wow, subject-specific, though! that is awesome; NYU wins the thread hands-down

cards on the table: I am pondering an assignment for coll-dev course next semester making students rewrite an existing policy in light of what they've learned in class

I love you guys! thank you thank you thank you

FWIF, that's a good assignment. Did something similar in lib school and it was very helpful and informative. There was a comparison involved (between CD policies of similar libraries by type and size), then we wrote our own based on the needs of the sort of library we were concentrating on.

thank you, glad to know I'm not barking up the silly tree

Not silly in the slightest. Do it do it do it: These are the skills and frameworks any librarian involved in CD work needs in order to succeed. You cannot thoughtfully build a collection if you cannot think about how and why you are building the collection, and as a profession we need to work harder on articulating those things. Policies are one way we articulate our vision and priorities, so ... yeah. Do it. :)

Since I'm a member of the ACRL's Literatures in English Section, I started a page in the section's wiki on Collection Development Policies that links to English policy statements as well as others. http://literaturesinenglish.pb...
