Good job, I guess, for the fundamental economic work. His op-ed writing surely doesn't deserve any awards. He's the 2nd most annoying NYT writer behind Friedman -- both are equally 'all-knowing' and patronizing in their prose style. - Christopher Galtenberg
this can't be real, can it? i didn't see this anywhere on the economist's site. i doubt a publication like that would publish something like this - Cee Bee
must be a joke, no way would they publish that - Susan Beebe
Fake! The copy I received says "Son of A...!" - Mike Lewis
fake fake fake … mine (in the UK) looks nothing like that. - dkb
Alas, mine arrived in the mail today and had a less dramatic cover ;) - Jennie Lin
fake, but really quite funny - I am curious to see how the endless cheerleaders of the free market economy will spin this meltdown - Nadine Schaeffer
Perhaps you can read the recent blog post of Prof. Gary Becker: http://www.becker-posner-blog...., it doesn't seem to me what is melting down is a free market economy, given the fact that majority of consumers in the market made their financial decision without fully understanding nor being well informed what it was. Or, in other words, fundamentally it is not free market mechanism that has caused the current problem. - Sophie Yip
of course louis gray liked this. I'd be willing to bet Scoble will like it too. - David Thomas
his bits have a "willingness to pay" attached - nice toll bridge - these are the examples of why the long tail is so very wrong as analysis of what works on-line, two cents ... - Scott Moskowitz
David, I don't believe my blog is for sale, nor is Scoble's. No ads, no revenue, no valuation! :-) - Louis Gray
18.4" screen??? Wow, guess you're not planning on actually carrying that thing around much? =) - saeba
But it's really going to be my wife's laptop. :( She needs to work from every corner of the house where the baby is. - Josh Haley
So buying a Sony laptop helps the US economy? Dell, HP or Apple are more likely to, right? :-) - Louis Gray
@saeba...It's not so much about hiking it around town or a school or anything, so we wanted a big screen. The 18.4 is really a extra wide 17". Kinda weird but cool. True 16:9 ratio for movies too :) - Josh Haley
I wouldn't mind doing my part and buying a Macbook Air!!! - Niall Connellan
Wow that's huge. It's nice it has Blu-Ray and a HDMI port. - Rodfather
Dangit LG! I guess we gotta take it back. I helped at least one American with a commission at Fry's. At least I think he was American. ;) - Josh Haley
We have no HDTV at this point, so it will have to play discs locally. Never touched a blu-ray disc before. - Josh Haley
Josh - Seriously doubt anyone knows who's making what where anymore (or to which country the money is actually flowing). The only thing I'd be sweating is those VAIO's are VERY proprietary. You're pretty much captive to Sony if anything goes wrong. Most others are staying closer to what hardware and software standards we do actually have. - Charlie Anzman
Like cars, even domestic PCs have most of their components made offshore. - Phil Wolff
via Alert Thingy
Charlie - thanks for the heads up. I chose to buy locally and have 14 days to return it if I don't like it. - Josh Haley
Agree with the local buy strongly. Hey, they're awesome boxes at current prices but pretty heavily locked down. - Charlie Anzman
I spent nearly $500 yesterday... but most of that will benefit the Canadian economy. Sorry. - Stewart Rogers
My wife bought a $300 easel for her painting yesterday. And we ate out for brunch and dinner. Just doing my part to keep myself deep in debt! - Robert Fischer
“My friend's dog has more foreign policy experience then Sarah Palin. This summer the dog spent a week a kennel with a french poodle, an irish setter and a german shephard.”
"It’s no longer the effort of publishing that is the filter. First with blogs and now with lifestreaming, publishing is so easy that we now have too much to process. As I said back in April, the new challenge is coming up with the right filter. Once you’ve pulled together all your personal and professional contacts into a single feed, how do you make sense of it all?" - Chris Messina
via Mento
I love lolcats. when my time is limited the feeds I read first include LOLcats, Ajaxian and RWW - silly but I really look forward to each LOLCat - Troy Forster
via twhirl
I enjoy LOLcats - almost always good for a chuckle. - AJ Kohn
I got drunk last November and set up http://LOLCarter.com in about two hours. Woke up the next morning and was too ashamed to promote the prank. - Rob Sterling
I love that there's a CEO for icanhascheeseburger. - Jeremy Felt
And you think not being single would change that? - Brian Sullivan
FF's food porn is making me bitter! I'm ready to get married and pop out some kids. ALL FOR FOOD - Mona N.
I am not good at cooking. I am from a nuking family(using the microwave). - Shawn aka ringking
I don't undestand how being single destroys motivation, if anything, it makes me work harder :D - Mo Kargas
My girlfriend has been out of town for about a month. I've started eating the worst foods ever. Lots of pizza and take out. It is just hard to cook for one person! - Andrew Burd
I tend to eat better when single. Having someone to eat out with is too tempting. - Paul Reynolds
LOL Yea, the "one thing". Of course, desiring a healthy mind and body should not depend on others, right? - ·[▪_▪]·
It's hard, expensive, and a pain in the EFin ass. Seriously. Plus, cooking is no fun unless it's FOR someone, not just me ;) - Mona N.
I've never known how to cook for one or two, so I've always cooked for about 6. Did it when I was single, do it now that I'm married. - Stupid Blogger (aka Tina)
I have to guesstimate with my rice cooker to make 1 or 2 cups of rice. Usually end up making 2 which is more than enough for 2 peeps - Alex "Lasagna" Scoble
But with 2 cups of rice you have enough for dinner + left over to have with butter, honey, and walnuts for breakfast in the morning. NOM! - Stupid Blogger (aka Tina)
Pets are great. My babies never cease to remind me that I'm not just cooking for myself. - ·[▪_▪]·
you should go eat a non-frozen burrito with someone and talk about star wars. actually, a pizza is better for this. - mike
There should be a blog that does Food Channel style easy cooking guides for singles and college students. - sergiooo
but it's great motivation to go out and drink... lots! lolz - .LAG
So you're saying as a married man, it's inappropriate for me to invite you to my home to eat bacon? - Louis Gray
Louis: are you saying that bacon isn't "decent food"? ;) - Andrew Burd
LG: I have a feeling I'll be stuck babysiting while you FriendFeed... HA! I'll happily babysit your bacon of the month shipment though, Louis :D - Mona N.
lol i hate to be the bearer of bad news but being married has yet to provide me with the motivation to eat good food either. - Marco (aureliusmaximus)
1/4 cube of bouillon (vegetable) and two eggs. sadly, i epitomize cheap ghetto food - Mona N.
When I was single I actually use to cook almost every night. Now that I'm married and have a couple of kids, I think I'm lazier, (busier) and less apt to cook. - Jeff P. Henderson
Mona, change that to "Not motivated to *cook* decent food" and you're spot on. I do the pre-prepared/take-out/frozen-nukable thing all the time because I cannot be bothered to cook for one. But the things I buy are healthy, often organic, etc. That said, I have been trying to set aside one "thou shalt cook" day a week to improve my spending habits. Seems to work most weeks. - Joanmarie
Um, you act like being married motivates people to eat decent food? Ramen FTW! - Cyndy
Being married to me motivates you to eat decent food because I like to cook... - Jason Carreira
Joanmarie: I don't even go out to eat decent food LOL Cyndy: So THAT'S why Pete is so cute. Ramen FTW @Michael: i like eating :D - Mona N.
and what in the HELL is wrong with frozen burritos?! :) - Tim Hoeck
Bahahaha Mona. Pete won't eat Ramen! Pete is 24 pounds of frozen pancakes and American cheese. - Cyndy
people that aren't single don't understand the food issue. I'm a student, single, and I can't cook. I eat scrambled eggs or pancakes all the time and don't work out enough. Not being single means that the other person will motivate you to either eat healthier or help you in the kitchen. I hope, maybe... - Phillip Jeffrey
If you live alone long enough, everything gets boring after a while foodwise. Then again, it was the same when I lived with my family - there are only so many types of meals one can cook. Best thing to do is go mad every once in a while and experiment. Let the kitchen be your lab! :) - Rai
I've had the dropped calls on alot of phones, the resets stopped for me after 2.0.1, and I'm not sure what you mean by an "immature OS", but I prrefer it to other smart phones. - Blackopsmanners
Has everybody had this many problems? I haven't had too much wrong with mine except for problems with visual voicemail, and that's not available anywhere else - I'd be curious to read what people have to say in comments. - Sanjay
The only disappointment I've had with the 2nd generation iPhone has been the GPS which rarely gives me the blue dot. - Akiva Moskovitz
Even with the 2.0.2 update I still get better 3G connectivity on my Windows Mobile phone in the same spots than I do with the iPhone. I have tons of dropped calls a day. UI gets sluggish and barely usable (like writing emails or sending text messages). Like Chris, I often have to do hard resets just to get hte phone to work. - Brandon LeBlanc
via twhirl
I agree. And mine crashed the day I bought it >:( - Jax Dragon
You must be one of the 2%, 'cause mine rocks... either that or user error - Jason Carreira
Don't know about the actual phone, but on my iPhone 1.0 the OS bugs have been about fixed. Also I think that at&t service is crappy. Were I live there is like no service. Also I think Apple should have set up their own towers. - Daniel
I've had none of these problems with my 3G. Must be a hardware defect afflicting a small population. - Kevin Fox
I have a love/hate relationship with mine. Not sure what I could replace it with though. there's just nothing that compares IMO - Jesse Stay
mine hasn't crashed since the first update - battery is fine for my usage - applications just work (though some do indeed crash) - it definitely has less dropped calls than my last phone - Frederic
Wow. I've got the BlackBerry Curve and have enjoyed it lots. the boss is buying me a 2.0 iPhone. I've got this fear that I'm going to hate it. - Chris Brogan
The signal is a bit weak compared to my last phone, but no major problems. I love the applications. - Charles
Why is it if people don't experience these problems themselves they easily shrug it off as a problem "afflicting" a small portion of iPhone users. Because you don't have any problems hardly means its not impacting a good amount of people. - Brandon LeBlanc
via twhirl
@chris brogan same here. I love my Curve, the only issue is that sometimes it freezes. - Phillip Jeffrey
@Brandon because Steve Jobs came out and said it was a problem affecting 2% of phones - Jason Carreira
To paraphrase Winston Churchill: It has been said that the iPhone is the worst form of smart phone - except all the others that have been tried. - invariant
My dad still has a great rotary dial. Has never crashed in 30 years. Next... - rob
As far as I know, my mother still has a rotary phone hanging in the garage. It can receive calls but, unsurprisingly, it can't make them. - Akiva Moskovitz
HATER! EVERYBODY DON'T BUY AN I-PHONE WHAT HIS NAME SAYS ITS BAD - orionstarr
Never dropped a call here, though I live in the city of AT&T's former international headquarters. - Robert Haas
The iPhone is the best smartphone, hands down. The problem here is that you expect it to be like all other apple products...near perfect. In the cell phone market, this is not really possible yet because apple does not own the telecommunications company. - Bob Blunk
I don't have problems with dropped calls, but 3G sucks in San Francisco on it. - Thomas Hawk
Absolutely LOVED my 1st gen iPhone with 1.1.4 firmware. Ever since the firmware upgrade ... suckage. Slow apps, frequent crashes, poor battery life ... that has NOTHING to do with cell coverage or network. It's ALL on Apple. *booo* - tj hanton
I'm trying to figure out what smart-phone to buy http://is.gd/1Nx3, so I'd appreciate any comments/hints/recommendations. - Alex Popescu
I love my blackberry. Never drop calls (even in the mountains), qwerty keyboard, awesome. I never actually "surf" on my phone so I'm perfectly happy with the browser for my immediate needs (ie - Wikipedia for bar arguments) - George Smith
I love my blackberry 8150 pearl also. surfing is great...Google apps work beautifully. email always right there...good speakerphone..no complaints1 - John Foss
Gotta say I disagree. I've been using the iPhone 3G for a month and am pretty happy. I haven't had many problems with it. It's not perfect, but I'm glad I switched from my Blackberry. - Mark Logan
I'm a blackberry owner too and want to gloat about what a wonderful phone I have. It's a 8300 curve with no dropped calls, it has a Internet browser that isn't 3G but that's why I also carry a really nice iPod touch. The blackberry operating system works really great, with no problems at all. I also have push email. And I got google maps, gmail all on the phone. :) - Colide81 (James)
I was REALLY happy with the iPhone v1. The 3G has been lass reliable, but I love the apps. Updated to 2.0.2 yesterday and so far so good. Fresh issues aside, I'd never switch back to BlackBerry. I love my iPhone dearly. - Steve Isaacs
The new iPhone sheen is wearing off for me, too. I neglected to charge mine last night so now I have a dead phone. The battery life is poor. Reception not good, either. My screen requires constant cleaning. I'd say as a pocket computer it's very cool, but as a phone it's debateable. - Jason Kaneshiro
The styling is awesome, the screen is fantastic (when they don't use a bad supplier) and the browser is pretty good. The rest of the functionality? I prefer my Winmo phones which are pretty mature. The HTC Diamond Pro should bring it all together and not force me onto AT&. - Soulhuntre
And as its from Apple I bet you paid a tonne for it? I'm very happy to never have owned or desired to own anything from Apple. I'll give it to them their marketing department is brilliant but I seem to find their products are over-hyped versions of other products/unoriginal features put into a new box, more expensive and lesser quality. - Kol Tregaskes
my housemate has a 3G and it's UI is annoyingly sluggish. I used it briefly and it was immediately evident. He hates that part of it. - Chieze Okoye
We're making this way of working our norm in our Emerging Media program at my university (and require it of our students) but boy does it go against the grain in an institution that just cannot part with paper everything. They have a huge warehouse full of - you guessed it - paper. - Dean Terry
I love cloud computing and tools that allow you to work more flexibly. Being chained to a Corp desk job with enterprise network stuff is my idea of hell. - Sally Church

Aren't they? I looked twice to make sure they were real. So ... imagine a hot air balloon tour of Holland when the tulips are in season. - Chris Baskind
They look like textiles. That's cool. - Abby Martin
Good link, Ken! We need to find more ... - Chris Baskind
Is this where they grow plasticine haha??? - Joe Dawson
I've always loved tulips. I would LOVE to fly over & see something like this. I'll have to check whether anything like this can be seen on Google Earth. - Kamilah Gill
Way Cool. I'd love to see them up close. Believe it or not they used to grow bulb flowers like that in Fremont California of all places. But the fields and greenhouses are now long gone, replaced by condos and high tech office buildings.... - Jeff P. Henderson
I remember how fascinated I was as a child when we drove through tulip farms in Holland. It was amazing. - ※Fu※
We've got some big tullip farms around Holland, Mich, not far from here, but like that is only a town mimicing a country, those farms do not compare to this - Michael W. May

There's a similar patch of bliss in Lompoc, California *just north of Santa Barbara. - Susan Beebe
My favorite. We put in 1K bulbs in our beds for a spring display. - Mrsth
A thousand bulbs? Wow. I hope you post pictures the next time they're in bloom. - Chris Baskind
