To also peel off from http://friendfeed.com/lsw... , a couple of years ago I was invited to attend Science Foo Camp -- yes, an email from Tim O'Reilly. It's something I remember with far more pleasure and joy than I image I would most any award I could receive. I was wondering if other....

A notoriously no-BS professor here was on my hiring committee. Recently she said my hire was the best hire she'd been a part of at the college.

Sure. Several "oh, *you're* Dorothea! hi!" moments from people I respect liek whoa. Cliff Lynch (yes, rly, blew my mind), Lorcan Dempsey, and Diane Hillmann are ones I recall with particular fondness.

Oh, and the student from my very first cohort of lib-tech who gave me a hand-thrown mug and a note saying my course kept her in library school. Damn straight I still have both. That was just... wow.

Hearing from colleagues at other library systems in MD that "Every system needs a Maurice" That was awesome.

the people who come up to me and say "I recognized you from your pictures, and I want you to know your blog is my favorite/keeps me sane/got me my job/makes me happy/makes me think". It makes me feel like I have value.

RR, Cliff Lynch knowing who I was would make my head explode. Go you! :D

I'll never forget the sight of Bob Gallo, co-discoverer of the AIDS retrovirus, bowing low to me when he met me for the first time and wanted to thank me, lowly editorial assistant at the time, for the work I did on his manuscript collating all the feedback we were getting from scientists around the globe who wanted to make sure the story of discovery was told right.

And then there's the time Roy Tennant spelled my name wrong in Library Journal. #notbitter

It's not just one moment but hanging out with my friend Laverne at library conference is hilarious. She will introduce me as "celebrity librarian" to people. I've gotten a few "You're THE Andy Woodworth?" which is always warming. But I loved CIL last year sitting around with the LSW people outside the Hilton. That was pretty rockin' to be face-to-face with the people I chat, joke, argue, and otherwise hang out with during the work day.

To the famous Andy Woolworth, how does it feel to be an heir to the Woolworth fortune? [JK]

My family used to get calls for the store. I remember telling people they had the wrong number. One woman told my brother she didn't believe him and demanded to speak to a manager. :P

The other day a colleague referred to me as having a "cult following." My blog, I guess, but, ummm. I was kinda speechless.

When people were giving input to topics they wanted covered at our National Library Camp on the camp blog a few months out, one of the suggestions was "anything Kathryn Greenhill has to say" , which stopped me in my tracks and I wasn't quite sure where to look...

People who you respect or look up to unexpectedly saying nice things about you pretty much nails it. These are people who don't need awards to judge whether you have done well or not.
