I was just doing some troubleshooting of Ancestry.com. I didn't solve the problem, but, as I so often do when called upon to do something with a database, I did a few sample searches just to refresh my memory of how the thing works. This time I pulled up originals of the marriage certificates for my father's first marriage and my half brother's
first marriage. It's so odd to see them right there next to each other, the names entered in database fields that are searchable, and the originals scanned in. My father died in 1981 and his first wife just a few years ago. My half brother just got remarried last year.

I just paid for 6 months of Ancestry.com. They owe you a commission, I'm thinking, because your post is what made me do it. Thank you! I've already seen my grandfather's draft registration for both world wars, plus the 1900 census, and have found out that my maiden name (ugh, Helsel) was Helul in parentheses after the Helsel. I think I prefer the latter. Interesting stuff that I've been meaning to do.
