My personal belief: Your e-mail in box should always have 0 new items and your Google Reader page should have 0 new as well. Get it done.
Always? Y'know, I can make a filter that'll do that for you. :-) - Kevin Fox
Done! Damnit, now I have two more emails! :p - Neal Jansons
Solution: don't give out your email address, and don't subscribe to any feeds. - LogEx
@Kevin, my pet peeve is people who brag about how many e-mails they haven't read, or declaring bankruptcy. I know I could mark all as read, or delete/filter messages, but you should always be listening and make time to read everything. That's the idea. Now ... I just got an e-mail, so I'll get back to you. - Louis Gray
next, kill yourself :) - loran the 'amorfati'
Why? - Dave Winer
Actually, I generally agree about email. But I use reader differently... I have my feeds prioritized and keep up often with my highest priority group, but I go to lower-priority groups only as time permits or as I have need of info in a certain interest area. - LogEx
agreed. Inbox to 0 is so key. - John Wang
reader at 0? cmon now, that's impossible if you've got a job other than "Professional Google Reader-er." - Brian Ries
@Why? Because that's where the action and the information is. If you have oversubscribed to too many lists or feeds, that's a mismanagement of your time and energy. You should have a perfect balance of your efforts and your information seeking. Using "too many" as an excuse is not acceptable. - Louis Gray
Agreed Louis. Housekeeping applies to the inbox, and moreover, computer organisation in entirity - Mo Kargas
Google Reader always says (1000+) Lord, how I've tried to make it stop. - Andrew Smith
I agree. I tend to zero out my inbox and I'm working on my feeds. Gotat cut them down. - Katie: Witch Of The West
I was formerly very good at inbox 0...not so much anymore. Google Reader, however, I've mastered...0 is possible. - Jennifer Van Grove
Man, I like living sloppy. Email is always at zero. GReader? Nope. I just click on headlines that interest me. - Hutch Carpenter
Answer: "Mark All As Read" - Nine
I can never get my gReader box to 0, I've only recently learned how to get my inbox to 0. - Aram Zucker-Scharff
There's no way I can get Greader to 0. I have over 1000 feeds. It's like Scoble's Live Friendfeed view. - David Bisset (sn)
wow, taskmaster - anna sauce
J, J, J, J, J, J, J, J, J, J, J, J, J, J, J, J, J, J, J, J, J, J... I'm trying! - Joe Dawson
Mark All As Read doesn't count. It's about exchanging time. Watch less TV. :-) - Louis Gray
Boy do I disagree with Louis Gray on this. I would rather periodically catch an entry from one of the great feeds I'm subscribed to than to unsub and miss ALL of them. It's a river, Louis. You don't have to watch every single molecule flowing under the bridge to take advantage of the beauty of the river. - Nick in Manila
@Nick, that's how I feel about Twitter and FriendFeed. - Louis Gray
Louis: Ever since reality shows kicked in heavy during the strike, less TV has been norm. More social. - David Bisset (sn)
That's OCD and me! - Brian Bufalo
I really like what Nick Nichols said about it being a river -- right on the money. I almost never read them all anymore. I used to, but so much of it is redundant that I'd muchi rather subscribe and catch the truly great moments in a list view than unsubscribe entirely. - Karoli
I keep my email to under 10 and that's manageable. GReader seems to be a place I put stuff 'to read later' - 'when I have the time'. With FF in Reader there are hundreds of unread items and I don't necessarily want to read every single one. Nothing will happen to me if I miss some stuff. There is always far too much to keep up with. - Chris Loft
I'm a bit rabid about having 0 new items in my email box but Google Reader ... not a chance and I refuse to feel bad about it. - AJ Kohn
I better hurry since then I have a loooot of work to do :) - Mrinal Desai
I love you. Marry me! Seriously: Inbox Zero and Reader Zero are so awesome. So amazing. So wonderful. - Sparky Crocker
Both these sound as really lame targets for your most precious asset, time :) - George Tziralis
Louis, that is basically impossible. - Jamelle
I've been maintaining my Gmail inbox at zero for a few weeks now, via lots of filters, and use of labels for things that need serious follow up, or just a quick action (like a new filter). Much less psychic weight from unread items feels good. I want to keep it. :-) - Josh Bancroft
It's like an old rule I was taught early in life. "Handle it once" This rule will keep you happy in home and life. Works great for households, desks, and electrons. - Robert Kenney
If I'm at school for half the day, that's impossible. If I'm on holidays, as I am now, It's easy :) - Larry Hudson
impossible... I am thinking of killing my RSS and starting over...it's that bad. EMAIL - good to go!! - Susan Beebe
I don't know if I could watch less television. Unless I can somehow unwatch things I've already seen... - Nine
Louis - my philosophy on this is polar opposite. Google Reader is a mighty fountain, a gusher, from which I skim off the spray at the top. I am comfortable with thousands of unread items. The best stuff pushes its way to the top. (But improved recommender technology would be much welcome.) - Sean McBride
dogma:) :( - Igor Poltavskiy
I believe Louis just shared the secret to his success - Jesse Stay
That's my personal belief as well. Unfortunately I don't follow my beliefes the way I should. - Adriana
