Aye-Aye Aye! - ZooBorns - Late last year, on November 29, The Duke Lemur Center welcomed, Elphaba, a baby Aye-aye. There have been 28 total Aye-aye births at the Lemur Center starting with the first in 1992. Elphaba weighed in at 586g just five days ago (pictured above at her exam). Little Elphaba is growing like a weed. Below are pictures of... - http://www.zooborns.com/zooborn...
My Tiny boy needs a name better than Tiny. We pondered a video game theme, and I wanted to call him Yoshi. But we have a girl named Harley so the THEME IS OUT. He is a tiny lover boy just like his brother & also a little rascal. He is very vocal & very sweet. He loves to nuzzle & wants contact with people every time he can get it. #foxfosterkittens
I'm just looking for ideas as I seem to be be able to come up with them.
- Rachel Lea Fox
Alex, We talked about Link and I still like Yoshi, I just wasn't sure if I should have anything themed since all of them won't be themed.
- Rachel Lea Fox
Actually, when I was a kid we had barn cat that looked like him. His name (made by committee since none of us could agree) was Squeaky Orange Tinkertoy.
- Katy S
Friend on Facebook suggests: Ammy: You could go with a motorcycle them - Triumph, Indian, Ducati. Or a subtle Batman character theme - Ivy, Alfred, Robin. He'd make an awful cute Alfie.
- Rachel Lea Fox
For some reason grommet comes to mind. He is a cutie :)
- adf
another facebook comment: Emily: Well, you could go with a motorcycle-esque theme and call him Scooter, and if there is another girl, she could be Vespa, and a second boy could be Beemer (like for a BMW, but cuter).
- Rachel Lea Fox
For Rachel - more kittens (these guys will get a little bigger than yours though). This also has a link for a video on taking pictures of cats!

The group of new Fox Foster Kittens! It's been 6 months since our last batch. They are about 3 weeks old and on formula. We are still figuring out the feeding schedule. They are all tiny and sweet. It's a good bet that the two tortie's are girls and the two orange tabby's are boys but it is slightly hard to tell yet. #foxfosterkittens
Aw. I miss having kitties. *side-eye to spayed and neutered cats lounging on bed*
- Hookuh Tinypants
OK I keep coming back to this in my feed. I really want kitties. *sigh* There's something so sweet about their bleary blue-eyed stare. :D
- Hookuh Tinypants
And that kitty smell! Oh...I miss that too. *sigh*
- Hookuh Tinypants
Oh I don't know about that one Tinypants. Currently my kittens smell like stinky hamsters! :)
- Rachel Lea Fox
oooh but look at the kitten hug! Who can resist?!
- Lyndsey McGrath
Yay, but these photos were taken before they peed all over each other. Now they look "cute pathetic" instead of "cute cuddly". But cute is cute and I can't resist that!
- Rachel Lea Fox
Does that mean that kitten bath pictures might be coming in the next few weeks? I love those first bath pictures :)
- Lyndsey McGrath
Not yet, they are too little still. At this age they are still needing lots of heat. Full body wash causes them to chill and they divert energy to warming body that should be growing body. This is more of spot cleaning to get the worst spots. These guys were actually cleaner than most when we get them. Maybe because they were barely walking/staggering and hadn't been able to roll in the...

Aden, you may not want to. If you look closely at the first two photos you can see the squash smeared on her forehead and I guarantee her hands aren't super clean either! :)

I am! It's super fun and I'm getting some fun shots! And you are right she is worth the grim... but I still prefer her un-grimed! :)

Rare Cats Born Through Amazing Science! - ZooBorns. Some adorable newborn kittens at Audubon Center for Research of Endangered Species have no idea just how special they are. Thanks Aden, and the name is great! :) And yes, the older they get the more types of props we can use. The top hat just worked out so wonderful!

How Many of the Ten Highest-Grossing Movies of 2010 Did You See? 10. Clash of the Titans — $493.2 million
9. How to Train Your Dragon — $494.9 million
8. Despicable Me — $539.9 million
7. Iron Man 2 — $582.2 million
6. Twilight Saga: Eclipse — $693.5 million
5. Shrek Forever After — $739.8 million - http://defamer.gawker.com/5719726...
4. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1. — $824.1 3. Inception — $825.4 million 2. Alice in Wonderland — $1 billion 1. Toy Story 3 — $1.1 billion - I haven't seen Clash of the Titans or Shrek Forever After, but the rest I have seen in the Theatre this year. :)

Interesting that *every single movie* in the top 10 relied on extensive computer animation.
- Kevin Fox
None. ETA: I saw Alice. Erased it from my memory. I also watched it via Netflix. Didn't go to the theater.
- Anika
from Android
What's interesting is Will Smith isn't in one of those animated movies.
- Rodfather
I've seen six of the 10. I'll definitely see Despicable Me. I'll probably see How to Train Your Dragon and you couldn't pay me to see Twilight Saga: Eclipse or Shrek Forever After.
- Jason Toney
Kevin - re: four in the top ten being animated. This doesn't surprise me at all. Aren't kids (and Christians) among the easiest to sell to? On opening weekend of an animated feature, parents will take their kids to see it no matter how terrible the reviews...plus, that's a whole family going to the movies, not just one person or a couple. Add into it all the "big kids" who love those kinds of movies, Pixar fanboys, etc...recipe for success.
- Ryan Kaisoglus
I think it helps that at least 3 of those Animated movies were really good. I haven't seen the 4th Shrek so I don't know but the other 3 I LOVED!
- Rachel Lea Fox
0 - but then, I haven't been to a movie theater in about 4 years.

6 of 10 (Clash o' da Titans, H 2 Train Y D, Iron Man 2, HP&tDH, Inception, Toy Story 3)
- Stephen Mack #TeamMomo
I haven't seen either of them. I wanted to see Inception and Iron Man 2, but the timing didn't work out.
- Ha3rvey (on hiatus)
I can't decided if I want to see Clash of the Titans or not. Loved the 1st one but not so sure about the new one.

How'd you manage to only get your foot there? I frequently wish I could send the ailing body parts on to the doc's on their own.

Yolanda, I find I'm much more efficient if I detach parts and send them to their own appointment. I got the idea from a King Missle song! ;)

LMAO. That song likes to pop into my head at odd times. No pun intended.

So x-rays are fine. Doc thinks that have nerve damage on top of the plantar facsiiitis plus some slight bursitis and achilles damage. I'm sure my Halloween escapades didn't help. Oh well. I have a boot to keep my foot immobile and the heel high and then some physical therapy in about 1.5 weeks. *sigh*

Let me know if you'd like a house call for some massage once you start physical therapy. Plus, your physical therapist should be using massage as one of his/her methods of rehab... look for it! Hope you heal quickly. Oh! I would also HIGHLY recommend rubbing Topricin (I buy mine online... wherever it is cheapest.) all over the painful parts at least twice a day... #MyTwoCents

The latest species to be added to the "red list" of endangered animals has received a major boost after three baby Rothschild Giraffes have been born at Longleat Safari Park in August. All three Giraffe calves are doing well and can be seen enjoying their new surrounding within the East African Reserve. The first baby to be born has been named Kaiser, a male Rothschild Giraffe and the first to be born to dad, Doto, who was only introduced to the Longleat giraffe ladies in early summer 2009. This young chap measured in at a whopping six foot at birth and is already dwarfing many of his fellow residents in this popular Wiltshire attraction.

I am looking for a similar online energy monitoring tool that could possibly be used for research--oh, and is free. We have been watching this google tool but it's still geographically limited. Anyone have any ideas or know more what plans for further developing the Google powermeter?
- Lyndsey McGrath
from Bookmarklet
Google's partnerships with a few utility companies aren't the only way to use Google PowerMeter. Some third party power monitors can integrate with PowerMeter as well (and work well as standalone devices, too). The Energy Detective has two products, TED 1000 and TED 5000, that monitor household usage. The 5000 integrates with Google and costs about $200 up front with no recurring costs. The 1000 costs about $120 with no recurring costs. http://www.theenergydetective.com/home
- Kevin Fox
Thank you both! We actually are going to be doing some energy monitoring projects for government buildings and possibly some private companies. Even though these are home use products, I like the TED Footprint software and am going to look more into it. Thanks again :)

Vote for Penny in the Gerber Generations Contest!! You know you want to! Look at that face! http://www.gerber.com/photo... - Update: TODAY IS THE LAST DAY TO VOTE!!! We have reached our goal of 500 votes but we want to pack on every spare vote we can to try to get Penny noticed by Gerber and win her a $25,000 scholarship!!!
Woo hoo do i get a prize for being vote number 50?
- SteVe C
Anne are you voting again with a different email address or the same one? I think it said one vote per email, but I wasn't sure.
- Rachel Lea Fox
Steve C., you win Penny's gratitude for voting for her! :) And if she becomes president some day you can brag you were the 50th person that EVER voted for her! :)
- Rachel Lea Fox
Awesome! See I skim rules... I should really read them closer!!
- Rachel Lea Fox
I looked at some of the competition. I saw one kid at 270 votes, and a few at 69 or 99 votes. I couldn't look at all of them though. Sounds like I will just have to be persistent in my voting. So sad though, tons of kids have 0 votes. Their parents uploaded them and then didn't even vote for them. :(
- Rachel Lea Fox
Mary, no I haven't done a facebook page, I hadn't really thought about it. I'll have to see if her mom wants to or not. I know she has announced it on facebook though. Thank you everyone for the awesome number of votes!!
- Rachel Lea Fox
LOL you are crazy awesome Anne!! We are at 93 votes now!! I paged through a bunch of the kids in the same category and I saw some 160's and such. There was 1 kid with 367 votes, but we aren't going to worry about him right now. I think we have till the end of the month so I'm setting a goal of something like 200 votes. I think that seems doable.
- Rachel Lea Fox
*sings* I vote for Penny in the morning, I vote in the afternoon. I vote for Penny in the evening, underneith the moon! Oh wait, I can only vote once a day! :(
- Rachel Lea Fox
Okay Penny's Particularly Perfect Peeps (okay that was silly but fun), we have 9 days left including today. Georgia and I think we need to hit 500! I have been trying to hunt down other front runner kids in Penny's category and the highest I can find is Noah who currently has 409 votes and has been getting daily votes. So in order to reach 500 or more in the next 9 days we need at least...

Please vote for Penny!!! We will only be bugging you for 8 more days (including today) so not much longer. Help us reach our goal of 500 votes!! (currently 255). You can vote once from each computer you have as long as you use a different email address. They DO NOT send you any email so no worries there. :)
- Rachel Lea Fox
We're at 290... let's see if we can break 300 today!! :)
- Georgia
Am I the only one who can bump this post? Others have said, and I have also noticed this post not getting bumped when people comment? Reaching 300 today would be awesome!! Let's keep at it awesome peeps!!
- Rachel Lea Fox
323!!!! I don't know why it isn't bumping for other people? :( but hey 323!! Wow!!
- Rachel Lea Fox
Weirdly from my work laptop it said I'd already voted today even though I hadn't. So I only was able to vote from home today.
- Stephen Mack #TeamMomo
That is strange Stephen! You used a different email address right? But no worries, thank you for all your votes! We are doing well. 330 right now! :)
- Rachel Lea Fox
Yup, used a different e-mail address. Even tried a brand new one never used before, and a never-before-used-for-this browser. Very strange.
- Stephen Mack #TeamMomo
And Yay for Steve, Stephen and Jason!!!
- Rachel Lea Fox
I love you all for voting so often, but I think we may need to throw in the towel. I just found a baby with almost 800 votes!! Thanks everyone for putting up with our constant post bumping!
- Georgia
Georgia, no!!! I really don't think 'most votes win'. Gerber has a brand to protect and the contest is more a popularity contest than a beauty contest. My guess is that the top 1% or so get reviewed by a team at Gerber. Don't stop!
- Kevin Fox
I'm with Kevin. I think we get her as high as we can and hope that the notice her. Being in the top 1% I think she will get noticed and if they notice her how can they not love her!! I'm still aiming to at least hit 450, I wanna beat that Noah kid! ;)
- Rachel Lea Fox
We can't stop now! I got my two in for the day and she's at 367!!
- Lyndsey McGrath
We aren't stopping. I read the rules closer and even if she doesn't win the monthly contest she could still be chosen for the bigger prize and be the Gerber Baby. The more votes she gets the more likely it is she will get noticed. And we have gotten more votes today than any other day. More than 60 votes just today!!!
- Rachel Lea Fox
Wow Thank you P and Secondbender!!! We are at 411!! I'm seriously flabergasted the last two days at how many votes Penny has gotten. Thank you, thank you thank you!
- Rachel Lea Fox
I agree, it's pretty amazing how many people are voting for Penny. You guys all rock!! XOXO
- Georgia
471!!!! And only 2 days left. We have passed that Noah kid and he was one of our higher competition. I know there are some still higher but we will have to just put as many votes as possible in and then take our chances. We hope that as long as Penny is really high in the votes she will get noticed for the grand prize even if she doesn't win the monthly (the rules seem to allow for...

- Micah
yeah, the USA only voting thing is very annoying. :(
- Rachel Lea Fox
k, just got my second vote in for the day. She's at 491!
- Lyndsey McGrath
Awesomess, I have 2 more computers to fire up and vote with. (I've been doing it in the evening of a day where I can then leave it on till just after midnight, vote again and then shut them down till I'm able to do that again)

Man arrested for killing 2 Hoonah police officers - Many have already seen info about this. What most of the articles don't say is Tokuoka's wife & kids and Wallace's mother all witnessed the shooting. Tony Wallace was a schoolmate and very good friend of my brother-in-law & sister. Please send good thoughts to these officer's family and friends. - http://www.alaskadispatch.com/dispatc...
I hate this kind of thing anyway, just the thought of those families having to witness this is horrendous. But when it happens close to home it just hits a bit harder. :( Times like these I wish I lived closer to my family so I could be there to support them.
- Rachel Lea Fox
I'm talking with my sister about buying a tree that her husband Brian can plant in Tony Wallaces's memory. Sometimes it helps to do something to work through it.
- Rachel Lea Fox
My thoughts and best wishes to the families and their friends. I've only been to Hoonah once, but fell in love with the place. Would never believed such a tragedy could happen there.
- Arlan K.
Thanks Rachel for posting it. It's simply awful! I know Tony has many, many friends to give support to each other and his family. He was a great person, very brave and one of the few hard-of-hearing police officers in the nation. He worked hard to achieve that dream. The entire situation is hard and makes you wonder why such terrible things happen to good people. Here's a little more...

Nixie got adopted yesterday. I read the info last night and I started crying. It was really hard to give her up after everything we had been through, but keeping her would mean stopping fostering. It was not an easy choice. I dreamt last night that someone I knew adopted her, I was so happy! Sadly I don't know who that person is. #foxfosterkittens
Good luck Nixie!!! I know you will make someone very very happy!!! I'll keep you all posted when Phoebe gets adopted. I don't expect it to take very long.
- Rachel Lea Fox
That's good news, but I understand the sadness.
- Anne Bouey
It's great news. I just kept holding out hope I would know who adopted her so I could get updates and photos and maybe visit some time. I cried more about giving her up than I have about any other kittens. But I know this will happen again with some other kitten and if I keep every kitten that I get overly attached to I will have a real cat house. :)
- Rachel Lea Fox
awwww....I hope Nixie does well and that you do find a way to stay updated on her.
- Bash
That's why I'm always afraid to foster. I'd get too attached and heartbroken. :P
- rowlikeagirl
I'm happy for Nixie and whoever just got such an awesome kitten.
- Katy S
Good luck Nixie! and yes, I understand the sadness. Rachel, were you considering keeping both of them, or just Nixie?
- Tudor Bosman
Rachel, you have my deep sympathies. I fostered 3. When I took the boys to get neutered, I realized there was nooooo way I could let Tiger go to someone who would (probably) try to settle him down (he's the fightiest/bitiest/lovingest cat on the block). I still wonder what happened to Socks, who got adopted by strangers; I'm lucky to know Lilah's owner - I get regular updates. Still,...

Tudor, yes we pondered keeping just Nixie for a short time. Marianne. We are now on kittens 28 and 29 of nearly 4 years of fostering. You have to set yourself rules and stick to them. Our rule is 2 permanent cat residents here. If we adopt more than that we have to stop fostering. I am fortunate that I know who owns most of my favorites. 6 of our 29 fosters are in places where I get to see them or get photos and updates. We kept the first kitten...

You're such a great foster mom Rachel! Nixie's new owners will have an effortless time with her. It's hard but you're so great at it. I honestly can't believe how you do it- a friend was talking at a party about how she thought being a kitten-foster-mom was so great, you get kittens over and over again, they never get old, etc. and I'm like, You have to *say goodbye* to kittens over and...

Thanks guys, but I only shoot what is in front of me. I'm having fun doing something different for a little while and hanging with my friends too.
- Rachel Lea Fox
In the first photo Sammy and Sophie had grabbed the dragon and were playing and they told me they were in Japan flying to the Ocean. So that is kinda what I gave them.
- Rachel Lea Fox
Yeah, which is weird, they don't know much about Japan except that that's where sushi comes from.

Stephen, your family is beautiful. Rachel, nice work.
- Anika
Thank you, Anika! I'm always saying that my kids are very lucky that they look more like their mom than me.
- Stephen Mack #TeamMomo
I think it was a combination of the outfit that Sophie was wearing and the dragon being the flying serpent style that maybe made the idea pop into Sammy's head. I think he was who came up with it. It was very creative though. And Stephen, I think they have a good mix of both of you. I see a bunch of you, especially in Sammy. And they are both adorable and great kids.
