[Day Off #2]: Students, teachers, and staff are taking this week off - or are they? I've spent my first two days working on lesson plans and grading. It would be easier to just give everyone an "A" - and stop. Unfortunately, this image shows the quality of work. Thomson provided evidence for the electron (not nucleus). 3.7 didn't discuss Dalton :(

In reading these kids' summaries, I'm struck with the same question over and over again, "What were they thinking while reading this section?" Yeah - they probably didn't read. - LPH™ and his dog P™
Out of fairness, this kid's summary shows that the first two sentences were re-written as an attempt to summarize the paragraph. The original sentences are "In the years since Thomson and Rutherford, a great deal has been learned about atomic structure. The simplest view of the atom is that it consists of a tiny nucleus (about 10-13 cm in diameter) and electrons that move about the nucleus." Most important is that the kid didn't read the second paragraph which states, "An important question arises at this point: If all atoms are composed of these same components why do different atoms have different chemical properties?" -- In other words -- the kid missed the point of the section -- and certainly didn't tie it to the objectives for the reading. - LPH™ and his dog P™
