Minefield is very fast, but Chrome still feels and sometimes is actually faster. I just clocked the startup time on the same hardware and OS and Google's browser load in under a second and a half. Mozilla's nightly builds need three seconds, down from the five of Firefox 3.5.6.

Startup time is something they're still putting a lot of work into, but people focusing on that confuses me: I only ever start up my browser at boot. Otherwise, I've been hard pressed to see a lot of practical / anecdotal speed difference between Minefield and Chrome on Mac over the past month. http://autonome.wordpress.com/2009...

True. As I wrote in italian it's a matter of seconds and I'm more interested in how it renders html and javascript, how usable and good is the ui, how low are its resources and how can it be extended.

Startup time is important, because it is behavior-shaping. In otherwords, I only intentionally start my browser at boot, but I would be more apt to restarting it, or closing it, or even switching amongst browsers if it was very fast. Right now I am ok with pulling up Chrome if I wanna look at Google Maps, because it's quick to load, but the thought of quickly pulling up Minefield is... a bit of a joke at the moment.

Dave: that's probably why I usually have and keep Safari and Firefox running as long as I can but happily launch and close Chrome/Chromium to test stuff.
