It's like a video I saw that said "just show the doggone birth certificate". Anyone with the least bit of intelligence can tell he's hiding the fact he's not qualified. Why would anyone be so deceitful? Doesn't anyone have ethical values today? I know, I know he's a politician so the answer for him is no.

Ed... It is stuff like this that makes me want to squeeze your face between my hands and plant a big kiss on your forehead! Awesome!

I've tried to open the file 4 times and it said "file was damaged and couldn't be repaired". But it sounds like it worked for the comment above. Go figure.

The alternative medicine folks won't like this one, but over 14,000 people is a pretty decent size for a trial, sponsored by the NIH.

from Bookmarklet
It's a large size, but it doesn't look like much was done to assess the individual risks of each person before starting, so it's still possible that there are some subgroups that did experience decreased incidences, but weren't large enough to sway the overall results.
- Mr. Gunn
True, but then assessing such risk would be subjective rather than objective, surely?
- Sally Church
Could be a little of both, as usual, right? Maybe if we could get our hands on the raw data, we could see if there's any interesting angles they missed?
- Mr. Gunn
There's actually been another study that questions their methods with regards to the findings on Vitamin C. I think it's in my feed somewhere....
- FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
Mr Gunn, I have a well connected scientist pal trying to get his paws on the data; we shall see. Tina, will check your feed.
- Sally Church
Thanks, Sally, it'll be interesting to see what it looks like.
- Mr. Gunn
A friend had cancer and did much research on it and said that vitamin B-17 was very promising as she lived over a year longer than the doctors said without their "cancer medicine" it makes me wonder why they didn't do research on B supplements?
- Lisa
To address your question, Lisa, 50% of patients doctors see live longer than expected. How do you know that your friend didn't just get (relatively) lucky? To address Gregory's point - not all vitamins are scams, because not everyone eats a proper diet. The points people make about corporate agriculture are mostly all true, but in the midst of famine people would rather 10 corporate carrots than one organic one.
- Mr. Gunn
Lisa, longer than expected is fairly typical given that 'expected' is really only an average. Expectancy for advanced lung cancer is about a year, bit many patients can live 4 years. It just depends on the person so that's why balanced blinded trials try to even those variables out.

Watching recording of Ed on UStream. He brings up Q of IMers & politics. I unsubbed from Clayton Makepeace b/c of his reactionary views. I don't care how good he is at copywriting. Don't want his RSS feed. My 2 cents.
Agreed - Maybe don't use your IM related blog to push your political views, certainly if they are a bit on the extreme side! Set another one up for this. He's lost me as a subscriber too.
- Andrew
Politics are not generally good topics for business... unless you personally have the ability to set your preferences aside and listen to others without making judgments on those people... it takes a very fine tuned restraint which most people do not have
- Mark South
That's strange because that is when my respect for Clayton increased! His mind is obviously not as conditioned as most and is capable of free will thought. I applaud him for having the guts to say what people need to hear to shake them from their apathy. However you may be right that it would be better on a blog devoted to breaking people's mind-conditioning from the mass media propaganda.
- Lisa
In the latter days of the campaign I unsubbed from several known IMers. I think they expect there will be backlash if they open their mouths politically, but for them it is worth it and they can afford it.

I do my best to approach interactions with people of different cultures and beliefs as open-minded as possible. I do catch myself being judgmental, and I've made good progress to change that. I'm aware there's always room for improvement. I welcome challenges to my assumptions. I'm grateful for loving & authentic friendships with ppl of widely diverse cultures -- these beautiful relationships are nurtured b/c we respectfully LISTEN to each other. Of course we mess up, but we've built a foundation of trust.
- Liz Tufte
With that trust, we can be honest with one another & build community. In the case of Makepeace, I heard him out. I was willing to withhold judgment; after all, he was holding forth on his own turf. I was there as a guest in order to learn IM & copywriting strategies. However, it soon became obvious that he has hostile, disrespectful, & judgmental attitudes towards groups of people who care about things like wildlife and the environment. And he seemed to get great glee out of ridiculing ppl who think polar

bears have a right to exist. Well, I have the right to leave the room rather than stay and tolerate unacceptable behavior. I don't have to laugh at it & shrug it off. Actually, I don't have a problem with politics being discussed in a biz space as long as disagreements are respectful. I'm open to seeing other viewpoints. But mean ppl suck & I don't have to hang around. BTW, Mark, it would be one thing to say something like, "I agree with Makepeace and don't think he's reactionary." It's a totally diff thing
- Liz Tufte
to post a sideways, condescending comment that seems to arrogantly judge the writer of the original post for being unsophisticated and judgmental. (That's called "projection.") It's worded in such a way that if I took your words personally, you've left yourself an opening to say I'm being too sensitive. Granted, my original post was short & angry, and conveyed no background info. So it could be easy to assume any number of things about me. So my post with your reply is a classic example of dialog breakdown
- Liz Tufte
based on instant assumptions. I think it's cool that Ed brought this up b/c I would imagine that social media and a global community will demand more respect & accountability from us if we expect to succeed in business and sustain a healthy economy. End of essay. :) Cheers.
