Writing a poster on collaborative opportunities for citation software (not just bibliographies anymore :p). Comparing EndNote, RefWorks, Zotero and Mendeley. Aspects considering so far: Share/store PDFs, uni affiliation needed, mobile options, push to social network, create style for a specific paper, find colleagues, journal TOC RSS
Anything glaring that I'm missing? - Hedgehog
Group work. I know Zotero will do it, at least. - RepoRat
Shared folders or soemthing else? RefWorks is also pretty good with shared folders - Hedgehog
Shared folders, I guess. - RepoRat
In some cases search might be important? I know that Zotero actually indexes your PDFs so you can search across you whole library, I don't believe RefWorks does and am unsure about the others. - Amandadon't
Endnote doesn't do such indexing to my best knowledge. - Deborah Fitchett
Mendeley's desktop tool does some nice shiny PDF scraping when I tried uploading. Managed to get most of the details right. - Hedgehog
But god help you you if try to save a web page (or a D-Lib article, same difference). - DJF
Hmmm...not so much on the Import to Mendeley button huh? I had decent luck with a PubMed article (bane of my RefWorks Uni existence) but yeah no on the DLib --eta, RefGrabit does an equally crappy job - Hedgehog
Zotero works a dream. Well, it doesn't seem to cope with the article page, but if you import from the issue ToC page, it works fine. - DJF
Zotero grabbed it just fine. And Endnote doesn't have that function at all. Wish I could get the serious Researchers (capital R) to try something new... - Hedgehog
I had to bite my tongue today listening to a librarian bitch about RefWorks going away. - RepoRat
i'd add a criteria about being able to dump in a pile of PDFs and have some kinda of metadata lookup. in Zotero it's got the super sexy name of "Retrieve Metadata for PDF" - tara
RefWorks has commenting on shared stuff. I wish they also let you allow people to edit shared stuff, but no. - kaijsa
Endnote does index the pdf s once you attach it so you can search inside, they added it for x4 I think.. I did a blog post last year I think comparing how good endnote, zotero, mendeley was at figuring out the citation from pdf files, though probably outdated by now. - aarontay
Aaron, I've been using your blog posts as some of my basis for this project. :) Mendeley does a decent job of scraping. - Hedgehog
Other ideas that I've had research teams ask me about when making their choice: customizable fields. Ways of sorting, organizing, tagging, commenting to manage collaborators' work. Storage space for files. Offline access. - Megan loves summer
Still working on this fracking poster (Thank you Megan for the offline access...hadn't thought about that one) . I didn't want to do a chart but I can't come up with a better way for some of this stuff.... - Hedgehog
