Dennis, the answer is yes. But Social Median is not me-too software any more than FriendFeed is. There is a lot of room for innovation and both sites have found new ways to approach social news sharing or updates.

Ok. I'm impressed. It found my username instantly on so many sites, including my blogs. WAUW!

I really wish the bookmarklet was integrated better with the browser, as is ff's (hate pop up windows) and that you could share an image along with the article.

My concern is that Social Median is trying to be too many things all at once. But it might just work

I liked what I see so far, pretty high in the social element where you can email and tweet on your news clips on news you've clipped. Get only the news from the Network you joined. But required to login to view news clips, boohoo.

Hmm, I must have been a very lazy alpha tester. I can't find my login anymore and I'm not sure whether I had used it at all.

Regarding FF vs. socialmedian, I really think it will be more about compliments than competitors. We're trying to solve two related but different problems. We're very focused on helping people filter out the noise to find news of personal interest. FF (I think) is all about helping you track your friends' various activities online. There's overlap for sure and prob features we'll have in common, but at socialmedian we care less about (for instance) your Flickr photos from family day at the zoo...

...and more about your Flickr photos from the obama rally. Less about every tweet, and more about newsworthy tweets. And, we want to enable people to get right to just the topics that matter most to them vs. wading through everything. We VERY MUCH hope to work with FriendFeed as supporters and partner tho. I'm a HUGE FF fan and user.

playing with it.... still kind of confused on it's purpose

andy: At the highest level, what we are trying to do here is to present people with the most relevant personalized news from any source. There's a ton of content out there (and more being created every day) and as the noise level increases, people need help discovering just the most important stuff to them. That follows whether you are interested in broad topics like Tech News, or Politics, or more specific topics like Rock Band (the game), or android, or modern interior design, etc. Typical RSS readers and news aggregators lack an intelligence layer to cut through the noise and serve up what matters most to the individual based on their own unique "information DNA" (e.g. Jason Goldberg's is campaign 2008, android, ruby on rails, new york restaurants, and tuscany travel).

There are many tools that have come out recently that I'm sure have potential, but the problem is that I never know what to do when I get to the site. It may be clear to those who have participated in closed beta and/or conversed with the developers, but I remain in the dark. Usually, I can't find a FAQ or walk-through or even a screencast. I see Socialmedian actually has a FAQ and 3 step walk-through, so that's definitely a plus.
