This is a very nice review. Especially the part that implies I drink alone in a good way. It's not creepy when you've got buffalo sauce in your beard, dammit!

Robert: have you tried the new FF iphone app that was released today (BuddyFeed)? Posting from it right now. So far I'm impressed.
- Kevin Whalen
from BuddyFeed
TwitterFon's just as good-- and free!
- Andy DeSoto
Andy: Was just going to ask about the advantages over TwitterFon, easily my favorite Twitter app and free of charge.
- Lon Harris
from twhirl
Lon, at this point I wouldn't recommend going with Tweetie-- you can't get simpler or more effective than Fon at this point, they're pretty similar!
- Andy DeSoto
I switched a month ago to Tweetie from Fon and I can't really tell a difference...
- Jeff
@Kevin - Thanks for the heads-up. Yeah, BuddyFeed looks pretty cool so far. I think I might almost like it better than the web interface. At least for reading if not typing. (posting from it now)
- Grey Drane
from BuddyFeed
Grey: Yeah I'm kind of liking it so far too. I do find it easier to read just the posts and drill in for comments if I choose to.
- Kevin Whalen
from BuddyFeed
Posting images and the safari bookmarklet for posting links are also great features.
- Kevin Whalen
from BuddyFeed
I like Tweetie alot. BuddyFeed looks good but not sure I want to spend the dollar on it. The App Store feedback is not too promising.
- Altan Khendup
If you do try Tweetie, make sure you try to "Simple" theme. You change Tweetie's settings in the iPhone Settings app, not in Tweetie.
- Bwana ☠
I was not happy when the upgrade took away the iChat like balloons... glad I can put them back... easier to read but more scrolling.
- Brian Roy
You're late? Congrats! When's the baby due?
- shelisrael1
Really? I like Tweetsville, maybe I should switch
- Sarah Perez
@Kevin: Exactly. Haven't tried the bookmarklet, though. Is it better than the one FF provides?
- Grey Drane
from BuddyFeed
Grey: Bookmarklet will launch the app and let you post a comment with the link
- Kevin Whalen
from BuddyFeed
@Kevin: Interesting. I'll give it a try.
- Grey Drane
I LOVE Tweetie. Besides the very full functionality (you can do just about everything Twitter lets you do in this app), it's GORGEOUS, and it's FAST. This is the Twitter app that Apple would have written. And it keeps getting better. Loren Brichter keeps adding features and polish. Make sure to get the latest 1.2 update (came out today), and check out the Popularity EnhancEr (PEE) page on his site for a laugh. :-)
- Josh Bancroft
I saw a very young James Taylor make his solo debut at the Troubadour in LA in 1969. Does that count as a concert? I think it was a pretty decent first live music experience. :)
- Kevin Gamble
George Jones and he showed up, but my mom insisted that I be home by 10pm, so I only got to see a little of his performance. It must have been somewhere between 93 and 95. My first non country music was Live in 1995.
- Heather Solos
Simple Minds; though, with my family I saw many a country and bluegrass concert, Simple Minds was the first I bought tickets for and drove to myself.
- Michael W. May
My first proper concert was going to Weezer at the Astoria when I was 16. Cast and Coast were supporting. The gig was rescheduled from a few weeks earlier, can't remember why though
- Rory
Kiss, 1978 or so, in Huntington, WV....I was in 8th grade and my mother took me, one of my classmates, my younger brother (5th grader I think), and his friend.
- Craig Eddy
Jodeci and MC Hammer. My mom took us, and she was mortified when she saw them grindin on the floor.
- Shevonne
Ozzy Osbourne "No More Tours" Tour outside Springfield, MO.

Marillion, at the "Olympia" (not the classic French house for concerts in Paris of course), in 1992. Yes, I was 14, and in theory I couldn't be there, because I was with a friend with the same age :D I probably was in some other concert with my parents before, but I don't really remember of it.
- Bibi
truly it was Ladysmith Black Mambazo - 5th grade... but my first rock concert was Janet Jackson during the janet. era.
- JoEllen
Meat Loaf and bunch of other bands at an outdoor (in a park type thing) show. Girl I brought (first date) was not impressed when we got right up close to the stage and ML was huge and sweaty and apparently his spit was flying :(
- Patrick Jordan
They Might Be Giants - awesome concert, led to a college concert addiction.
- Steve C
New Kids On The Block in '89. The Fat Boys opened up for them. KILLER SHOW.
- Brad Williamson
I saw John Denver in the mid 1970s. I think that was my first concert of a name pop artist.
- Ontario Emperor
Van Halen's "1984" is the first concert that I bought a ticket and attended. I went to plenty of concerts with my folks prior.
- Mathew A. Koeneker
My first pop concert was Lionel Ritchie. His opening act? Some woman called Tina Turner trying to make a comeback. I'd never heard of her before that concert..
- Kenton
Honestly, Cheap Trick at Six Flags in Eureka, MO (suburb of St. Louis). The first one I enjoyed was U2 at the St. Louis Arena in '87 (Joshua Tree tour)
- cjmart
Bryan Adams "Waking Up The Neighbors Tour" - 1992
- Jared B. Luther
My first concert was The Statler Bros. They were great. I was quite young then. Since then, I have probabaly seen hundreds of different acts in concert and I am only 21. Concerts FTW!
- pcnerd37
alice cooper killer, and he lost the snake...
- maidel
The Wallflowers at the Illinois State Fair, 1997ish
- Kirk Kittell
Duran Duran on the Seven and the Ragged Tiger tour at the Gamecock arena, Columbia, South Carolina in.... 1984?
- Luke Robinson
the first i went to on my own or the first with the family or school?
- Dave Winer
Kool and the Gang on their 'Celebration' tour. With my older brother and 2 girls from church. I was 12. My first concert with just me and a friend was Missing Persons on their 'Spring Session M' tour. I've seen a bunch of shows since them, some rocked, some sucked. But they were all enjoyable.
- Morgan Haley
Starship. Rushed the stage and stood on front row chairs. Couldn't remember my home phone number afterwards thnx to second hand pot smoke.
- Josh Haley
I'm pretty sure it was KISS. If not KISS, it was Motley Crue
- Alan Simpson
Blood, Sweat & Tears - I was 4, and we had front row seats.
- Jennifer Dittrich
Embarrassing because it was so recent. Snow Patrol, Austin, spring 2008. I was a sheltered child. I'm trying to make up for lost time, really I am!
- Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
My first concert was those guys that sang that song "I wanna be a Cowboy and you can be my cow girl..." The concert didn't matter to me (can't even remember the band's name)... it was getting to go to the big city (Spokane, WA) with my girlfriends. After that, I moved to Orange County and saw Depeche Mode at the Colliseum, David Bowie, U2, and one of those concerts was opened by Siouxsie and the Banshees. So I guess I made up for my first concert experience.
- Trish Haley
Somehow I won tickets to see Dizzy Gilespie at the Toledo Masonic Auditorium. A friend had to drive me because I was only 15. The first concert I paid for myself was Stevie Ray Vaughan at the Ft. Wayne Coliseum.
- Tödd Nëmët
May 10th 1985 - Julian Lennon - Honolulu Hawaii. Next was Jefferson Starship/Airplane (what ever they were calling them selves at the time). The 1st tickets that I ever bought though were for Club Nouveau and Yellowman.
- Miranda
Mine was Joe Walsh at Pine Knob in MI, around 1980. David Lindley opened with stuff from El-Rayo X. Awesome show! @BrianNorwood : I was at that show! Was just talking about that concert the other night with another friend that was there with us.
- ɐ ɯıʞ sıɹɥɔ
First "Big" concert was Guns and Roses in Buenos Aires (92').
- Martin Añazco
The Waitresses at some small venue in Pasadena I think...

The ups and downs of a couple's marriage (I think). I love Kate Winslet and watch all her movies. =)
- Shevonne
I saw the trailer and afterwards whispered to my companion, "I think they need some black friends."
- Derrick
Plot is kind of similar to "American Beauty": A couple is enjoying a fairytale suburban life in the early '60s before one of them starts to feel suffocated by all the pointless conformity.
- Lon Harris
from twhirl
I'll watch anything Kate Winslet's in -- she's great.
- Thomas Hawk
"Seriously, a memoir? He was on a reality show for a few weeks...Is there that much exciting stuff to write about? "You guys remember that time I wore a faux-hawk? That was awesome." I wonder if James Frey is ghostwriting for him."

Not officially, but the state supreme court recently struck down a Coleman challenge, and it looks like Franken will end up winning by some ridiculously small margin.

I made a similar mistake with an old roommate a couple of days ago because when I comment on Social Median, it also sets that as my Facebook status. I had to hurry and delete it on facebook and flood facebook with other content so that he wouldnt see it.
- pcnerd37
@pcnerd37: you can delete individual items from your status/post/wall history so it doesn't show up... but, of course, flooding facebook with things is also fun

I don't know...sounds like he's making a fair point (though, granted, not in the nicest or most civil way possible). Was there a good reason you streamed the conference on UStream and not Seesmic?
- Lon Harris
from twhirl
Lin: Seesmic does not do live streaming. So how would they do that?
- Robert Scoble
lol - those sound like fighting words to me :)
- David Dundas
from twhirl
Hmm. I think you're argument is with VentureBeat. It would seem CN is taking its cues from Anthony Ha of late: "Still, folks (including myself) were a bit perplexed with the fact that the event organizer, Loic Le Meur, opted to stream the conference (plus or minus the technical difficulties referenced above) using Ustream, rather than via his own video platform Seesmic."
- Richard pancakhaus Walker
Robert: True, but Stern's suggestion doesn't sound half bad to me. Have participants use Seesmic to discuss whatever topics they're presenting. I mean, you could do both, even. I'm just saying, I don't think the point the blog post is making is obviously stupid, and I would like to hear more elaboration on why he wouldn't employ his own service.
- Lon Harris
from twhirl
FYI Richard - I don't take cues from anyone and the VB piece came after mine
- Allen Stern
Lin: have you ever put on a conference for 2,000 people? I have and there is no time to do ANYTHING else. Seesmic has its own issues. Video is not a good place to have conversations. But I am glad Loic paid attention to his conference attendees instead of trying to do some videos.
- Robert Scoble
Robert - <sarcasm> was that with no heat, no internet and no food?</sarcasm> Interesting that you say video isn't a good place for discussion.
- Allen Stern
thanks for the clarification Allen, I did notice you cited his name in the socialmedian post. My bad!
- Richard pancakhaus Walker
Richard - I don't post things to SocialMedian - you might want to check last week's post about that service :)
- Allen Stern
Allen: I had a jacket and had plenty to eat. The conference was in Paris which has plenty of restaurants anyway. I gained weight this week. As to conversations, there is a reason I use FF for those.
- Robert Scoble
I hate how iPhone turns Lon to Lin . Sigh.
- Robert Scoble
This doesn't have a thing to do with performance. We share your sadness, young lady. Head up. We're with you.
- Chris Baskind
Edythe post your resume and share the link with everyone here. Get word out and someone will find a place where you will be a great fit very soon.

I hear the same footsteps. They're getting closer...

Whoa!! that's terrible Edythe. I am so sorry to hear that... wow...I am in shock for you both. Connect with me on LinkedIn http://www.linkedin.com/in... - send me a connection request and I'll immediately accept it. Also, send me your resume link (can be a google doc if you don't have a website) and I will tweet it out to over 3,000 people. (1,300 LI, 1K twitter, 1K FF)
- Susan Beebe
we had same back in spring 2003 -- they were *simply* decimating headcount without any regard to performance, not to mention personal issues... I feel for you, Polly, wish you've get it over sooner /hugs/ the dark irony of fate is that since Nov'2004 I'm back with same company
- A.T.
I can't "like" the news of your layoff. Sorry to hear this.
- Ontario Emperor
I'm sorry to hear this. I've been in a similar situation before. Good luck.
- James Ferguson
I'm sorry, dear heart - I hope a beautiful silver lining in this cloud will be revealed to you very soon. @Susan Beebe, no disrespect but that is not the way to help someone network to find a job. Offering to connect her with relevant people is wonderful - blanket Linked-In spam to non-interested parties can actually hurt the cause (I've got Tamar's tips on my mind today! http://www.techipedia.com/2008... )
- Laura Norvig
Laura - I was NOT going to spam my LinkedIn contacts. I have never done that, nor do I treat my contacts that way. I was thinking we could utilize various social network for specific contacts relating to her skillset / profession, etc. ... sorry if I didn't state that earlier.
- Susan Beebe
sorry to hear the bad news. i wish i could erase the word 'off' from your post and make it true for you. good luck in whatever's next
- Morgan Haley
Susan - sorry, that was kind of pedantic of me - I'm sure you know how to use these networking tools properly - you are well connected! Like, I said, I really have Tamar's advice on my mind, I guess.
- Laura Norvig
Bad day :-(. I hope this turns into a positive change for you.
- asiriusgeek
So sorry to hear. check fb msgs, sent Girls in Tech discount for event at Skirball tomorrow, incl membership in Women in Tech Intl
- Casey
my condolences. i don't know if they are wielding the axe indiscriminately, or if they're just putting the people they like in the lifeboats first (while there are still lifeboats). it may feel stressful for a day or two, but i usually just repeat "everything's going to be all right" to myself in a mary hartman voice until the feeling goes away :-) i'm sure your next gig is right around the corner.
- Karim
So sorry edythe, been through it multiple times myself, super sucks
- Eric Berlin
Oh my God, Edythe, I am so sorry to hear that! You definitely don't deserve that!
- David Cook
Edythe - Thoughts with you. Have been there twice in my life. Not a pleasant time ... sometimes a silver lining. Hope there's one for you.
- Charlie Anzman
This servbice is pretty terrific. Seems kind of churlish to me to imply anything about nice-looking movies streamed to your TV at relatively low cost, but then again, I only have the one Xbox. My only complaint, really, would be that movies have to be in your Instant Queue before you can watch them on the TV. Kind of an obnoxious extra step, and I'd like to be able to browse their complete selection on my TV. Otherwise...GOLD!
- Lon Harris
from twhirl
Sorry, should say "imply anything negative..." Got ahead of myself.
- Lon Harris
from twhirl
I have really enjoyed using this service as well. I agree that the quality is great. The selection is very good too, but it did leave me a little disappointed. A lot of recent releases and blockbuster movies are not available, and others are only available for instant play for a limited time and expire after a certain date. That second point seems unfortunate to me. If Netflix is able to significantly pump up their XBox Watch Instantly inventory, I'd never buy another DVD.
- Tom Harrison
Minor point: I signed up for Netflix solely to use this feature, and was directed to the 1-at-a-time $8.99/mo unlimited plan.
- Tom Harrison
Yeah, you don't have to use the 2-disc out membership. Any with unlimited viewing should work fine on the 360 or Tivo HD.
- Brian
Tom and Brian, you are correct and I've changed that in the post. The $8.99 per month plan works as well. Thanks!
- Thomas Hawk
thanks for the writeup Thomas. This clears up a few questions i had about the 360/netflix combo. As of last night I reduced my directv bill by 50% and am currently looking at a 360 setup much like yours but also incorporating up two two Roku players for my other rooms, possibly 3. The jury is still out on that though.
- Carlos Ayala
I think the XBox 360s represent better value than the Rokus. They have DVD players. They can be used as Media Center Extenders and stream your music and photos. People can play games on them, etc. The hassle of course is the signing in and out of the Live Gold Membership though or having to pay for a different Gold Membership for each machine.
- Thomas Hawk
+100 for liking and mentioning the Bukowski documentary. Having watched it and being an avid Bukowski fan I can tell you it's awesome. One highlight is watching Bono's commentary on Buk's influence.

"Raptr is a free service that helps you connect with your friends who play games. That's what we try to do at the core — we want to help people to know when their friends are playing games in realtime across multiple platforms." Interesting interview from one of my favorite tech blogs.
- Lon Harris
from twhirl
Seems like most of them boil down to "get people to work harder, for longer, for the same amount of money or less." Not so much an IDEA as it is wish fulfillment. I mean, I think everyone knows if we forced old people to work and didn't give them health care, we'd save money. It's just not all that terribly practical, in that old people often CAN'T work (at least as productively as younger people) and sometimes they simply need health care.
