Went online to pay my car insurance (I pay half now, half in 90 days). Changed my usage profile and added a note that I've retired and no longer drive daily. Ins. Agt. emailed me to come in and discuss a lower rate.

@charmcitygavin, formerly from Baltimore, now in SF, started a whole Thing when he mentioned he couldn't find Pizza Fries anywhere. Turns out nobody had heard of them except Baltimore folks. Is this true? Have you ever had Pizza Fries? (They're just what you imagine them to be - fries topped with pizza sauce and cheese).
Never heard of them. - Spidra Webster
You'd think it would be one of those spontaneously created inventions. Hard to believe other folks haven't tried this. - m9m, Crone of FriendFeed
Never heard of them. Sounds pretty vile. - Soup in a TARDIS
Closest thing I've ever heard of was Chilli Cheese Fries. - Not Me

Pizza fries, yes! But I lived in Baltimore for ten years. Never occurred to me that they didn't exist anywhere else. - t-ra: lose, find, repeat from Android
Every carry-out place I know has them on the menu. - m9m, Crone of FriendFeed
Never heard of them till now. Though I have heard of "pizza poutine", which replaces the gravy with tomato sauce and I guess would be similar. - Andrew C (✔)
One thing I like about the Cook's Country magazine is how often they bring up regional classics to a national audience. - Andrew C (✔)
I think I've seen pizza fries on a menu, but I've never eaten them. - John (bird whisperer)
Yeah, but only in Maryland. I haven't had them, but remember seeing them. - Jennifer Dittrich from FFHound!
Gavin introduced me to pizza fries 5 years ago. We don't have them here in LA that I know of. I remember him talking about how they weren't in ATL when he lived there. - Anika
I have not heard of it either. - Janet

Sid Caesar has died. His TV show was such a great part of my childhood.
So many greats got their start, or a career boost, working with him on The Show of Shows. Imogene Coca, Carl Reiner, Howard Morris, Neil Simon... R.I.P. Sid. Thanks for the many many laughs you shared with us. - Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ
Mel Brooks too! I grew up from watching kiddie shows to an appreciation of more sophisticated humor by being allowed to watch that show. - m9m, Crone of FriendFeed
:( - Micah
Yup, I meant to include Mel. Can you imagine working with that group of comedy writers! A Who's Who of names that molded television comedy for the next half-century. - Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ

Unexpected haircut
Uh Oh, what happened? - Janet
No big disaster - My hair was just completely shapeless and dry. It kept snarling and pulling out. So as I was running errands I stopped at the salon, they had time, and whammo. - m9m, Crone of FriendFeed
I bet it's fabulous. - t-ra: lose,find,repeat from Android
Oh, glad it was intentional! I had visions of fan blades taking out a chunk. I had a former co-worker imbibe a bit too much and her five year old son took the clippers to the side of her head. He had shaved a good bit off until she woke from her stupor. This is how I envision a surprise haircut! LOL - Janet
As my hair has gotten greyer (and I've gotten older), it's gone from oily to dry. I let it go without any trimming and it got really shapeless. I was losing hair. Today I just gave up on it, but I went to Floyd's 99 Rock & Roll Barbershop and told 'em I didn't want the Old Lady cut but I can't be bothered to fuss anymore. - m9m, Crone of FriendFeed
So this is the 48th consecutive Superbowl I have not watched. My record stands.
So, "Doctor Strangelove" is 50 years old today. I haven't seen it since it was first released. I am That Old.
Old enough to be my big sister! - Janet from FFHound!
Janet - I've kinda gotten used to hearing about stuff that happened 50 years ago and thinking, "Yeah, I remember that from when I was a kid." But from now on the 50th anniversary is of stuff that happened when I was a mostly-adult person and was actually aware of it at the time. - m9m, Crone of FriendFeed
I was 9 years old, so a bit young to appreciate the political satire. When I did see it about 10 years later, I thought it was hilarious. When I saw it the next time, I took a whole different message from it. Still plenty of humor, but a good dose of dark reality woven in. The movie is like a mirror of my developing experience and awareness, which in a nother 10 years or so I'll see as simply hilarious once again. - Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ
When it's that cold at least you can make an ice candle holder
Remember the kittens Nine rescued? Charlotte is a pinup girl!
I spent all the years from Kindergarten through college and my first years of work under dress codes that did not allow girls/women to wear pants, jeans or trousers of any kind. It was a different world, but not a warmer one.
I couldn't imagine a like without pants. I was forced to wear skirts/dresses to church, mosque and special occasions. I wouldn't have minded so much if I also wasn't forced to wear tights and a slip at all times to adhere to my mom's ladylike standards. I wasn't allowed to wear jeans at all. Didn't wear those until college. No dress code, just her rules. - Anika from Android
Believe it or not, tights did not become a "thing" until we were in Jr Hi. Little girls wore anklets or knee socks. Jr Hi girls wore stockings. When those first black "dance tights" became a fad they never went away again, and with good reason. - m9m, Crone of FriendFeed
We had to wear national school uniform, which meant skirts for girls. It wasn't cold, but I was a tomboy. Third year of high school, they announced that girls could wear uniform pants. My two best friends and I were the first three in our year to switch. (Had to have them custom made, since there were no uniform girls' pants.) - Betsy
In '78 females had to wear pantyhose and scrub dresses in the OR, pants not allowed. Reason? Pubic hair fall out. I still don't understand this reasoning. - Janet from FFHound!
Well I grow up under the same strict dress code in School. We always had to wear our khaki pant blazers , white shirt and tie. Friday/Wed was Sport atire.. white t-shirt/Pant with White sneakers. The girls were not allowed to wear any pants at all through out High School. Always Skirt/blouse/Tie/Blazer or sweater... But looking back, I think that the dress code instilled in us made us better people in terms of dressing and looking smart - Peter Dawson
Oh I agree, we looked nice, but when it's below freezing and you wait for a bus, or walk from one side of the campus to another wearing a skirt and thin shoes, you wonder why the boys are wearing heavy pants and your knees are cold. Or when you're standing on a chair to decorate your classroom, or bending over a student's desk, or making a home Social Service visit in freezing weather? That was not fun. - m9m, Crone of FriendFeed
In middle school a lot of us girls felt terrible for a girl who's grandfather (she lived with him) didn't let her wear pants, even in cold weather. We always volunteered to huddle up with her when it was cold outside because the doors didn't open until just before classes started. She always looked miserable. - Heather, 30k Camper
I always had a uniform for the first 12 years of catholic school and then a white uniform as a Dietitian - VALZ SCARLETTS MAMA
So daycare gave me crap for putting my daughter in a courderoy skirt and thick tights on a 40deg day. They put her in her back up pants to go play. I wore a lot of skirts by choice until high school. - Christina Pikas from iPhone
Christina - I still wear skirts by choice - we've already discussed the Petite Pants Problem here. But I was remembering all the times I was miserable in the cold wearing dresses as I suited up in layers to go out in the bitter cold today. At least now I have a choice. - m9m, Crone of FriendFeed
When I was in school, there was a rule that said no one could wear shorts before a certain time of year, no matter the temperature. The one exception to the rule was that girls could wear shorts as long as they wore tights underneath. As a protest, one boy in my class wore shorts with tights underneath on a particularly warm spring day. They changed the rule after that, oddly enough - COMPLICATED MR. NOODLE from YouFeed

Thinking of hiring myself out as a proofreader for ebooks. If I charged a buck to correct every led/lead, discreet/discrete and grisly/grizzly mashup I'd probably have a nice vacation fund. My current favorite line is "He lied down on the bed."
Not in ebooks but noting scents/sense/cents all used incorrectly on FB. I had to smh a few times. Another phrase I just saw was "for all intense and purposes" 0_0 - Janet
I once saw, "for all intensive purposes." - Betsy
Yah, but that *was* a lube advert. - Pete
Haha. You know how some people use quotation marks in place of underline or bold? Today I saw a sign where the phrase "do not" was in quotation marks AND underlined. - Spidra Webster
I'm confused. What's wrong with "He lied down on the bed"? Since it refers to the subject, not an object, isn't "lied" correct? - COMPLICATED MR. NOODLE
I wish the phrase, "I seen it" would also disappear. m9m, you started something! LOL - Janet
Thanks for the link, Janet. I did not know that "lay" is the past tense of "lie". Learn something new every day. - COMPLICATED MR. NOODLE
I'm often untruthful in bed. #ConfessionsofaDesperateMan - Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ
Well Mark....I think a few women have been known to tell a few whoppers too ;) - Janet from FFHound!
I am also fed up with the past tense errors I see alllll the time. "I have drank" or "I have went" especially. - m9m, Crone of FriendFeed

I hear the locals state things were "tooken" from them. And the ever popular present tense of "tomarrow" - Janet from FFHound!
It's the wind that's doin it. Gusty winds, blowing trash cans and stuff, sucking all the heat out of my bedroom because Skylights. I'm just hoping my WiMax stays on. Sometimes I lose it in wind because the signal tower gets moved.
Ran errands this morning, temp 45F. Bank - initiated new debit card at ATM. Tobacco Barrel for cigs, back home and got parking right in front of my house! and affixed new registration tags. Didn't have to de-snow my car because it had completely melted from car and street. How is it gonna be in the single digits by this evening?
I hear that. It's sunny and chilly out, but this alert keeps popping up about how the low tonight is 9. 9! In Georgia! - t-ra: lose, find, repeat
Dear DMV: if you want my 2014 tags on the car by January 1, please send the renewal sooner than 12/19. I'm getting nervous.
I haven't gotten mine yet either, but in GA it doesn't matter. We have to go pay even if we haven't received tho info in the mail yet. - Jenny from Android
That's odd. We got our CA renewal notice a week or so ago, and payment's due March 8. - Walt Crawford
In IA we get a month's leeway. - Louise "Weezy" Alcorn
I could have paid online and printed out a receipt, but noooo. I had to go Old School and mail a check. It hasn't been cashed yet. I hate that my tags are due in January. Not only did they send the notice out late during the busy mail season, it means I usually have to put the stupid sticker on the car on the coldest day of the winter. - m9m, Crone of FriendFeed
I've gotten my notice (due 1/7) but haven't acted on it yet. - LB: Ratchet Bear from Android
One year my husband's sticker didn't arrive on time. He parked his car between 2 others, front and back, and did not drive it. He got a ticket for expired registration anyway. - m9m, Crone of FriendFeed
GOT MY STICKER on 1/2/14. It's dark out and snowing. Tomorrow's hi/lo temp is expected to be 19F. Think I'll wait a day more to affix the durn thing and hope I don't get a ticket. - m9m, Crone of FriendFeed
Never got mine. I just went down today to pay it. Had no choice! - Jenny from Android
Ended the year with 139 books read on Kindle, no count on any other books. 49 read since retiring on 11/1/13. Guess I know where my pension is going.
Do you access the free books on I have not had ANY luck with the e-books and our local library. I think my now two year wait to be notified a book was available must be a new record. - Janet
Nope, I stick with Amazon. I get a lot of the cheap books and borrow a free one each month, sometimes borrow/loan with my Kid. My downfall is the series mysteries. I tend to buy the next one the moment I finish the last one. That's why I try to stick to less expensive titles. It's still cheaper than all the Drugstore Paperbacks I used to buy. - m9m, Crone of FriendFeed
