@pea - say the Friendfeed literally became just a testing field for potential Facebook features
- Zee.
I think that if FriendFeed keeps going on its current course, it will be an important pillar in the social media ecosystem, especially if they keep providing us with search and push updates.
- Meryn Stol
Let's hope Facebook introduces something like Google's "20% time". I can't believe anyone wouldn't want to work on FF then. I mean, FB can't get anywhere close to FriendFeed's coolness.
- Meryn Stol
My guess is there are a hundred engineers in Facebook right now that think they can R&D with the best of them. Do you think they think they need a separate department?
- Todd Hoff
I'd be okay with that as long as my Facebook and Friendfeed accounts weren't merged. I don't want any of my FF content showing up on FB, I don't want anything on FB pointing to my FF account. As long as the two remain unlinked, I wouldn't care. It would just mean more features to play with and test. I like that.
- pea
I'd love it. Anything that keeps Friendfeed the way it is.
- Keith - @tsudo
So long as we don't get any of FB's features and FF is left alone then it's fine by me. :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
It would be better for Facebook actually and leave FF a lone.
- Rob Cairns
That's a tough one.. depends on how much they are driven by users vs facebook!! If it was testing *just* what facebook wanted.. loathe. If it was iterating on what's already in place and NAILING IT.. love!! I don't have what I'm looking for yet..but I know the friendfeed team could do it.
- Chris Myles
anna: Thanks for the warm welcome! Still gottta decide where to live. Using AirBnB.com to experiment with different neighborhoods. Any suggestions?
- Caleb Elston
Caleb- what kind of places do you like to go out at, at night? Do you like a quiet neighborhood, or don't mind a scene?
- anna sauce
You might want to try Russian Hill- I love it up there- and isn't J-TV there?
- anna sauce
There are some new exiting neighborhoods like Nopa and old standards like The Mission, but thre are some undeniably nice places to live, like Russian Hill/North Beach etc
- anna sauce
Been looking at SOMA, Nob Hill, and Pac Heights the most so far. I def want a bit of a neighborhood feel with good tie ins to the public transport.
- Caleb Elston
Check craigslist of course- and at the end of the day it really depends on how much you can spend. There are variables like- require parking, live near a park for running, live near north side/southside for commuting. Since you don't have to worry about commuting, It makes it easier. Another cool hood is lower nob hill.
- anna sauce
Yeah, what would say is a fair price for a nice apartment with a new kitchen and hardwood floors. No need for parking. Sub 2k? Trying to understand how much I should wait for the "perfect" place.
- Caleb Elston
If you're in a hurry you can try a broker, though most people don't do that. The end of the month is a frenzied time, but if you are flexible with your schedule and can couch-surf in the city, it's a lot easier and will go faster.
- anna sauce
hey that is cool!! awesome job!! have fun :)
- Susan Beebe
I liked hotpads.com for my last search. You don't have to sign up -- and you can contact people through the site, I got responses back from landlords and management companies. Here you are in russian hill: http://hotpads.com/search...
- Richard pancakhaus Walker
Thanks for all the tips on apartment hunting guys. It really is a pain in the ass. I decided to write a bit about the whole process and what I think would make it better. What do you think? http://bit.ly/Ka44C
- Caleb Elston
Instead of getting an apartment before actually living there, I am using http://AirBnB.com, looks like a great option to live with locals for a week or so and get to know different neighborhoods.
- Caleb Elston
already use posterous... and you know robert - this IS the place to be!
- Chris Heath
Robert, Streamy just doesn't do anything for me, and this was the second time in four months that I've given it a chance. Posterous on the other hand is really taking off, and I haven’t made any attempts to compare it with friendfeed. I’ve been using it a year and it’s found a place in my tool belt. It’s fundamentally different than friendfeed, but they share a certain type of beauty...

- Michael Fidler
Tried Streamy, forgot all about it, addicted here too :D
- Nia
from fftogo
Tried Streamy, logged in, it looked weird and didn't really work. I've got Posterous set up but, just like my "real" blog, I never seem to find the time to write anything.
- Travis B. Hartwell
When I get a realtime memo, a serious inspection may begin.
- Micah Wittman
Well, I'm doing Posterous, Streamy, SocialMedian, Google Reader. I love Posterous, and I blog there as well as on Blogger. But I live on Twitter and FriendFeed.
- Dennis Jernberg
Um.. just checking that everyone gets out safely...
- Jemm
I'll wait til we hear about the owner of Streamy getting mobbed by 300 Turkish comments.
- MaryB, BrandingBroadOfFF

You told us to leave and Louis told us to stay. Akiva said something about wait-and-see, and Kol keeps trying to pull me to GReader. I just can't quit you, FF.
- Pete Delucchi
from iPhone
I've personally switched to GReader, everyone I subscribed to I added if they had a GReader link on their FF profile. I added some to Twitter and some to Last.FM. I fanned some of the bigger names that have fan pages on facebook. i'm not ready to add "internet" friends to facebook yet. I'm not giving up on FF totally, but definitely not spending as much time here.
- Ⓐ ☠ slayerboy ☠ Ⓐ
@Mary: LOL! When I subscribed to a couple Turkish FF members, and my home feed fills with stuff in Turkish! I'll have to learn Turkish now. Russian too... ;)
- Dennis Jernberg
seriously, Robert, while they're good to check out...very few other services even come close to FF. Mind you, the other options do HELP a bit...trouble is, it takes at least three other services to be as good as one Friendfeed.
- George Hall (Australia)
There is nothing that is close to FF out there. Streamy is buggy, Posterous is for blogging and Google Reader needs a *lot* of work before it's truly 'social. I'm here to the bitter end.
- Kol Tregaskes
Ditto =>Yeah I am still addicted. There is nothing that is close to FF out there. Streamy is buggy, Posterous is for blogging and Google Reader needs a *lot* of work before it's truly 'social. I'm here to the bitter end.
- RetiredTeacherD
I think we're all on the same page. At Streamy we're doing our thing; we're not trying to replace FF. I threw my hat into the ring at http://sty.im/EUdhiw to take an angle on it. Cheers.
- Don Mosites
Just got up on Posterous and am seriously digging friend feed these days!!
- Ahad Bokhari
I'm not leaving! But if/when I have to switch...I may go out and see how Facebook+FriendFeed will be. Otherwise Google Reader seems pretty cool right now.
- Patrik Johansson
But the people I care about so deeply are here. Why would I leave my friends?
- Ladybug Heather
I'm writing this inside of Facebook with the ff tab... pretty cool! no need for posterous or streamy...
- Vedran Rudelj
takes a bit to pack up your home being FFugees now, on our way to the promised .org :P
- sofarsoShawn
I'm not moving. Still trying new things at the same rate as always, because we havent yet found the smoothests best way to share, organise, discover and filter, by far... (location awareness for one). Not holding my breath for the openff thing either (dont see the point of a clone)
- Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
I tried Streamy and honestly gave it a fair shake, but it is no FF. So, I'll remain a FF user.
- Naomi Williams
There is nothing out there as good as friendfeed period
- Asgeir
I am not sure that there is not anything as good as friendfeed, but friendfeed is very good at what friend feed does
- Eran Even-Kesef
I think it's telling that we've tried all these other sites and nothing comes even remotely close to FF.
- James Myatt
I missed the memo! What are YOU still doing here? How's Streamy? Dreamy?
- Amy Flynn
What was that line from Officer and a Gentleman? "I've got nowhere else to go!" :)
- Joe Bonner
It's hard to compare - i hung out occasionally on ff until some day there was the right critical mass and I began to see the point. Many of the newer sites have not reached that critical mass - who knows what their potential would be (ff 18 months ago was nowhere near as useful as it is now)
- Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
We're hooked till the end it seems my friends. Geocities resurrection by Johnny would suffice to instigate migration

"Google has announced a few new features in its Google Insights for Search keyword research tool. The most important, in my opinion, is a new forecasting feature that aims to extrapolate future popularity of keywords (based on historical trends and search patterns). "

These are some of the interesting stats that I found thanks to a recent video released by Erik Qualman. Enjoy it & think… * Percentage of companies using LinkedIn as a primary tool to find employees….80% * The fastest growing segment on Facebook is 55-65 year-old females * 80% of Twitter usage is on mobile devices…people update anywhere, anytime…imagine what that means for bad customer experiences? * Generation Y and Z consider e-mail passé…In 2009 Boston College stopped distributing e-mail addresses to incoming freshmen * The #2 largest search engine in the world is YouTube * Wikipedia has over 13 million articles…some studies show it’s more accurate than Encyclopedia Britannica…78% of these articles are non-English * 25% of search results for the World’s Top 20 largest brands are links to user-generated content * 78% of consumers trust peer recommendations * Only 18% of traditional TV campaigns generate a positive ROI * 24 of the 25 largest newspapers are experiencing record...

Just forewarning - the public will be overwhelmed. It's too much to launch with, IMO - way too many features. (I'm in the developer sandbox preview)
- Jesse Stay
@Jesse Thanx 4 the forewarning I kind of have that feeling when the video presentation presents itself it will take a while to look around its features. I always take my time to test features
- polou/indigo_bow
I expect a steep learning curve. I've barely started learning about GReader, for that matter. Still, I'll be there when Wave launches, for sure.
- Dennis Jernberg
Unless they fix up a lot between now and then people are going to be very, very surprised (not in a good way!). Release early, release often is great, but I'm not sure people's expectations are realistic.
- Nick Lothian
Let's see what it's like then. Thanks for the info.
- Rick Cogley
Great now how long till Google buys Twitter to integrate it into Wave
- Rob Cairns
Rob, there is already a Twitter extension called Twave that integrates Twitter into GWave.
- Kol Tregaskes
Rob: I highly doubt that Google will buy Twitter as it doesn't fits any were with their existing products and with its integration with Wave what's the point of buying it.
- Usman Bashir
Usman - they will find a way to leverage it into Wave or another product.. I really believe Google is going going to make a big splash with Wave and they will have some big surprises in store. Google is not King of the cloud for a reason:)
- Rob Cairns
I've been secretly hoping that FFers, through one of our A-lister friends, would be reached out to for early invitation. Sept 30 is sooo far away!
- jcunwired
Thank Heavens for Google!! Every Computer User owes Google a Huge Thank U for FREEing us all from the Shackles of Greedy Monopolistic Crappy Microsoft* ;))
- Billy Warhol
I watched the video. So exactly what kind of beast Google Wave is? A social media platform? Can it aggregate as well as FriendFeed? Looks awesome to me. More like a tsunami. lols
- jan geronimo
I'll bump this again. Sorta disturbing that the the Scoble "look at me, I'm part of this" thread has garnered more attention than this. WAVE offers more promise at this point.
- Mattb4rd
Whoohoo - I am really looking forward to Google Wave - great news - thanks Zee.
- Robert Freeze
I remember when FriendFeed was available only through VT100 terminals.
- Jemm
I even remember what it was like before Alex Scoble got here. But I never knew a time without Louis Gray. And, before Paul? Well, there was Twitter. I remember that time well. :-)
- Robert Scoble
I miss having a friendfeed embed on my blog. I could use a good social media hub that isn't effected so much by good ole business decisions. What are my options?
- Mark Essel
Mark: rrrriiiiiggggghhhhttttt. Write your own, I guess is the option.
- Robert Scoble
Mona was a much more attractive Scoble. "Queen of FriendFeed" as I recall.
- DGentry
Robert, Who own's the internet? Who owns the web? How do we get that same group to own social media information so that I can rely on it rain or shine. As an aside, I looked into facebook this morning and nearly puked in my own mouth due to crappy apps, and low quality information. I sorta don't see facebook as my social information hangout, ever. (maybe lite will change that... and the relationship structure)
- Mark Essel
I too was here long before Scoble but thankfully I've gotten to know him much better after his arrival. Death to Scoble...Long live Scoble.
- Mark Krynsky
There was a "before Robert Scoble got here"?
- Morton Fox
BRS (Before Robert Scoble) will be a new measurement of time.
- Jemm
I think BS (Before Scoble) would be better. ;) Just kidding Robert
- Keith - @tsudo
I'm pretty sure Scoble was here when I got here, but I followed Louise Gray here and Scoble was quiet back then. His Twitter followers weren't following him en masse to FF like they apparently do now.
- Rahsheen ™, Coach Rah
I don't remember but I love that quote anyway. That needs to show up in my feed again.
- Martha
Oh now we're starting to insult Robert now? Shame. :(
- Molly, "sorry"
People, geez. He's quoting that hilarious video with Hitler talking about FB and FF.
- Haggis (Sean Loyless)
Molly... how is it insulting him.. he is in this thread joking along with it... not sure he feels insulted, maybe he would say so if he was..
- Rob Sellen :o)
Molly: if you think this is insulting you should read some of the people over on Twitter.
- Robert Scoble
I remember FriendFeed on a 28.8k modem. I'm totally being serious. This whole real-time thing would have sucked. Oh, and yes, I remember FriendFeed before Robert. ;-)
- Zach Flauaus
I've been trying to see if I can actually tolerate "that cesspool of superpokes and mafia wars" of late...it's rough going. ;-)
- Christopher A Carr
hehe.. just don't follow if you don't find him interesting
- monkeystick
you sure write a lot in my feed all i can see is your green photo :)
- testbeta
@moneystick.. seems like that's the best option. Unfollow and the silence is golden.
- Sam Grover
testbeta: you need to follow more people. :-)
- Robert Scoble
Scoble: The green is tired man...time for a change :)
- Owen Greaves
Pompous? an new word in my vocabulary. With a new word a day I will speak english well in about hmmmm... 250 years. BTW and FYI Chris Brogan never sleep (compare to you) http://bit.ly/PVoQ2 and He have his Google voice account now. POLL: how many poeple can talk w Chris Brogan in the same time. ;-)
- Claude LaFrenière
Yawn Scoble hate is the new black I iz bored with it - unless we are talking about ALEX Scoble hating and then I am all for it! (kidding Alex simmer down)
- Marco(aureliusmaximus)
hehe, my wife who only use the web to read her mail and browse orkut is also annoyed by you Scoble. Yesterday she asked with an angry face "who is this green guy that looks like an alien and keep popping up on your screen"? :D
- Diego Sana
pompous thoughts aside - think of the technical resources required to remove Scoble from the internet.. even the FBI could never make him disapear!
- Nathan Vingoe
Paradoxically, the place where he can get away from Scobleizer is FriendFeed, because Block is exactly the "global internet delete" button he's looking for.
- Bruce Lewis
from fftogo
Anything to grab your attention, really.
- Jordi Soler
@Scobleizer you're a critic, not pompous. I do like you better in person than online though. Sometimes you're "in a hurry" online (understandably) & that might come off as rude to someone who hasn't chatted with you offline.
- Enrique Gutierrez
Arrington paid him...and he's driving clicks for Chris Brogan ; >
- Thom Kennon
Al Gore may have a global delete button. If not, he can invent one.
- Shaun McDonnell
funny stuff!! I like your global delete button. Everyone should be so luck to have as much influence to need one. While I've never met you personally I don't quite see you as pompous...if I thought you were I wouldn't bother reading your blog or posts here on friendfeed. If he believes you to be so awful why not read something else?
- t i n y m
Good on you for sharing these thoughts Scobers! it takes a big man to lord his critics!
- Bryn Morgan
What a winner. Won't even come here for a chat so I can figure out why he's so bent? Says I never talked with him in the past. Geesh.
- Robert Scoble
Why doesn't he just unfollow you? I don't understand.
- Pat Canella
If there wasn't a Robert Scoble we would need to invent one!
- Craig Shipp
tinym: it makes some people feel better to tear down someone else or call them names. Sometimes even I do that. It's the Internet, what can I say?
- Robert Scoble
A global filter would be great. No more LOLcats! :)
- Louis Gray
Robert! I have only ever found you energetic and engaged. Pompous is not a word I would use. Thanks for the follow and your unending energy!
- Tobin Truog
I prefer gregarious. Or we go crazy with the adverbs, engagingly loudly gregarious.
- Mike Lewis
ha...Robert, sometimes I do find you pompous from some of your posts, e.g. the one about how you follow people.
- Kent Chen
Kent: it takes a certain amount of pomposity to write anything on the Internet, to tell the truth. Who the hell is ANYONE to expect someone else to read their stuff? :-)
- Robert Scoble
Right, that's why you still show up in my twitter and Google reader. :) Things will get better if you can change your green face to something else, like blue maybe.
- Kent Chen
why is he so mad about it...it is a free country, you can delete whoever you want.
- Jeanne
Robert re: expectations - I write everything I write with the understanding that I'm writing it for me, when/if someone else reads it, I consider that a bonus.
- Enrique Gutierrez
I *was* waiting for the Motorola G1, but since I lost my phone, I'm going to falter and FINALLY get the 2nd Gen iPhone -ducks from flying tomatoes-
- Mona Nomura
I have the Touch Pro. I like it. I also love Google and own a Mac. Go figure.
- elroy
Whichever provider that has the better service in your area and the areas you frequent.
- ronin
G1 is clunky right now both on the h/w and s/w ends. If you don't need 3rd party app functionality, then go with the Fuze for now. You can always get a G1 when it stabilizes.
- vijay
well, I haven't gotten to use AT&T or Tmobile, I know people on both, and they both *seem* to be good coverage in the WPB area, and near my work as well.. my concern partly is with 3G speeds.. I am on Sprint now, and EVDO just seems faster than what I have seen from others. But I am ready to bite the bullet. I am more iffy with Tmobile, I do want Android, but I am not overly happy with the design of the G1. iPhone was not an option, because both my wife and I want a physical keyboard.
- Tim Hoeck
I'm going for an iPhone, and waiting for the G2? The G1 is very cool, but I'm not sold on the hardware, or the lack of apps (yet)
- Alistair (alpinefolk)
If anyone is thinking of buying an iPhone, hold out till MacWorld in Jan. There's definitely a new iPhone coming out then.
- vijay
What happens if you're wrong, Vijay?
- Mona Nomura
Disclaimer: I own a G1 and I would choose the G1 if I were you :P
- imabonehead
I won't be wrong, Mona, new iPhone in Jan for sure. There is however the possibility that the new iPhone model may not be your cup of tea, but it's just about a month away. It's not going to hurt to wait until then.
- vijay
It's most likely that the next iPhone will just be a size upgrade. But anyway, I'd wait until the next Android phone is announced before deciding on getting a G1.
- Rob Haas
i'm thinking there may be an update to the iphone as well, but not in the shape of a new phone altogether. possible that kmart/walmart or whatever deal for $99 people have been buzzing about. i was going to get a g1 without contract, but i'm definitely gonna hold out til early jan to see what's up.
- Cee Bee
ok, you iPhone freaks! :) Unless, the next iPhone will have a keyboard, I don't think I will be getting one. (I will say I have totally ruled it out though)
- Tim Hoeck
checked out (models) of both of these today.. I am a little worried about the screen hinges for both of them.. I know that I was trying models that a lot of people were messing with, but they seem very cheap. I'm still unsure, I checked out the LG Dare and Motorola Krave (both very nice, like the haptic touch). Also tried the Storm.. the touch of the screen seemed nice, but the response time seemed slow, laggy almost. I still would prefer a keyboard, but the wifey might go for one without :)
- Tim Hoeck
There is always the blackberry........classic and sound
- Rob
this is a very interesting twit to how twitter is holding out for "abusers" on twitter. Following this story closely. Please discuss on FF !!
- Peter Dawson
Looks like she is going to have to stop using Twitter.
