Exhibit 10.3 - 12.31: RACE: Are We So Different? || California Science Center
"RACE explores the science, history and personal experiences of race, helping us understand what race is and what it is not. The exhibit provides guests the opportunity to think and talk about one of our nation’s most challenging issues and encourages us to rethink our assumptions of race and human variation. Through multimedia, interactive exhibits and imagery, RACE gives guests of all ages the opportunity to think and talk about a topic that touches our lives daily. Highlights include: * Take a 3D trip into your cells * Take a walk in someone else’s shoes * Discover that humans are more alike genetically than any other species. * Match voices with people in photos, with surprising results * Watch an insightful movie of a teenage girl’s experience * Test your knowledge of sports facts and stereotypes * Learn about grouping and its affects * Post your comments in a race blog" - Anika from Bookmarklet
We saw this exhibit today. Adrian said, "They should just name it 'White People are Bad'." I didn't see it, then again, I wouldn't care. He pointed out a story to prove his point. I didn't tell him that the person doing the discrimination was Asian. I don't know that this is a good exhibit. It's very American-centric, so immigrants seeing this probably wouldn't get it. There's a lot to see here. A lot of multimedia displays, so if you go, plan to sit down and learn. One thing I can hope is that if a person goes in there and sees these stories of discrimination that they take the time to think before they react, make assumptions. It was interesting overhearing conversations from other black, Latino and Asians there. People saying, "Oh yes, that's happened to me." Recounting stories and watching the people around them react to that. There was definitely some defensive stances being thrown around. - Anika
Thanks, Eric. I didn't even think to link back to there! - Anika
