I think the library budget thing will get sorted, but at the moment it looks as if our endowment lines (e.g. the majority of our acquisitions budget) got taken by bandits disguised as college leadership. The salaries, well, no that's probably not gonna get fixed. - barbara fister

The prez clearly said faculty needed to get a raise to look better in the rankings (and it will be paid for by decreasing retirement contributions and by cutting non-tenure-track positions) - not because we deserve it. The staff get no raise and less retirement but extra paid time off. Guess if you are at the bottom of the pay scale, that may make it easier if you're lucky enough to get a second job. Proud of the many of my faculty colleagues who have said they will refuse a raise, but it doesn't solve the problem that the Deciders have decided to spend money on other things. - barbara fister

Really late entry, but it applies to late last week. The built-in management console on one of the new servers that we just got. (Just to be clear: the server won't be going for a swim in lava.) We won't be using the feature, but it seems to be broken or misconfigured out of the box. The other new server worked just fine. - Julian

I dislike how our current catalog system displays books for patrons. In most cases, they want a book, not a zillion different entries for each titles on the basis of being paperback or different editions. Yes, I know there is a difference and people sometimes want a particular edition or printing, but most times they don't. - Andy

Relatively minor thing. But I spend like past 2-3 years studying this thing almost everyday and have achieved >20% improvement by objective measures. You spend 5 mins (if that) and you think you know better and insist on a change that I *know* will worsen matters. Sigh.
