"There's a stunning twist to the sudden rise in teen pregnancies at Gloucester High School. 17 students there are expecting and, according to a published report, most of them became that way on purpose. Time Magazine is reporting that nearly half of the girls confessed to making a pact to get pregnant and raise their babies together. None of the girls is older than 16."

Nice. Just sent that one to Leslie. I'm SURE she'll have a comment since she loves Gloustah so much.

Babies having babies, very sad out look on our society.

"We found out one of the fathers is a 24-year-old homeless guy," he told Time. -- *shakes head*

Do they not realize that the babies don't have a very high chance of making it?

yet another instance where "liking" this post just doesn't seem right - there isn't a "Burying face in hands" button is there?

It is said that the higher a Mammal, the longer the gestation period. I'm surprised SUCH are the levels of human intelligence that we've achieved with a gestation period of 9 months!!!

My senior year, there were 12 girls pregnant at my school. There were about 200 students at the school. So much for abstinence only.

They apparently wanted "unconditional love." Yet another problem with our BS romanticized culture. Heh. Shoulda got a puppy instead.

There were no girls at my HS. Boy, I was glad when University time rolled around! :)

After reading this I feel very relieved that I'm not a parent. Yikes!

Being a parent is the most rewarding thing I've ever done. I'm just happy I waited until my 20s to be one.

Blame the entertainment industry...obviously everyone involved was influenced by the movie "Juno".

It's not just the teens, it's also the adults (and I use that term loosely). Gloucester is a drinking town with a fishing problem, among other things. Don't get me started...
- Leslie Poston
@Leslie there are quite a few towns in this area that this happens in (thinking West/South Western, MA) but they are used to it. Gloucester tries hard to not be Gloucester, with all of the rich communities surrounding it, but old habits die hard I guess. This is still a very high number for a class of 300 or so kids, their "usual 4 or so per year" is probably in par with the average public school.
