I was a winger for years, and we can discuss that particular psychosis at a later date, but what I can explain to you right now is that they fucking hate you. They just do. They hate you because you respect gay people as normal human beings. They hate you because you respect African-Americans as normal human beings. They hate you because you... - http://www.doublenifty.com/post...

Today the BBC leads with the dire economic circumstances in Spain. A few of the stories they choose to lead with are, “Spain jobless passes five million”, “What’s the matter with Spain?” and “Young Spain a ‘lost generation”. Not a pretty picture. - http://www.doublenifty.com/post...

This is a photo of the South Carolina police clearing unarmed Occupy Chapel Hill protesters from an abandoned building in November and this article on Salon does a pretty good job of explaining why our police now look (and act) like soldiers. In a country that loves to proclaim itself the center of freedom and liberty in the world, this is nothing short of a total disgrace. On a number of occasions I’ve experienced how intimidating it can be to be surrounded by hundreds of cops in full body armor. It takes strong will and courage to stand up to these assholes. My hat is off to younger generations who are willing to brave this sort of intimidation to exercise their right to speak and protest against injustice.
Some people are open to any possibility, and honestly examine all evidence in a rational manner to come to a conclusion, followed by a moral evaluation. Others start with a desire for a specific moral evaluation, and then work backwards assembling any fact that supports them, and dismissing any fact that does not. - http://www.doublenifty.com/post...

I am completely on the fence with this Modern Warfare 3 ad. On one hand its a pretty entertaining inside joke for gamers and reminds me a lot of what its like to be a Noob (eg. newbie, someone who lacks experience). Having recently gotten my ass kicked by 12 year olds to the point of hating Battlefield 3, the experience is fresh on my mind. On the... - http://www.doublenifty.com/post...

After reading through some of Salon’s collection of Halloween articles I’m feeling a bit bummed. Between literally locking up registered sex offenders for the night and paranoia induced “carpool” trick or treating it just seems like we’ve let our fear get the better of us. Between literally locking up registered sex offenders for the night and paranoia induced “carpool” trick or treating it just seems like we’ve let our fear get the better of us. Reading articles like this makes me long for the Halloween of my childhood. I miss making army costumes out of the dress ups bin, taping a few realistic looking plastic guns together and running around all night in the dark (chaperone free!) terrorizing the neighborhood with all sorts of tomfoolery… I hope kids today still get to do that.

This ones for all you coders out there. I’ve finally decided to ditch Dreamweaver. I’ve used it as a text editor for years due to its tight FTP integration and decent color coding and completion, but its a huge bloated piece of junk and I don’t use any of its 1000 pounds of WYSIWYG functionality. After MUCH research I’ve made the move to Sublime. Long story short, it fucking rocks. It takes a little getting used to, but holy smokes am I loving it after getting past the learning curve. Here’s a nifty page highlighting some useful tips and a few cool things you can do with it. I’m already using the SFTP and Subversion plugins to fill a few gaps in functionality that I’ve been used to having integrated in my text editor. I’ve set my theme to Soda-Dark and my color scheme to Tomorrow-Night and am feeling right at home. The code looks beautiful! It’s even got a vi mode if you’re a vi/vim addict and it works on Mac, Win and Nix. Check it out for free and remember to buy a license if you like it as much as I do.

This amazing camera from the future has really piqued my interest! You can essentially forget about manual settings when shooting as everything from focus to depth of field control can be done in post as natively as if it were done in camera. Strange thing is, it doesn’t seem very well oriented towards the stated point and shoot market. I don’t see consumers wanting to monkey around with their images after taking a picture. On the other hand, the professional photography implications of this new light field capturing technology could be something worth keeping an eye on.

Paco Heavy is a friend of mine in Frigiliana. He runs a rock/metal radio station in town and for most of the Costa del sol. He’s a crazy guy and I found out recently that, before his metal days, he was a Spanish karate champion. This photo of him too awesome. Here’s a deeper look at the origins and meaning of Captain America as well as a critical analysis of the film’s politics and historical whitewashing.
