This is the gift every parent wants: a morning to sleep in. It was delicious. Hope you are enjoying your morning with your family. Gotta go, the chaos starts soon! :-)

Gang's gone. SLEEP starts now. Merry Christmas Robert
- Charlie Anzman
Right? I wish him 100 years of good health Robert. It's been some years, but my first Christmas as a dad was spent holding my months old premie, who wasn't supposed to live. He spent that 1st Christmas on my chest; I wouldn't hand him over to anyone, just in case. Now he's 16, 6'1" 201, starting O-tackle and D-ILB on varsity, honor student.

Ed: what a great story! It is the best, isn't it?
- Robert Scoble
I love hearing your excitement Robert. With all the chaos in business, careers, controversies etc, there is a universal understanding of the renewing, consuming joy of an innocent beautiful baby or child. Watching from the outside, you remind me of me :) Very happy for you!
- Ed Shahzade /NextInstinct
They just get better from here on out.
- Scott Pierce
Beautiful. Have a very happy christmas, y'all!
- Frank Koehntopp
What a sweetie! Merry Christmas to you, Maryam, Patrick and Milan. He looks so peaceful. :)

My kids got up at 6 am, I need a nap right now, yet they are still excited.

The Fed will print more money, inflation will go through the roof and the dollar will be further devalued which in turn will cause a drop in the markets.
- Jim McCusker
the fdic is *us* ... the taxpayers ... failure is only a measure of how much political will there is ... our lenders and debt holders will not likely enjoy where our politicians want to spread the pain (inflate our way out versus strengthen the dollar for geo-political reasons) - a quarter's worth

If we have any influence at all, do you think social networking will be a part of that influence? A will of our own?

Wow ... Planning a bank run? Don't like the sound of that
- Nick O'Neill
bank run? no ... but the reality is that there may need to be a way to enable bankruptcy judges to work around the "recent" legislation to adjudicate quickly & effectively (including modifying loan terms & getting rid of obstinate 2nd mortgage holders) ... not a simple situation & yet the thought of a bank run? where will you run to? at 4 bucks a gallon? (even the banking lobbyists are fighting the ads of the airlines) the business of america truly is business

this kind of article always terrifies me. finance is the industry i work in and while it certainly COULD happen (see bear, stearns) it would be most likely to happen only if people start to panic and react in panic (see bear, stearns).
- lisa church
Well, we might have to stop printing money willy-nilly, and tone down the fractional reserve banking. The banks that loan out large percentages of their entrusted money will have to rightly be punished by the market when the people want their money back and they can't pay up. FDIC only encourages and enables irresponsible bankers.
- Gregor Morrill
47 minutes long, rather sobering, it attempts to explain the fundamental question "what is money?" video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-9050474362583451279
- ǝuǝƃnǝ
money is a "medium of exchange" (exceopt at att& t were they want 2 bucks to settle a bill in cash) beteen "abstractions of value" (analog or digital that in excess of expense or cost of production) ... very encouraging ... welcome to bandwidth as currency ...
- Scott Moskowitz

@paul Who "they"? Who exactly can always print more money? I encourage you to watch "Money as Debt" movie.
- ǝuǝƃnǝ
nice way to own up to our collective debt - "full faith & credit of the U.S. government" - we are in truly unique times & circumstances of our collective choosing - the dollar may see a further 20-30% drop on an inflate away belief alone ... EQUITY means you work for yourself DEBT means you work for others ... whether high borrowing rates & weak currency & limited credit availability we will *all* pay the price of less than transparent political institutions

champagne is always good. and content.

where is champagne? I guess it's a place to share, you could collect, be aware of what's your "friends" want to make you discover. The risk would be 7000 members I guess! ;-)

I would luv to be a tester & twirl for FF sounds even cooler! You could call it ffwhirl!
- Juliet Easton
I take it Twitter's disabling Jabber and lowering the API limit is going to require rethinking Twhirl a bit... Or did they turn XMPP back on?
- Voyagerfan5761
I do the opposite. Twitter being down makes me depressed, so gotta have the good stuff!
- Robert Scoble
Drink the Dom anyway. It will make the lack of Twitter more enjoyable.
- Sue Murphy
omg twitter .... I read that they are re-writing components 1 at a time
- Emmanuel Pozo
If you look at the new Twitter's Down screen you'll notice that the birds are all flying in different directions. Kind of like how it is at Twitter right about now...

Its just amusing to me that they didn't think about scaling at all.. I mean using rails as a framework ... lame ...

Estancia Cabernet - calms my nerves!

It seems like Twitter spends more time making cute graphics than keeping the system online...or is that just me.
- Sue Murphy
Robert: They were def not drinking , probably smoking something ... but 5.4m funding common now ... that has to buy you some intelligence .. no ?
- Emmanuel Pozo
LOL sue ... they are actually rewriting each 1 of their components from scratch ..

Obviously ;) Toasts with a nice D'arenberg Dead Arm...
- Jono Haysom
Yeah but twitter didnt really have downtime issues either until everyone started joining en mass over the last 4-5 months or so. It will be interesting to see if Friendfeed can handle the load...
- Andrew Cafourek
You bet! FriendFeed just got interesting again thanks to you! :-)

FriendFeed has never gone down. Or even gotten slow. It's like the guys who started it worked at Google or something. Oh, wait, that's right, they did.
- Robert Scoble
@Scolbe: Watch it Robert, or you're going to jinx it.
- David Bisset
Twitter out here, also. Good thing, because I have to get some work done. Hoohoo.
- Cesar Cardoso
I didn't know about this until I saw this message. I tried going to m.twitter.com on my phone and got a 500 Internal Server Error. Didn't even get a birdie.

@Scoble do you want Jaiku invitation? it is more reliable than twitter and some time ago moved to Google's infra...
- A.T.
silpol I've been on Jaiku since the first days. I like FriendFeed a lot better.
- Robert Scoble
Robert, I'd love to see a demo of how you use FriendFeed - I keep trying to move over but just can't figure out a productive way to use it.
- Jesse Stay
@Scoble i wish FF gets sms mechanism for push one day, as twitter or jaiku
- A.T.
Jesse, I'm writing a blog post right now about one aspect: liking and commenting.
- Robert Scoble
I'm excited to see it - I'd also love to see how you browse your feeds. When do you use Twitter vs. Friendfeed, Reader, etc.?
- Jesse Stay
Jesse: I don't have a set routine. I watch FriendFeed the most, though. I also use Google Reader quite often, watch Twitter on either Twhirl or Google Talk or Tweetscan (not to mention FriendFeed), and still look at TechMeme too. I just posted the thing about listening on FriendFeed on my blog at http://scobleizer.com
- Robert Scoble
I've started watching both friendfeed and socialthing - playing with both trying to work out which best suits my needs. It is quite possible that both will, but it also means seeing duplication.
- Mick Adams
i watched frienfeed, socialthing, and twhirl and kept refreshing twitter. all this after working 12 hours. maybe i have a problem.
- lisa church
probably because tourist things wouldn't have appealed to you, you lived there what's unique about it?

I went to fisherman's wharf with the kids last week: don't miss the submarine visit before going to Alcatraz: really cool!
