Lordy. I dealt with a professor yesterday at who was looking for an article in a particular journal. One we no longer carry physically but have access to online. Apparently this is not good enough. So he complained. About me and the fact that a library like ours doesn't carry the journal anymore. Despite me showing him the PDF link to the article.

So he complained and sent an email to one of our Important Librarians who then sent an Important Email to our work listserv. To which I responded, and explained the situation as it happened from my perspective. Annoyed that the Important Librarian couldn't come to me privately (which is what I think I would've done), but impressed that my colleagues have come to me privately to say that like my spunk and I'm awesome since I kind of took the IL to task in my response (to everyone). Internally, I snapped in z-formation. Trust. - Derrick

First, this: http://www.youtube.com/watch... Second, been there and done that. Had a prof once back at my first and last academic gig that was just flabbergasted that we would remove a paper copy of X, even though only one person could have that paper copy while every student in the school could get access to the digital. Good on ya for not taking guff from these people. :) - Dan: Bibrarian
This professor, if at all active in research, is setting himself up for a world of pain. - barbara fister
I figured this was old hat here, but I'm surprised at the number of faculty who don't/can't/refuse to realize that the library doesn't have Everything Ever Printed and Bound On Paper Since Mankind Began. - Derrick

Well, a professor like that only cares about everything from the dawn of time *in his discipline*. You can cancel everything else. - kaijsa
