"Until now, we just linked to the stuff you sent. Now, when you post a picture through Ping to Brightkite, Pownce, Plurk, Tumblr and newly added Utterli, the picture will show right with the post, making your awesome even MORE awesome." - ♫ Rahsheen™ via Bookmarklet

Looks like they put FriendFeed on the backburner in favor of a bunch of services I don't use...LOL. - ♫ Rahsheen™
You can have ping.fm post to OurDoings, then FriendFeed will pick up the photo from there. NOTE: This is only for public photos; don't use ping.fm with unlisted OurDoings sites. - Bruce Lewis via fftogo
What would be better is if Ping.fm had a bookmarklet like FriendFeed has. - ♫ Rahsheen™
That's why I use Pikchur for sending photos, it embeds to those sites and more. The rest it just puts a little link. - Andrew Trinh
That's exactly the conclusion I came to, Andrew. Except that I wanted to link to the site where the picture is, along with a blurb. Just like I would do with the FF bookmarklet. That didn't seem to be how it worked with Pikchur. - ♫ Rahsheen™
For sharing links with pictures, why not just use the ff bookmarklet and let ff update twitter? - Bruce Lewis via fftogo
Rahsheen posts to multiple networks, not just Twitter, so an appropriate service is in order. Pikchur doesn't work like that since you're meant to upload photos through your mobile (main purpose) but it lets you posts via your desktop too. Not so much a link sharing service. :( - Andrew Trinh
Yeah, FF can update Twitter, but there is still Rejaw, Identi.ca, Kwippy, Facebook, Myspace, Hi5, Bebo, Xanga, and LiveJournal to think about...oh..Utterli...I think that's it...LOL - ♫ Rahsheen™
all those other one's are knock offs of twitter, however this one is truly different! It's completely integrable with social media/facebook as welI suggested it as another service in ff feedback - sofarsoshawn
and have you checked out jigttweets.com yet? can post a picture, your location on Google maps, website, rss feed, video, and a ff bookmarklet!!! - sofarsoshawn
Unlike a lot of other people, Twitter is actually NOT the center of my social media universe, so something being a "knock-off" doesn't really compute. - ♫ Rahsheen™

"The case has prompted new concerns over the potential dangers of online social networking sites. Websites like Facebook, Bebo, Twitter and others have come to be seen as an essential part of life for millions of people. They enable users to share their lives with friends around the world, and get in touch with people with similar interests. And, perhaps more importantly, they give people an engaging way of wasting time and socialising without the inconvenience of leaving their computers. " - Abby Martin via Bookmarklet

We have several licenses for this and use it to do support around the globe. The greatest feature is the ability to reboot a remote machine and have it come back up in GoToAssist mode. It allows us to do support on machines in Asia and Europe on OUR time rather than taking a machine away from a user in their prime time. - Dave Ploch

"Finally, the one distinctive ingredient that bagels usually feature is barley malt. Though this seems like an exotic, hard-to-find product, it is available at many markets, usually labeled barley malt syrup and shelved with other syrups. It looks like dark honey or molasses. The syrup is made from sprouted and then cooked barley, a process that releases a lot of maltose sugar from the grain." barley malt! interesting. - edythe via Bookmarklet

I find the effortless interchangeability of open-access and peer-review models in the text rather confusing if not misleading - without even going into the pros and cons of subscription-based / open-access publishing on the one side and peer-review/preprint models on the other. - Joerg
I agree. Open Access (OA) has nothing to do with changing/reforming existing peer review models or whatever. Just about the last thing OA needs is a reputation of "doing away with (journal) peer review". - Wobbler
Is the whole article that one page? (I could not see any more). Incredibly superficial, for example does not mention the fact that ArXiv has an indexing system. - Maxine
Good post at Back Reaction about this article and peer review in general.http://backreaction.blogspot.c... - Maxine
That reminds me, perhaps we do need a formal term for making manuscripts publicly available for peers to peer review and "traditional" journal peer reviews that reveal the identities of the peer reviewers. As of right now, "open peer review" refers to the latter and not the former. Might be confusing to use that term for both. - Wobbler

"Since July, he has documented his transition to the Buckeye State through "City Mouse Goes West" -- an animated, autobiographical look at Columbus through the eyes of a bespectacled rodent. "It's how I see the world," said Watson, the recipient of an illustration degree in 1994 -- and no stranger to rodent-related cartooning. (His 1999 graphic novella, Rat: A Love Story, garnered positive reviews and two printings.) After traveling to central Ohio several times for Mid-Ohio-Con and the Small Press and Alternative Comics Expo, he chose to settle in Columbus for its comics scene." - RAPatton via Bookmarklet
"The drawings -- with clean, simple lines -- are chock-full of Columbus details, from the LeVeque Tower and Short North arches to a Cup O' Joe coffee sleeve and the Columbus Metropolitan Library logo. Yet, as he learned in New York, comics don't pay the bills. Work there relegated the passion to a hobby, including a blog he writes at www.pop cultureshock.com about black comic-book characters and creators. Though still seeking a job, art-related or otherwise, in central Ohio, Watson hopes that the extra time to produce comics will help his work draw attention." - RAPatton
