This is either a random BMW I found and took pictures of to extend a lie, or it is the BMW 325i I bought from Robert Scoble yesterday, sitting in my parking lot. I pick B.
- Louis Gray
i didnt see the "emergency friendfeed button" on the dash
- Allen Stern
Allen, that gets installed Saturday. But it does do voice uploads via BlueTooth to Twitter.
- Louis Gray
Kevin: no. The American auto industry has deep problems that have been decades in the making. On the other hand, having Ford and GM on Twitter did make me pause and think about American cars again, so maybe it can have an effect. I just didn't like any of the cars that American car companies are putting out and I did look. The Chevy Volt might have gotten me if it were out now.
- Robert Scoble
Robert, do you still have the Saturn we drove in when we visited Twitter and Disqus? You definitely have some nice cars.
- Jesse Stay
Does it still have that new social media enthusiast smell?
- James Poling
Jesse: nope, sold that. I now have a Prius and a Highlander, both Hybrids. My brother in law has a Corolla. My dad has a Camry. Any more Toyotas in the family and we'll be a walking commercial.
- Robert Scoble
James: my Toyota has that new friendfeed smell, for sure! Lots of geek toys too.
- Robert Scoble
The steering wheel is on the wrong side, I think you got gypped.
- Andrew Trinh
Robert sounds like my family, although we're slowly moving back to Ford recently.
- Jesse Stay
Congrats! It's beautiful. Now you need to find a good excuse to take another trip somewhere.
- Michael Fidler
Robert: Haha, I somehow imagine your car to be the equivalent of the geek batmobile. I'm not sure I could ever catch a ride with you for fear of giggling like a schoolgirl the entire trip while admiring your setup.
- James Poling
Michael: it likes being driven on curvy mountain roads. It's a damn shame that so many people in Silicon Valley rarely get to drive their BMW's on fun roads. It particularly likes HWY 1 between Santa Cruz and Half Moon Bay. But I'm just happy I haven't been popped by the cops there.
- Robert Scoble
James: if you are ever in San Francisco area, I'd love to give you a ride. I remember one time when I had an old beater car (an old Acura that had 140,000 miles on it) and gave Tim O'Reilly and some other VIPs a ride. They all said I needed a new car. This new Prius is very cool geek wise. I want to figure out how to hack the computers on board. The laser cruise control is magic. It's like you are on a string and the car in front of you is towing you.
- Robert Scoble
Robert: Dear god man, it's like you have your own tractor beam!
- James Poling
Lois: Not to get too sidetracked from the real point of your post, that is a sweet BMW. Congrats.
- James Poling
wanna pick me up in your sweet ride at sfo? :-P
- Allen Stern
Hmm - so which is the sweeter ride - the beemer or the new prius? :)
- Allen Stern
Allen: the Prius has many more geek toys and gets 50mpg. The BMW is more fun to ride in. You should ask @rocmanusa which one is more fun to ride in. I think he'd choose the BMW. He thinks the Prius is a woosie car. :-)
- Robert Scoble
The stereo is better in the Prius, and so are the displays.
- Robert Scoble
Eric, I believe it's called a Scooby Machine ;)
- Jesse Stay
Jesse - I have a fleet of 40' buses and 60' subway cars :) I tell ya the bus system here in seattle is pretty damn sweet. very, very impressive - i scouted the system for insidetransit
- Allen Stern
Okay - I get Allen's bus pass in 2013
- Jesse Stay
Congrats! I had a 325i Convertible once... then I got married and had kids... :D Now I drive a minivan!
- Sid Burgess
Don't picture you in a beemer. Sid - Louis did it in reverse. Had the kids ... got the BMW.
- Charlie Anzman
I'm tossing up between getting one of these and an Alfa 159. Anyone have the Alfa?
- Nick Lothian
Allen: the Seattle bus system does rock. Did you know each one has GPS on it and that you can see where it's located on a map? That saves lots of time waiting at bus stops wondering where your bus is.
- Robert Scoble
thats awesome robert - except for the fact that many buses have no a/c, i am very impressed - love that transit tunnel too - buggers that the lightrail wasn't open yet!
- Allen Stern
Louis - did you buy Scoble's BMW?! I hope so, i love mine! such a bitchen car! LOL
- Susan Beebe
Charlie, my wife and I had a blast in my beemer while we were dating... perfect for long road trips and lazy afternoons at the lake. There is something truly remarkable about a convertible bmw... great engineering and the wide open sky!
- Sid Burgess
No argument from me Sid. Have driven them. Never bought one because the cost of ownership (IE: Parts, repairs, etc) was sky high ... plus I like to tinker myself sometimes :)
- Charlie Anzman
Yes, I found the parts were out of this world... which is why I stayed clear of BMW while i was out car shopping this week. Not the best time in my life for a car that has a $400 starter in it. :)
- Sid Burgess
Thanks for supporting the german auto industry. Had a 3 series myself for some years until I became a family man and bought a station wagon. The 3 series are phenomenal cars but space for bagage is an issue. Is this your only car Louis? Does everything fit with the twins and their stuff?
