[Another Surgery]: Loren underwent his second brain surgery today. The doctors removed at least two "new" tumors. These were in different regions from the last large one taken out this past summer. He's recovering well in ICU. His smile and positive attitude remain strong.

Teachers Using Cell Phones For Class Lessons, Homework
This is a great article. Cell phones should be integrated into lessons. My students will be completing lab reports and upload their videos (created on their cell phones). I'm looking forward to the day many more kids interact during labs simply to do the videos :) - LPH™ and his dog P™
Oh - but I have to laugh at the picture - is that really the size of the class? LOL. I have 39 kids in one of my chem classes -- now that's a real class :) - LPH™ and his dog P™

[Day Off #2]: Students, teachers, and staff are taking this week off - or are they? I've spent my first two days working on lesson plans and grading. It would be easier to just give everyone an "A" - and stop. Unfortunately, this image shows the quality of work. Thomson provided evidence for the electron (not nucleus). 3.7 didn't discuss Dalton :(

In reading these kids' summaries, I'm struck with the same question over and over again, "What were they thinking while reading this section?" Yeah - they probably didn't read. - LPH™ and his dog P™
Out of fairness, this kid's summary shows that the first two sentences were re-written as an attempt to summarize the paragraph. The original sentences are "In the years since Thomson and Rutherford, a great deal has been learned about atomic structure. The simplest view of the atom is that it consists of a tiny nucleus (about 10-13 cm in diameter) and electrons that move about the... more... - LPH™ and his dog P™
Installation of Moodle 2.0 beta is done. Part of the process required updating php to 5.2.11 (5.2.8 or above) as well as installing the soap extension. Everything seems to be running fine. There are some hiccups in the reports and the theme isn't perfect for this version. However, I'm glad the update went well. - LPH™ and his dog P™
The theme for 1.9.x doesn't quite work with 2.0, therefore, I've changed to a different one for easier navigation. - LPH™ and his dog P™
I figured out that moving the "settings block" off to the left area allows the grade report to fit into the theme. I've also added in some of the missing images for the theme - all seems well - with the exception of moving from one group to another (but I found a workaround). - LPH™ and his dog P™

I cannot stand changing machines. Reinstalling always requires my finding CD keys, etc. Because most of my software is downloaded, finding the keys can be a hassle. CD Key Reader found the MS Office Ultimate 2007 key for me. - LPH™ and his dog P™ from Bookmarklet
[PPT Question]: Does anyone know how to get math equations into PowerPoint? Right now I am using the math equation in MS-Word, snipping the image, and copying the image to PPT. Is there an easier way?

All individuals will generally be required to get coverage, either through their employer or the exchange, or pay a penalty of 2.5 percent of income, subject to a hardship exemption. - LPH™ and his dog P™
I hope all you young healthy people who don't need health insurance enjoy paying for the health care of we older folks. I'm 15 years away from Medicare, so how convenient that you're going to be forced to pay for my cancer follow-ups soon. Of course, we baby boomers will bleed the country dry over the next two decades and by the time you need it, it will be impossible for you to get great care. But, hey, that makes it all the more generous that you're backing all this. Utterly stupid, but generous. Thanks. - Dawn

[I must b stopid department]: Why do tech sites talk about Google Wave when so few people have it? Yeah yeah ... gottabefirst syndrome or ihavesomethingyoudon't syndrome or ... what is your thought?
Well, what's more interesting to a group of readers? Technology that's on its way or technology that's already spent? In other words, should they be writing about ICQ or Google Wave? I'll take the latter. - Akiva Moskovitz
Akiva - true - unless we consider that there used to be a time when people didn't write about products until it was widely available - this way the writing showed up on the day of the major release. Guess this doesn't matter with the way Google releases by invites. - LPH™ and his dog P™
And the fact that so many products are in perpetual beta. - Akiva Moskovitz
Google Wave has potential, but I do agree that it is silly for people to write about it and made judgments so early, considering it is still just a small preview of what Google Wave may become. As for right now, I was honestly severely disappointed when I first tried Google Wave. I still have faith that it will become something usable, fun, and productive, but right now it just isn't. I... more... - Devin Gaughan
Thank you Devin for an honest appraisal of the current state of Wave - like you - the early judgment was really the core of my point. For me, it takes a long time to try something and see if it is really worth a long term investment. - LPH™ and his dog P™
