem/sta... which should also be backwards compatible. Then clients could track the replies in a thread - Richard Cunningham
@ Richard Cunningham My first impulsive thought is : Threads would destroy twitter - Kamath
because it is another conversation thread that is easier to follow than on twitter and connect to other like minded people. - Rodney Rumford
I would use this more if Twhirl would just give me a sound stating someone replied to me. Also, threads are only one level on FF. Twhirl could technically do the same thing with Twitter - why not? - Jesse Stay via twhirl
Jaiku already has multi-level threaded comments. It's Google's fault that people aren't using it. - Morton Fox
Also, Quotably allows you to thread your replies to any tweet you want. - Morton Fox
You brought this on yourself, you know.... - GerryBot
Twitter is not intended to keep conversations. Let's try to keep what it was born to and then, if the tweet is interesting enough let's move the rest to FF. - Hernan Garcia
I think the biggest poblem is when people are adding comments that add nothing to the situation at all. Or when they are just rambling on and on about the same subject or make REALLY long sentences that clearly show that English is not their main language and that get lost in constructions that are hard to understand and you can clearly see that the commenter did not even take the time to read his own comment to see that it lacks proper structure and grammar. But it's like it's with cliffhangers, they are - Ruud van Wijngaarden
So sick of ppl telling me where to leave my comments. I'm sorry, but I'll comment anywhere I damn well please. Period. Get over it. - Shey
I agree with Shey. Recently, a friend of mine deleted his FriendFeed account specifically to stop me from replying to his stuff from here. - Akiva Moskovitz
See the 'choice' as a plus. It just takes a few seconds to come over here and look? - Charlie Anzman
Because we can't comment on them within twitter. I like the whole idea of comments. I wish I would recieve more comments on my friendfeed! - Cade Brown
When someone comments on Friendfeed (in lieu of Twitter), it should be a form of a compliment, showing that you have a higher level of exposure. - Zak K.
Hmm, both 7.9 and 8 have a problem displaying new tweets after a few minutes. scrolling down then up makes them magically appear... - Rick Mahn via twhirl
@Rick Mahn Noticing the same and it's irritating me - Corvida via twhirl
its good, still needs filters to remove double tweets from people in friendfeed and twitter, and I should be able to see all the comments without needing the browser. Isn't that the point of a desktop app? no browser usage? - BCK via twhirl
Using Twhirl Version 0.8... It's great! The only thing I would like more is the ability to use one feed which would push FriendFeed and Twitter into the same stream and allow me to post to both from the same stream! - Dustin Mooney via twhirl
Good stuff - nice addition! I would love to have it in a single integrated window with some nice filtering, but the addition of FF is a nice start. - Kevin Johnson
Can I suggest to make it an option to combine the windows? I would want the feedfriend to be separate to my twitter - I also want to be able to decide to have one open and one closed. Like you can now for different twitter accounts. Sure make it an option to do so but also not to. - Dave Gray
Working well most of the time. The friend feed window sometimes locks up when I try to navigate between friends and any of the other view buttons. OS X 10.5 Intel. Anyone else have those problems? - Jeremy Kunz via twhirl
Yeah, seems that there must be a fair load on the servers - Dave Gray via twhirl
I like Alert Thingy's UI better but if twhirl goes single-window, it'll be hard to beat. - Akiva Moskovitz via twhirl
I must say, I do prefer Alert Thingy (still). It looks prettier and i like that it expands comments in its own window instead of going to the FF site like twhirl. If I wanted that, I'd be using the site not twhirl. Still, the first client to integrate twitter/FF into one stream, and eliminate duplicate tweets will get my vote - David Adam via twhirl
If you follow too many Twitters and FriendFeeds, there is a need to have two windows to sort out everything. How about having the option to use one or two windows. Two windows works for me. - Freddie Avalos via twhirl
Interesting point Freddie makes. Perhaps remove the Twitter messages from FF if you allow merged Windows. That way you only see the Twitter messages once. - Richard Giles via twhirl
Perhaps the combined window could be an option. I don't know which I would prefer. Right now, I think I like the two windows. But, as others have said, it will be great when we are able to filter out Twitter messages so they don't show up on FriendFeed window as well as the Twitter window. - Gregory Pittman via twhirl
Loic, please get Twhirl to open links in a new tab, not a new window. Skype can do it. - Mick Liubinskas
Why does Twhirl insist on using IE instead of my default browser (Flock)? is it only me? gngngngn - Kamath via twhirl
Thanks for the release! I wish it has "per web service" filtering just like MySocial 24x7. That would make the thing much more useful.. :) - Leon Ho
Not sure if this is the best place to comment about this, but on MacOSX 10.5.2, there's some weird kerning issues in the FF comment box, specifically with the 'w' eg where is that space coming from - http://skitch.com/jordanbrock/... - Jordan Brock via twhirl
would also be great to collapse a FF notification, because this particular one looks like it is going to consume the top of my FF window for a while, and I'd like to see others :) - Richard Giles via twhirl
So what's it gonna be, thwirl or alert thingy? both have pretty much the same features now I guess.. - Leo Koivulehto via Alert Thingy
Hidden entries integration keeps me with Alert Thingy for the moument. I'll also add my voice to having the option to combine windows, auto removing the dupes, and expanding comments in the client. - Tony Miller via Alert Thingy
And I really hope one or the other lets you sort by service soon. - Tony Miller via Alert Thingy
Great ! I'd like to filter some services... You know like Twitter that appears twice (Twitter and FriendFeed window)... - Sanji (Jean-Daniel S.) via twhirl
Also, both clients are missing an in client player for the things like YouTube favorites and Seesmic posts. Come to think of it, the only reason I end up keeing either client running is for the desktop notifications. Other than that the Friendfeed website itself is still a much better experience. But I guess its all still new and will be sorted out over time. - Tony Miller
Not a lot of luck getting this to work. Comes up fine but doesn't update the screen, unable to open anything. - 2WheelTech
Whats funny is that this post still has legs after 36 hours - Christian Burns
What's funny is that people say they saw it in friend feed with the friendfeed commenting which can only be done in friend feed. I guess it's at least a clear vote. - Mick Liubinskas
in google reader. pretty cool feature to see which post my friends commented on. and the number of clicks to get to the comment via a friend from the feedreader is still to high. - Max Hartmann
Almost always on Hahlo, because I read Twitters alot through my ipod Touch. - Lisa Lee
I could say FF - but only because it hit my screen a bit earlier than looking through the twitter stream and because I had forgotten to unsub your twitter stream in FF as I follow you on Twitter. Same with links - I do click them where I see them first, but that is not indicative of a patter. [only reason to answer here? more than 140 chars ...] - Nicole Simon
