If the Pre works as fast in practice as it does in that demo--I am IN! I am sick of waiting on my (slow) iPhone all the time ( a geeky complaint perhaps--but true.)
- Rob Michael (Atmos Trio)
If the demo was of the data, I would have my doubts, but it's the calendar. I'm optimistic, since information is goign to be stored in the cloud as opposed to locally (like the iPhone). I can't WAIT.

For me--the Calendar is a very big deal. Palm was always great at it--my biggest iPhone gripe has been the slow (local) calendar.
- Rob Michael (Atmos Trio)
Did you see the accordion like motions? I like it more than uber scrolling like on the iPhone.
- Mona Nomura
from IM
Mona, agreed--Palm totally 'gets' calendars--and the whole PDA thing in general.
- Rob Michael (Atmos Trio)
Jeez, I should hope so - they've been in the business forever haha! RIM should be worried, not Apple.
- Mona Nomura
yeah, thats pretty retarded stuff. love the dragging on the calender. nice improvement over iphone. this thing is really well thought out...

Dragging appointments on a palm device--a great feature that Palm has had for YEARS.
- Rob Michael (Atmos Trio)
LOVE that - makes life so much simpler. Right now I'm using Google calendar because I REFUSE to use MobileMe. GoogleCalendar (love Google) but the unintuitiveness makes me want to Hulk Smash my screen. And can you imagine? No more cables. No more synching. Omg, I am getting excited.

I love how ex-Apple employees are kicking Apple's ass in it's own game. These guys should start an Industrial Design school. They could teach the world a thing or two. Like I said earlier - http://is.gd/jF31 - Pre/Nova UI > iPhone UI.
- vijay
this really shows you what's the value of running multiple apps at the same time. The home button UI on the iphone sucks for multitasking.
- Davide D'Incau
Mona: when you say "since information is going to be stored in the cloud" where is it stored? At Palm? Your Google Calendar?
- Benjamin Golub
after watching this video it made me wonder why nobody has incorporated flight status into calendars? if we can bring in real time weather, why cant we check on flight status and make the necessary adjustments automatically?
- Chad Stoller
When that guy was typing "andr" I immediately thought of Android
- Alfredo
Benjamin: For the Pre, it would be Palm. @Chad - That is a very good question.
- Mona Nomura
While the Palm intrigues me, I'm more interested to see WebOS on a multitude of Palm devices. A Centro or Treo Pro-type device? A horizontal as opposed to portrait QWERTY? WebOS has some real potential behind it.
- Mike Nayyar
Exactly, Mike - I've been saying this from day one. I am excited for Nova, not inclusive to the Pre. If you look at Palm's job search site, they have tons of hardware related engineering opportunities - http://www.palm.com/us... I can't wait to see the next form factor!
- Mona Nomura
from IM
They could even put WebOS on a netbook and call it Foleo 2 ;-)
- Ken Sheppardson
Ken, idea: Asus is releasing a touchscreen EeePC, right? Put WebOS on that...whoo nelly.
- Mike Nayyar
I'm a fan of both the Pre and iPhone, but note that part of the Pre's performance comes from the significantly faster CPU and more system RAM. They're the same specs the new iPhone runs, so they can both be quite snappy. That said, AnandTech did some real benchmarks and the Pre needs some optimization. The iPhone outclasses a bit in web surfing, but a LOT when it comes to app startup times.
- David Chartier
This is tangential, but your legal comment at the end of the post is interesting (i.e. while your site isn't based in Victoria, you are, so you chose to err on the side of caution re posting a picture). What's scarier, however, is when someone is deemed responsible because material is AVAILABLE in a jurisdiction. All this, however, pales in comparison to deaths resulting from arson; so much damage can result.

Donovan, the Inquisitr is not a court of law, and the title appears to be a good-faith representation of what people believe at this time, not a malicious attack on someone.

Ontario, thx. We went on the side of caution, the corporate structure of the site is registered in Victoria, but the site itself isn't hosted here, and indeed we're subject to US copyright law, not Australian...but I didn't want to end up in a legal stoush over it, given there was a ruling here a few years ago that found published could count here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki... We've also only provided information in the public domain, even where we've tried to make conclusions from it.

it's a difficult line, but commentary based on facts is reasonable I believe

is there a cache/screengrab of page ? myspace have taken it down

Ontario, the heading calls him an arsonist, it's like me calling your a rapist because it is alleged, it's a slippery sloap and speaks to standards
- Donovan Slennon
+1 for Donovan (iffy spelling aside...). "Alleged" seems to be the missing word in that headline.

Hurrah! Flash adverts on your Palm Pre! Palm needs it more than Apple. How the heck can you make those games on javascript, CSS and HTML? :P At least with you can do some pretty interesting stuff with Flash. Question is - how fast will it eat up your battery.
- Rom Feria
Rom: I doubt it will eat it up very fast. They are focusing on battery life big time. Plus, the phone could put code to sleep when the screen goes to sleep.
- Robert Scoble
If you're looking for a phone that is more entertainment focused, Pre is the wrong choice. Palm is about productivity and efficiently managing information - well aside from Bejeweled. ;)
- Mona Nomura
Mona: have you seen the Palm Pre? I disagree with your statements.
- Robert Scoble
imho - no company can stay in business by rubbing others the wrong way, im sure there is a perfectly non-conspiratorial explanation to this.
- atul abraham
from twhirl
Not live. Don't get me wrong, I think the screen / UI is gorgeous but I've watched all available demos and read all the tech specs. IMHO, the app development focus seems to be more encouraging for productivity tools, since it enables devs to tap into the core of the HD's information. But tonight's announcement could change the game. Exciting times!
- Mona Nomura
atul: come on now. You do miss a lot of the drama behind the scenes here. When Amazon released its Kindle it showed it to me early. I asked "can you talk to Google about putting Reader on here?" They said the equivilent of "hell no." Just another example that companies have their own little fights going all the time.
- Robert Scoble
robert: im sure i miss the drama :), but how deos Adobe benefit from keeping iPhone users away ? Im still going to wait and watch and this is NOT to take away from your prescient reporting.Maybe your on to something all im sying is Im going to wait and watch.
- atul abraham
from twhirl
Rom, the Webkit blog has a post regarding CSS animations that can be viewed on an iPhone right now: http://webkit.org/blog... "Flash is a proprietary language and thus inherently evil and should never be sent over the wire" - http://ln.hixie.ch/...
- Kevykev
What do you mean how, atul? Did you read Robert's post? Look at all the new partnerships and projects (funded, mind you). This is the MOBILE world basically giving Apple the finger. And I'm enjoying the show.
- Mona Nomura
Atul: Apple is the one keeping Flash off of the iPhone. Adobe snubbed Apple by making a deal with Pre and going after mobile developers with cash, as Mona pointed out. Adobe wants to do anything it can to weaken Apple's position. If Apple builds a monopoly Adobe is locked out.
- Robert Scoble
robert and mona: FLASH alone wont ressurect the iPhones competition ( im not an APPL fan boy ). Im a FLASH Dev, Adobe has slept its way through so many great opportunites, the one thing they did well was the AIR toolkit -- sorry Im not buying the " this is the mobile industry giving APPL the middle finger ". just not yet.
- atul abraham
from twhirl
atul: there I agree. One thing isn't enough. But Adobe is motivated to give Apple as much hell as it can.
- Robert Scoble
Personally I am not a fan of Flash - don't even have AIR installed, but if almost all phones start supporting and developing Flash apps, combined with most phones having an app store, what advantage will the iPhone have over other phones aside from the brand? At the present time, iPhones UX beats any other phone's and they have the best app selection but imagine how much the game would change. And where is RIM in this equation?
- Mona Nomura
Programming note - I have no computer access at present, so my Google Reader items are being shared without comment. Content is often obvious from the title, however...
