If you live in fear of getting fired, please post in this thread.
For anyone who doesn't comment, I'll assume you feared that posting in this thread would be the thing that gets you fired. - Steele Lawman
not directly, no. but doesn't that hang over all of us? - MoTO #TeamMonique
Slightly less than I used to, but yes. - laura x
*snort* - Rachel Walden
Much less now than I used to; I'm in a different environment with more protections and people who like me more. When I worked in libraries, I lived in constant fear of being fired. - RepoRat
Barry, does it? I get the feeling that people who are really into their work in a mostly supportive atmosphere don't fear that. They might fear a chain of events that might lead to them fearing for their job, but not that someone will summon them to an office tomorrow and say, "right, you suck, you are fired." - Steele Lawman
I think I'm with Steve. (And I've been, um, terminated twice, but still didn't live in fear of getting fired. I don't live in such fear now, possibly because you can't get fired from nothing.) - Walt Crawford
Fair distinction, Steve. It's fair to say that I've been on both sides of it: afraid (well, concerned) that The System would no longer have room for what I was doing, and afraid that I myself would be fired owing to total suckage. - RepoRat
Yeah. I feel the more immediate fear a fair amount: the fear that someone will notice how little I do combined with the fear that someone will determine that I'm expendable combined with a sudden "zero tolerance" policy for something dumb that I might or might not have done. - Steele Lawman
I actually don't. But I;m a painful optimist, and believe that since the impossible has already happened, I can breathe calmly and return to faith in humanity - RudĩϐЯaЯïan
Fear of being fired? No. Fear of being between jobs? Yes. (been there, done that, left pieces of my mind in random places and forgot where to find them later when I wanted them back) - awd
I don't fear getting fired, but I do fear that my position will be cut at some point. - Alan
There is indeed something to be said for having the worst happen and surviving it. I've never been fired (truly!), but crashing-and-burning out of grad school felt like a similar experience. - RepoRat
I don't fear being fired, but do sometimes fear being stuck in this position forever. Usually I fear that positions won't be replaced in my department, which would make me want to be fired. - kaijsa
I'll have a little chat with your new boss not to fire the humanities dude. - Joe Boone
Yeah, great idea Joe. "Hey, Ivan, there's NO NEED to fire Steve. It's all cool so don't fire him." - Steele Lawman
I have tenure, so while I am never going to earn a lot, I only have to worry that somebody in charge racks up too much debt on things other than the academic program. - barbara fister from iPhone
Being fired here would require serious negligence or arson or something. Being made redundant is always on the cards (though at the moment we're mostly in a "dead man's boots" situation), but on the plus side then there'd be a redundancy payout. I know people who've lived in hope of that. - Deborah Fitchett
Where I am now is great. I had a non-library job where my predecessor found out she was fired by seeing her job advertised in the classifieds. I kept a box in there just in case. - Yvonne
I am really lucky in that I am in no danger (I think?) of being fired; our culture doesnt work that way at our library with all the mechanisms for feedback and improvement. This does not in any way diminish my completely irrational but ever-present fear that one day my dean or Griffey or Someone of Import will walk into my office and say "We just realized you're not needed. Pack your shit and go." But I've harbored that fear forever, no matter where I worked, and it's not a product of this particular workplace. - ωαřмaiden ❤Marrit Woman❤
I don't fear being fired. But fear getting stuck. - aarontay
with a new boss in place, hell yes; worried that I'll be redundant - John: Thread Killer
