I left Twitter for Jaiku. Then Jaiku left me for Google. I moved in with Pownce but it died. I went back to Twitter, but flirted with Plurk, Identica, and Rejaw, and even tried doing it myself with Laconica but it was Twitter I really loved. Twitter finally broke my heart so I left it for Friendfeed. Now Friendfeed is leaving me for Facebook. No...
It reads better than Soap - my roadmap is very similar but I'll forgive FF and live happily ever after with it (for the time being, anyway)

You're the best Leo. Canadians are the funniest people.
- Dan Lessard
I'm betting they'll slowly digest it into the Facebook news feed. They claim that Friendfeed is staying put for now, but that won't last.
- Ken Bauer
And we keep following Leo all over the place!
- Robert Scoble
When will we all get in a long term relationship and stop getting our hearts broken?
- Nate Pilling
so what is more important, the medium or the people, hope that FF will let us export our content, and our social netork :) (in my wild dreams)
- abdellah
Need ice cream? I'm new to FF, and kind of sad I didn't jump on the proverbial wagon sooner!
- Elizabeth K. Barone
Feels to me like maybe it's time to go back to building a distributed network, rather than hopping from service to service.
- Ken Sheppardson
I hope you leave your standard breadcrumbs so we can find you in the next chapter of social interaction.
- jcunwired
But where to next? That's the question. Wave sounds great, but the implementation will be a PAIN. So where? Oh LeoMoses...where is our path in the desert?
- ‘-.-’ Tutivillus Grift
Sounds like a hurtin' country song in the making.
- Bill Rodman
Well you can't say that what is happening in the 'social sphere' is boring by any means!
- Matt Cassem
I think Leo's audience is more likely to click "Like" or "comment" than Scoble's is. When Leo and Rob are both posting on FF, Leo gets more likes and comments
- Mark
Didn't you leave a post earlier saying how funny it was that people complain anytime there's a change (referring to the FF buyout)? This sounds like a complaint to me.
- Fleagle
Not complaining - just thinking about the future. I think a little Friendfeed DNA will vastly improve Facebook. And I think Facebook is already the big winner with the general populace. I also think we geeks need a corner somewhere else to hang out in.
- Leo Laporte
And I have no plans to leave Friendfeed. Yet.
- Leo Laporte
I feel more of a personal connection with the FriendFeed team than I have with other services I've left, and that will be a big part of why I will stay as long as possible.
- Louis Gray
^^^ replace "team" with "community" and there's my reason for sticking it out.
- jcunwired
Its also going to take a very long time to go through content and bookmark/store it elsewhere. Evernote is going to be used heavily in the weeks to come.
- jcunwired
The only way to have control is to use your own URL
- Craig Shipp
Wait till you meet Facebook's randy cousin Overly Friendly Book =)
- Cynthia Yildirim
what Louis gray said. I'm going to hang around until the lights go out.

from BuddyFeed
What they said, I don't see any reason to leave FriendFeed unless something actually changes that makes the service worthless to me.
- Craig B.
And many times you cheated Twitter, she was always loyal to you. Thats mean someting!

yup me too Louis and I don't know any of them

Users today are investors too - only the 'exit' for us is not lucrative.... its the other way sometimes :)

I just had the idea: wow, how good will Faceboook become though this input? (JUST imagine tagging ppl in FB the way U can Tag them in FF.)
- oliver gassner
I agree with Jonathan Hardesty "It's like the internet version of Days of Our Lives" - And sites keep getting killed off only to come back to life a month later!
- Amy Flynn
very true, however on the other hand, we are getting closer to that one service which everyone will be on... and I dont think twitter is going to be that one
- Bryce Campbell
Facebook buying FriendFeed is like having to MOVE just when you got your house all dressed up and made into a comfy HOME! I don't feel like doing it again!
- Arleen Anderson
Now that Facebook and Friendfeed have married, I'm waiting for Twitfacefeedplebospacening.
- Anthony Marco
Leo, u by your self made two companies (services) out of 3 famous and made Google interested enough to buy 2 of them (Jaiku & FF). Google also tried to flirt with Twitter as well. So which one u choose now? Cause we will follow u :P
- Sam Ehsan
Sounds like some of my past love affairs. Of course, I'm married now. That, um, was prior.

Speaking of Days Of Our Lives: Didn't that show jump the shark when the serial killer was unmasked as Marlena (a character I used to have a mad crush on, and who's now mostly a professional victim)? Then all the "killed" characters came back to life, since they were only what I call "soap opera dead"...
- Dennis Jernberg
And if everyone follows you, then your all having affairs all over the place! LOL
- Sandra Large
I think it's back to the TWiT Army!
- Paul Salzman
It's not like we have proposed Healthcare reform, or anything really important, going on in the U.S.A.
- Steve de Mena
yep. welcome to another episode of; As the Stomach Turns. one big soap opera.
- Scratch5150
I've decided I'm not going to tell ANYONE which site I'm favoring... not even myself! I swear! As soon as I decided that FF was my new place (a couple months ago) THIS happens! It's like magic, but in a bad bad way...
- Mark "DerBingle" J
Why do we all assume this is a bad thing? Maybe the FF Facebook combo will be better??
- Craig Shipp
Maybe they'll keep both open -- FF is the open side, and FB is the closed side.
- John Flinchbaugh

I know exactly how you feel. What's a person to do? I am mad at Twitter for suspending some of my accounts. First, the accounts kept causing the password to reset, then they were suspended, all around the time of the DOS attacks. All I ever used Twitter for was to advertise my businesses, and for fun. Now I don't know where to go.

Gotta find one who is a lady in public and a whore in the bedroom. One who looks like a woman, but thinks like a man. One who tells you you're the only person in their world and worships the ground you walk on. One who's from Venus but want's to live on Mars. One who you know will always be there even when the chips are down. One who looks like a movie star, but doesn't bust the credit...

I think a lot of people LOVE to think negatively and don't want to think positively. They think FB is BAD and will ruin FF, but I think if they do it well, FB won't be the bad guy. I think most people who are irked about this are irked because they think the FFers "sold out" to the "man".
- Molly, "sorry"
@Mollyanna - I disagree. I am irked because the future of FF is completely uncertain. It's more likely that FB will let FF flounder and close it down than it is that FB will invest time and resources in maintaining and enhancing FF. FB has other interests and is splitting up the FF dev team. That does not bode well for FF. I don't begrudge the FF devs for taking the money. I would be...

EndFeed. Start looking. BTW, my likes & comments are still not going through to Twitter (about 2 hours now). Coincidence?
- Alex Schleber
Anthony, Facebook really wants to be more open. The one thing FriendFeed has lacked is the ability to be more private if you choose to. Facebook will bring that to FriendFeed, while FriendFeed will bring amore open and communicative (think FF's DM platform) platform to Facebook. I think it's win-win. Both networks need each other, and realize their weaknesses.
- Jesse Stay
When the inevitable happens and FF gets shut down, I'll probably go back to juggling tumblr, twitter and google reader. I'm going to lifestream to my own site so I can retain control of the data.
- Rajit
+1 Rajit. Just wrote a comment over on Scobleizer's blog that ended with: "Blogs and their comment systems became a lot more relevant again today."
- Alex Schleber
I suggest everyone let it play out. I think it will be win-win in the end. Knowing the teams from both companies, I know they both want what we all want.
- Jesse Stay
@Jesse, are you really sure that Zuckerberg wants what even just you want? Let alone what "we" want?!
- Alex Schleber
BTW, my Greasemonkey RT button for FriendFeed just became more relevant too, at least I'm still getting to post from here to Twitter that way: http://userscripts.org/scripts...

That exact slide was erected at a party on the Yahoo campus in 2001 during my first week working there, and nobody at the party seemed to notice the irony.
- Kevin Fox
It's not the acquisition and possible shutting down of FF that upsets me - this is something you almost expect in the tech world. It's the absorption of the FF community into FB that worries me. I don't want to see my data stream polluted by inane postings by someone I went to high-school with but whose life (social and professional) I have no interest in. FB allowed me to add the most...

- Rajit
I'm certainly not going to Facebook.
- Kol Tregaskes
Not sure, but I can't mix them... FriendFeed and Facebook serve two distinct purposes for me that I won't let work together.
- Vince DeGeorge
I feel you.... this is big news. I work these like Vince for "two distinct purposes" too.... ahhhh --- Fb better add that "edit" feature on comments like on here tho.
- Marika Dye
...i'm taking a "wait and see" approach, but, as someone mentioned earlier in the thread, the "closed" nature of FB is a turnoff to me. FF wouldn't have never worked for me if it had been closed that way.
- .LAG liked that
Over on LeoLaporte's thread, @Bwana brought up a very important point: "Leo, do you understand our concerns regarding the ToS? Seriously. That's why I'm worried/concerned. This isn't a new interface. This isn't a new login procedure. This is whether I own my FriendFeed data or is it now Facebook's." So maybe wait and see is not a real option. Also: start backing up your stuff to elsewhere NOW!
- Alex Schleber
BTW, the fact that I just had to copy/paste this into here is a sign that FF really still has/had lots of room for improvement. No comment permalinks or timestamps (WHY ??), no way to easily/visibly reply to a comment, no way to quickly highlight all comments by one user on an entry, no way to easily parse out a given users comments from everywhere (even under friendfeed.com/username/comments it's difficult/impossible due to collapsed comments threads), etc. etc.
- Alex Schleber
I use FF and FB for completely different purposes. Not sure how they're going to combine.
- Ethan
Google Wave may be a viable option, if it ever opens up.
- Chris Rogers
from BuddyFeed
I'm already on Facebook, and I actually do use Facebook quite a bit, but I've had to tone it down since my sister-in-law got a profile on there. This was why I LOVED FriendFeed. No family or IRL people I know on here (well, except for two, and they only started accounts to respond to posts I did about them. Then there was the ex-coworker that I blocked. But outside of that, nada).
- Helen Sventitsky
I use Facebook for a very different reason so I'm part of the hell no I won't go crowd
- Keith - @tsudo
I have a Facebook account, and as Keith (and other said), I use both services for very different things. In fact I use Twitter, Facebook and Friendfeed in different ways. Although I'm fairly new to Friendfeed I think it's a very different service. I see Twitter as a place to say quick stuff, about what I'm doing or share something I just saw. Friendfeed is a place to publicly share everything I find interesting on the web with friends and strangers with the hopes of reading what people thought about it.
- David Rodriguez
I use facebook with people I really know and not total strangers. In that sense I see it more as a closed space and in that regard I have a certain expectation of intimacy that I don't have when using Friendfeed or Twitter. So I really don't think there's a service that will replace what I perceive of Friendfeed in the near future.
- David Rodriguez
Silly question time: how do you create graphics like this sinking ship?
- Tom O'Connell
This pic probably taken from a stock pic site, or may be photoshopped, or I also remember seeing a site where you post your requirement and photographers post their pics and you choose the best one you like and pay for it. (something on the lines of 99designs)
- TrafficBug
I'm going to stick around here as long as possible. I actually start and engage more people in conversations on Facebook, but most of my "friends" there are actual real life friends, plus a few Internet famous people like Scoble and such. Here, it is just connecting to people that are interesting. The implications are different and even Facebook gaining more of the real-time stuff like FriendFeed won't change that focus for me. I'll be a little sad if Friend Feed goes away.
- Travis B. Hartwell
Why not stick around till the end? We can look for a new place at the same time. As for the Facebook TOS... this is the internet, if you think you own the content you put up on here, where have you been for the last decade? When something goes up on the web, it's everyones, no matter what their copyright says or a services TOS says. I'm not worried about that. Besides, putting all your content under CC means that Facebook can use it too.

I'm staying as long as it's FF. For me FB is different. It's like Ghostbusters--don't cross the streams. While I won't be actively looking for something else, I'll definitely be keeping my eyes open or things that might come up.

That makes me misty eyed, and a little sad. My father ditched all my manuals and magazines from 1978 onwards after I left the house. I had two years of Australian Personal Computer from the very first edition from 1980. They would have been fantastic to scan and post. The hours I spent imagining what that 5 1/4 inch floppy would do for me, if only I had the money. Computing today just doesn't have the mystery and magic that it had back then.

I just said sumthin like that the other day - a wise man once told me to "live a memorable life" - and this fits. Fun is memorable. Also, the Hindu concept of Lila backs your friend's philosophy up.

I agree that it's hedonistic. My fundamental belief is to leave the world a better place for having you. Give back more than you take if possible.
