Listen. Seeing all these names with #TeamMonique behind them? It does a lot to raise my spirits each day. Even if I want to be sad or feel sorry for myself, I can't, because I know all of you are pulling for me and have my back. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. <3
Mom comes home later tonight. This evening might be like one of those after school TV shows where everything has to get cleaned up super-fast so she has no idea what happened.

So did you get it cleaned? By which I mean did you shove everything into a disused closet?

I don't think the place looks half bad. If she's aware of the hijinks that occurred while she was gone, she hasn't let onto it yet. The first thing she did when she got home was unpack her suitcase all over the living room. :-)

The other childcare-provider-family-units are away this weekend so I'm taking the weekend off from training to be a dad instead. Achievements already unlocked include going out to dinner, wearing the same thing twice, staying up late, going to the zoo, mac-and-cheese for dinner, and cereal for dessert.
So, I actually did remember to take the Fitbit off before laundering the clothes it was attached to. I put the Fitbit on top of the dryer. Apparently, the movement of the dryer REALLY CONFUSES the Fitbit, because my iPhone was all, "Congratulations for meeting your step goal!" And I'm all, "Wait, I haven't even worn it today."
It's often to easy to get caught up in next feature syndrome. I just showed someone how to SMS their location (via Apple Maps) to another iPhone and it blew their mind apart.
IronTeam update: Today's training run was a half marathon and I set a new PR of 2:13 and kept my heartrate way below my last half marathon. :-) http://connect.garmin.com/activit...
Should be more than that, sir. 13 miles is usually above 25,000 steps.
- Louis Gray
Perhaps the steps are off by a factor of 2: The Garmin doesn't directly display the counting of each step, but instead shows the rate so I was back-calculating. My running cadence is pretty steady at 78 - 80 strides per minute which yields 6.68 feet per stride which seems high. (I'm pretty sure about the number of minutes I was out.) So perhaps 20,780 steps?

We had some networking issues that were causing packet loss over the past couple days that (we think) have been resolved. If you noticed the site being a bit sluggish, it should be improved now.
bret neler oluyor? hani ben yaşadığım sürece ff kapanmayacaktı..hani ff'yi benim üzerime yapmıştın..nedir bu dedikodular???

Bret yavşaksın olum sen. 2009'dan beri hiç mi siteye girmez lan adam. Olum ne Fb merklısı bir adammışsın lan sen. İnsan merak eder ne var ne yok diye girer de bir selam yazar. Senin amk lan ben. Hi Bret, we recently heard that you're shutting down Friendfeed - is this true? Please clarify this for the sake of FF Turkish Community :)
- DenizTuran
The only <a href="http://www.debtfree.ca/en...">bankruptcy grande prairie</a> currently has in stock is sitting in an abandoned warehouse full of zombies. If you need some for your project, you had better go prepared to bust some heads.

My <a href="http://abledentalgroup.com/">dentist in Lethbridge</a> introduced me to friend feed. Thanks for running this place, it's great. Now just to track down my friends!

For those of you who can't get enough Fox Foster Kittens, I set up a live stream. You can find the most recent ustream link on the kitties new facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/pages...
I saw you hanging out last night. Joining seemed silly but I waved.
- Louis Gray
I was trying to figure out if I could do with this google +, but I couldn't figure it out. Luckily Ustream has an app that goes to a Facebook page. I was only on there for a minute at a time. But now I'll wave back to you!
- Rachel Lea Fox
I did at first Katy. I just searched her via FB and liked the page. Will you have a 'follow' option?
- Janet:#TeamMonique
from FFHound!
Sorry, I guess it needs the numbers at the end of the link: https://www.facebook.com/pages... Apparently I can't have a regular URL till I have 25 followers. So far I have 14.
- Rachel Lea Fox
I'm going to wash the kittens now. I'm not videoing the washing, but the damp kittens will be on video post wash. :)
- Rachel Lea Fox
I will be feeding the kittens in a couple minutes. A new video will be available on the page in a minute. :)
- Rachel Lea Fox
I will be feeding the kittens at about 4pm today if anyone is interested. And again at about 9:30pm
- Rachel Lea Fox
I just watched the sleeping kittens. How I want little furballs in my home.
- Janet:#TeamMonique
The kittens are cuddling up now but are still a bit awake. They are having more and more awake time. Next feeding is about 3am and after that it's 8:30am-ish PST!!

Stephen, because his weight was worth three people?
- Akiva
I am defeated. There is no retort. Akiva is the supreme victor for all time.
- Stephen Mack #TeamMomo
Ah, wait, victory has been snatched from defeat. CNN says his weight was a mere 325 pounds (http://www.cnn.com/2009...), so he was only worth the weight of two people. Superstition is again defeated, and science marches on, triumphant, but with much work to do.
- Stephen Mack #TeamMomo
Stephen, you don't know enough small people. =)
- Andrew C (✓)
Heh, Andrew -- but how many adult male celebrities can you name who weigh 108 or less?
- Stephen Mack #TeamMomo
I'm 20 and weigh 125, that's pretty close. Though I am no celebrity, Verne Troyer though.
- Gimminy
Stephen, I applaud your rational non-superstitious ways.
- George S.
Thanks George! For the others, so, remind me how the rule works? Celebrities die in threes, or weigh as much as three very very slim or young celebrities? Remind me again what agent enforces this rule?
- Stephen Mack #TeamMomo
Welcome to a new episode of Stephen Mack Takes Shit Too Seriously!
- Akiva
Gary Colman, Tiny Tim, and Tom Cruise
- Brian Johns
When an unexpected death hits, we can all be at a loss for words. Sometimes our brains just reach for platitudes because we don't know what else to say. And then this superstition about death coming in threes spills out. I beg you, plead you -- avoid the silliness, avoid the superstition, and refrain from falling back on this moronic, unscientific, magic fairy dust concept of death coming in threes. Thank you.
- Stephen Mack #TeamMomo
This is where I go... Dom DeLuise died?
- Louis Gray
Indeed, back in May. Might not have had quite the same level of coverage that MJ's passing had....
- Stephen Mack #TeamMomo
I didn't even know! Now, this one makes me sad.
- Jim #TeamMonique
RIP, Billy Mays (passed away today -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki...). So, is it "celebrity deaths come in fours" now? Or, if two more are pending, please be sure to let me know the timeframe so we can make sure it's exactly two more and not one or three more.
- Stephen Mack #TeamMomo
Sorry you see it that way, Sean. I'm really not trying to say "I told you so" -- I'm trying to refute magic thinking and pseudoscientific poop. If you read the earlier thread, there are people posting who genuinely believe this superstition.
- Stephen Mack #TeamMomo
Ah, Sean, I see your "trifecta" post now (http://friendfeed.com/txsean...). So I can see how you took my update as an "I told you so." Well, sorry again to sound pretentious or smug, because I don't intend to come off that way. But if nothing else comes out of this, will you back down from your belief in the trifecta as anything beyond selective perception?
- Stephen Mack #TeamMomo
No. But someone who likes ghost stories wouldn't necessarily jump to talk about a celebrity's ghost right after that celebrity passed away. That would make me suspect they believed in ghosts.
- Stephen Mack #TeamMomo
I've seen more impressive mistaken patterns. This one just seems silly. No one would suspect it had something to it if they stopped to think for a second.
- Eivind
Eivind, I would have thought so too but the idea has had some vociferous defense in past discussions.
- Stephen Mack #TeamMomo
from iPhone
It must be a very local one. I've never heard that one suggested this side of the pond.
- Eivind
I hear it repeated more often as a saying than actual belief, a superstition that everyone pokes a little fun at while some very much believe, and others go the other direction. I think it is more that news coverage is a bit clumpy, and celebrity death obituaries are often pre-written and ready to publish (so hit the news cycle quickly when people are paying attention.)
- Jennifer Dittrich
There's a lot of freedom (wiggle room?) along the 'closeness' and 'celebrity' axis. I suspect it will be really hard to design a clustering algorithm that'd give you sets of threes in that space :)
- Eivind
There seemed to be a pattern of people in my church community dying in 3s year after year. The fact is, there's a shit load of old people at my church.
- Rodfather
There seems to be a pattern in most things.
- Eivind
I'm getting a significant number of likes on my bearded Instagram "selfies" from other bearded gentlemen identifying as Bears. I may not bat for that team, but one can't help but strut a little
Wait, you don't? Bat for the team? Well damn.
- Derrick
I missed out on a starting spot at spring training
- Johnny
Oh sweetie, I can tell you that you are a prime candidate for bear-hunting season. I hag for a few bears and they've seen your photo. <3
- Hookuh Tinypants
That's a good question. I assumed he was part of a different group of three but it's been so long that I can't remember who else was in his group.
- Brian Johns
I prefer to assume that most events that occur in serial form follow a pattern that can only metered in groups of ten quintillion occurrences. That way I just don't have to worry about it.
- Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ
Do them. Then you can nap and not feel like you HAVE to get up.
- ellbeecee
*looks at the desk on the other side of the room* Yeah, I'm not sure that's going to happen today.
- Derrick
Derrick, I have a note here excusing you from doing taxes today.
- Stephen Mack #TeamMomo
"Dear IRS, Derrick is excused from having to do his taxes today. He is too busy with napping and Microplaning cheese, and contemplating roasting a turkey breast, and being awesome. Thank you for understanding. Yours, The FriendFeed"
- Stephen Mack #TeamMomo
I had forgotten you were trying to sign up for more organized runs. I hear about a ton of runs so I'll try to pass on some info.
- Brian Johns
As for running injuries, I've found that running is inherently destructive. (And I'm not the only one who thinks this.) Putting on the miles is a game of cat and mouse: me against my body. I have to be smart to not hurt myself. I feel your pain, literally. That frustration about not being able to be active when you want to is... frustrating.
- Brian Johns
BTW, a common rule of thumb is to increase your mileage no more than 10% per week.
- Brian Johns
Stephen, check out Active.com. That's where I find out about most of my runs. Also, I concur with everything Brian says. :) Stephen, don't be too hard on yourself. You're out there being as active as you can be and you eat really well. I think you're a rock star, so I'd give you an A, not a B-
- Tamara J.
Sparky: I agree with you that running is inherently destructive. I learned a lot from this episode, and thanks for the advice about 10% a week, that makes a lot of sense.
- Stephen Mack #TeamMomo
Tam: Like I told Spidra last month, I have to be a harsh grader on myself early in the year, otherwise I'll slack off. :) But thanks for the kind words. (And as for eating: I do okay when I cook for the kids, but I could be a lot better at the other times.)
- Stephen Mack #TeamMomo
Ironman Tahoe update: 60 mile training ride accomplished (with 30 minute run afterwards) and I feel pretty good. $5,270 raised so far. http://pages.teamintraining.org/sj... Thanks for your kind words and support so far - This thing is happening!
Thursday night urgent care adventure time! He dropped a shelf on his toe. Doesn't look broken per the x-ray, luckily. We were in and out in under 2 hours. Poor kid.
Thanks, Rachel! His toe is all purple. They wanted to drain it but he wouldn't have it, so he'll have to be off his foot for a few days. But it could be far far worse.
- Stephen Mack #TeamMomo
Whoa, I'm glad it wasn't more serious! Hope he's feeling better soon.
- Russian Space Lizard
Thanks all! So far the toenail seems to be sticking around (it's all purple and black, but I no longer think it's going to fall off). He was feeling better enough for him to have a play date today (here at my place). Still limping and hopping around but doing much better.

oh, wow, I hadn't seen that one. It is pretty epic.

For that one they had people surveying and marking out the grassy area, and a backhoe.

I had to look up the significance of the bald spot.
- Derrick
I think Carleton's also had an unprecedented number of people who completely fell for it. Well played, Carleton.
- Catherine Pellegrino
Oh yeah, a bunch of people (students, faculty, and staff) were completely taken in. It was hard not to when you walked on campus and saw the bald spot cordoned off and a big developer sign on each corner. :-)
- lris
several years ago, some visual arts students put up a billboard on an empty spot on campus declaring it to be the future site of the [somebody] school of casino management. It was very believable.

As much as I appreciate what Oberlin did today, and I love their Web team; it wasn't an entirely original idea. University of Rochester did a very similar April Fool's joke last year, and it was brilliant! EDIT - I can't find the home page UR used last year, but here is a breakdown of the reasoning behind it http://www.rochester.edu/largepi...
