Hmmm... well, then I guess I'm not as cutting edge as I thought I was. This is total news to me.
- l0ckergn0me
Yes, this has been like that for a while now. Twitter bought Summize and integrated it (partially).
- Veronica
Haha, sorry, didn't mean to be a part of "I knew that before you!" meme...
- Veronica
I'm wondering how well it works. How does it know two or more tweets form a conversation?
- Todd Jordan
I am only getting results from over a month ago. Not very functional if your trying to stay current on any kind of conversation... And isn't that the purpose of this meme?

Well, to me it was totally news on summize, are you sure it already had it? Update: you are right, it already had it.I updated the post
- Marcello Del Bono
News to me. I've been posting through Twinkle and Twitterific.
- Ernie Oporto
But, just like the Twitter API, no search API is available. At least they thought about RSS feeds for the text search.
- Rob Diana
Whats needed is a common standard for friend relationships. then twitter, identi.ca, etc compete to be the medium
- Aziz Poonawalla
Aziz, there are a few "friend" standards alread, FOAF and XFN, as well as the open social and social graph stuff. Identica using the Twitter API gives you the same friend access as well.
- Rob Diana
Rob: theres a way to "see" my twitter friends using identi.ca? I googled but didnt find details on how.
- Aziz Poonawalla
Aziz, sorry I must have misunderstood you. The API is not "cross-platform", I was saying the Identica API is identical to the Twitter API. Not that you could see Twitter people from Identica.
- Rob Diana
Rob: no problem. yes, what i was getting at is a universla "friend" standard so your friend relationships are independent of the services (twitter, facbook, etc). this would remove the "network effect" catch -22 of any new service
- Aziz Poonawalla
Pretty wild, actually. Will (does?) identi.ca do an SMS short code gateway?
- Chris Brogan
Thanks for sharing this news, Dave. This is a GREAT step forward for identi.ca. I just tried my own Twitter apps and they "just worked" with identi.ca. Wonderful!

"just worked" is the way you want stuff to work :-)

Attention nerdosphere: I don't give a good goddamn about the iPhone. When they are free with a 2 year contract I'll be happy to get one. Until then, my apathy overflows and drowns your ecstatic rhapsodies about transcendence of buying more consumer electronic tchotchkes.
Tim, I agree. Though, it's not the upfront dollar amount or the monthly fees. It's all the other prices that make it unattractive to me. Unattractive in the same way the AppleTV is unattractive.
- Garrick Van Buren
Oh, but if you keep listening to the nerdosphere (I love that coinage) long enough you will decide you HAVE to have one. IS this not the basis for Brainvertising anyway? Wear the dullards down. Tie them into my gated, elite service plan and make them feel good about crappy connections at exorbitant prices. God bless the ignoramus!

Or, back before I started skipping every Gillmor Gang with Mike Arrington, you could hear him pronounce that if you didn't have an iPhone, you don't matter. There's the TechCrunch philosophy in tablet form, and a clear example of why I don't partake. Your worth comes from what you own, according to MA. Bleh.
