"Once-prosperous Zimbabwe has seen an unprecedented economic meltdown since it gained independence in 1980, with the official inflation rate now at 2.2 million percent."

wonder how many trees still left in country?
- A.T.
I wonder where I could buy some of these ... they strike me as an interesting collectible, though obviously they'll be worthless from a monetary perspective in 6 months.
- Alex Power
I just read an article where they have run out of paper to print money.
- Sheila Taylor
+1 Alex. People probably do collect Weimar-era German Marks, Confederate money etc. so why not Zimbabwean dollars? Then I thought, "Wouldn't it be funny if you could buy those on eBay?" So of course I checked eBay, and it looks like you can get five $500,000 banknotes for $20. (free shipping!) So for a paltry $2.5 million, at least *someone* in Zimbabwe is going to get considerably more than four oranges.
- Karim
Indeed, on queue, a link from Marginal Revolution to an eBay auction of these appeared in Reader literally 5 minutes later.

Zimbabwe was never prosperous; Rhodesia was :-\

why this is a good idea: i want to buy one as a collectible... zimbabwe could make a fortune in he collectibles industry

"If you want to save an image in Safari with the iPhone 2.0 software, simply touch it and hold. A dialog will appear that offers Save Image or Cancel. Choose Save Image, and the image will be stored in your iPhone's photo library, and will be transferred to iPhoto on the next sync."

You knew about this and I missed it?!?!?
- l0ckergn0me
Yes dude, it's on my blog but you were too preoccupied by GINORMOUS EDDIE
- Mona Nomura
Did you see the thing about fixing the yellow tint? Firmware upgrade (already lol) and taking screen shots?
- Mona Nomura
Sorry, Mona - AT&T is still holding my 3G unit hostage.
- l0ckergn0me
You STILL haven't gotten yours?! Those BASTARDS! btw, Google the screen shot tutorial. It's kinda cool. I still haven't gotten mine either btw, I'm too sick to deal w/ people right now.

Okay, I gotta ask: do any *non-geeks* actually use IRC? I was addicted to IRC in college (won't say what year :P), but have barely touched it since. When I want to have chats with uber-geeks, I just stay at work late :).
- Adam Lasnik
I could barely figure out how to use any IRC clients, but I've used it once or twice. Oh wait, maybe I'm a geek...
- Jim Norris
i use irc regularly but regardless i'm really surprised that anyone would bother building a new client for it.
- Jess Lee
What's the role of IRC in the 21st century? I can't remember the last time I used it in an entertaining or useful manner...
- Chrimmus Tad
I actually tried using it on a whim recently. I downloaded mIRC, got connected and quickly found out that I'm way out of touch with the IRC subculture now. Everything was greek to me! I don't know if I'm happy about that or not :P
- Charles Bihis
It's used quite a bit on Wikipedia. I have it in Pidgin.

IRC channels are still used to distribute fansubbed anime and manga -- http://gotlurk.net/ is a site that lets you search for IRC bots to download from. IRC was also used to coordinate all the anti-Scientology stuff that was going on a couple months ago. I went into some of the anti-Scientology channels out of curiosity and wrote about it here: http://www.jessyoko.com/blog...
- Jess Lee
i have my usual channel I started on in 95, never really ventured out of it because it takes up too much gtime. today we have twitter. arg. :) but why not have a #friendfeed probably on freenode? ;)
- Nicole Simon
mibbit rocks, maybe friendfeed should add an irc chat within its interface
- Kyle Weller
We use IRC at work to communicate with people across the country and so people can work from home. I also use IRC to ask questions in #Django and #Slicehost. IRC is definitely still useful to me.
