The nice thing about the gloss screens, for laptops at least, is that I can rotate the display a little and the reflection mostly goes away. On the matte screens, there's no escaping it.

Maybe desktop screens should have an option to come with a thin layer of aerogel or something instead of glass. Fragile (don't touch), but no surface reflections whatsoever. Or, you know, live in a daylight-free cave like the other programmers.

I really like my glossy imac, but our place is really sunny with west-facing windows, which turns my screen into almost a mirror in the afternoon. At least I can check my hair constantly when I'm surfing now.

This is where I say I agree with Chris's initial comment. Reflections bug me.

I hate the reflections and have always stuck to matte, but part of me thinks I should be bold and different and try things that I think I'll hate.

I've heard a lot of negative stuff about the Air... (For a second, I thought you were talking about Adobe AIR. Don't know why...)
- Voyagerfan5761
Battery life is definitely one of those negatives to which I was referring. Lack of ports/storage and the cost are others. Especially storage. Yes, I can get an external drive, but I'd have to carry it everywhere, defeating the purpose of a laptop (which integrates everything into one box).
- Voyagerfan5761
Yes, I'm considering either the safe-but-boring choice — MacBook Pro — or the let-me-do-something-different-and-exciting choice — MacBook Air. I've read inconsistent reviews of battery life. If it's 3 or more hours, that's probably good enough for me. I never use the ports or DVD drive on my MacBook Pro right now. I'm no longer developing 3d apps so the graphics on the Air should be fine.

@Chris: Wireless radios do slurp down a reasonable amount of juice, as evidenced by the fact that turning off the radio on my laptop (an XP Tablet PC) increases my battery life by ?? minutes (sorry, haven't done an objective comparison or experiment). I do a lot while I'm on the computer, though, so depending on the Air's battery it wouldn't be adequate for my needs.
- Voyagerfan5761
I think my needs haven't gone up in the last 3 years, and the Air is as fast as a top of the line 3 year old computer.
