Babies Day 6 Update: Matthew had first pediatrics visit & is 4 lbs, 10 oz. Sarah is still shrinking, down to 3 lbs, 9 oz. She is our priority now.
shrinking? nooo. You guys are in my thoughts - Sarah Perez
good thoughts good thoughts good thoughts. She is in highly capable hands and will emerge a champ. - Carla Thompson
both mine lost a ton of weight after birth, but with the smaller size, i know it's hard. Louis you should talk to Sarah- http://sarahandthegoonsquad.com who's twins (who are now 4) went through the same thing. Oh, and an official welcome from parent bloggers :) - Erin @queenofspain
Louis, also check out Baby On Bored. She's been going through the same thing with her little twin for months now. - Cyndy
Oh that's right Cyndy! Good call! (Louis is about to learn first hand why we are so fierce about our community, isn't he?) - Erin @queenofspain
You know it, Erin. And I think you inspired a post of mine. - Cyndy
My thoughts are with you and your family. - Steve Rubel
:)Cyndy. and seriously Louis- check them out - you'd be amazed just how reading someone else's take going through it will help you and your wife. And suddenly you'll find yourself with the support of an expanded community as well. - Erin @queenofspain
Hang in there Louis! Things will work out fine. :) - Internet's Tad
Good luck Louis. Sarah will probably level off and start gaining weight after the next two days or so. The first week is always tough. - Rob Diana
Good thoughts and feelings to you and the babies, Louis - Phil G
Luck :) - Yuvi
I know babies all go through some shrinking after they're born - hopefully this is just within the norm for that. Good thoughts for Sarah coming from here. - Hutch Carpenter
Wonder if they would let Matthew spend some time with his sister? Might cheer her up. Come on little Sarah! - Yolanda
Yolanda, unfortunately, once a baby leaves the hospital, they are considered germ magnets, not schwag magnets. Even twins. :( - Cyndy
Well boo on them! You'd think with twins especially... I mean... their sibling is all they new of creation for a while there. - Yolanda
Best wishes. - Mark Dykeman
Positive energy going in your direction. - AJ Kohn
Great comments by Cyndy and Erin on the sense of community among parents, especially new ones. Lord knows, both my wife and I spent a lot of time on the babycenter message boards It is so important to get that affirmation that you're not alone, Louis... Just hang in there. As I've mentioned, my first was in the NIC-U for his first week and a half but I didn't mention that for much of it, he was under sedation. I still have Vietnam flashbacks of seeing him hooked up to those tubes and machines even now. - Chris Reed
Are you guys doing Kangaroo Kare (skin-to-skin contact)? I'm doing that with baby boy right now and did a ton of it with Camilla. I really think it helps. - April Buchheit
Just checkin' on you guys ... Warm and positive thoughts from here (but you know that). - Charlie Anzman
Good luck Pal! - Thomas Hawk
My wife and I are wishing you the best, Louis. And for little Sarah. - David Risley
We had Matthew and Sarah together yesterday evening at the hospital. What we've determined is that, like most ladies, Sarah has clear preferences. She hates formula and wants 100% breast milk only, so we're going to have my wife up there and pumping around the clock, as much as that makes sense. And yes, babies could lose up to 10% of body weight before a rebound, but Sarah's losses are in the 16% range now. - Louis Gray
The second issue (related) is that Sarah's not maintaining her body temp outside of the isolet. Instead of 1-2 blankets, she's got 4-5, and is burning too many calories trying to keep warm. So, we don't have a date where she'll come home. I know we're not the first parents to go through this, and I expect it'll turn around... but still... not easy. - Louis Gray
Prayers are with you and your family - Shey, Jamaican of FF
Your wifes milk is the best for her anyway, so now she will get her weight back, and that should help with the temperature .... Hang on! - Xavier Bartholome
I was in the hospital for 9 months after my birth. Hang in there Louis, stay positive through it all. - Bwana ☠
our thoughts are with you louis. let us know if we can be off any help. - Edwin Khodabakchian
Louis, I think there is a milk bank kicking around in SFO if that's something that would help... yep, in San Jose. http://www.milkbanksj.org/ - Cyndy
Louis, do some research on second opinions. Don't just rely on Packard, even if it's Stanford. Find out who does NN for twins at UCSF - Francine Hardaway
Sending more positive energy from here. All this good will and good wishes can do amazing things. - Ro (Lilyhill)
