Okay, what I mean is are you using your iPhone to also check your work email (I'm going to assume via Exchange but I could be wrong - don't know if you use MS at your place) and other internal network functions? Anecdotally I have heard of some sys admins resisting attempts to change their policies to allow iPhones to be used in the same way that Blackberries and other smartphones have been used to date. Sysadmins will pretty much always resist change - as a group, we're very change averse - especially if it doesn't benefit us directly. - Andrew Garrett

I've never known a sys admin who _wasn't_ change averse. I can understand why but it often leads to unhelpful blanket attitudes, rather than listening to what it is that the end user needs/wants. YMMV obviously, and you would have your own views having sat on both sides of the fence. - Shane Perris

It is pretty crappy. To accuse someone of using a telephoto to spy on his employees is a crappy charge and not something that one ought to get kicked out of a museum for. If the SF MOMA doesn't want their employees that sit in the atrium appearing in photos then they should not have a "photography is allowed policy" per their website in their atrium. Oh, and one more thing to all of you that are trying to make this an issue of Hawk's or Blint's character, I think the real issue stems from trumped up "security" meant to keep us "safe." All sorts of power-tripping security guards and police have become accustomed to people immediately accepting restricted rights with the magic words "post 9/11." The reason it is such a hot-button issue is that most people have not pushed back against the Patriot act and all it (theoretically) allows law enforcement to restrict. Before making such proclamations, you might want to do a little homework. Did you even talk to MobileMe tech support? http://www.apple.com/support/m.... There might have been a simple fix had you checked. I've been using MobileMe since July 18th; I sync three Macs and my iPhone and haven't had any major issues. Albert: a simple fix? Google Calendar has been going for six hours recreating my calendar so far. This was a problem with Outlook. I have 8,400+ calendar entries. It's only recreated 2,400 of them so far. Sigh. Macs don't even have Outlook so, of course you haven't had problems yet. Hope nothing bad happens on your XP machine. I'd back up just in case. At least my calendar will be back tomorrow cause I had a backup. - Robert Scoble

That is, there could have been something Apple could have done to restore your calendar entries, assuming you synced your calendars to MobileMe. That would have been worth a shot. Again, we don't know the culprit here, between Outlook, Vista, MobileMe and whatever else is installed on your machine. I didn't have any problems with calendars on MobileMe, but it decided one morning to delete all of my contacts bar three. That was the point at which I decided I'd move back to using Exchange, which Just Works on the iPhone, and (via Entourage) on my Mac. And amazingly, I had people trying to tell me it wasn't Apple's fault, despite it being Apple technology, running Apple software, on an Apple machine! - Ian Betteridge

Not worth the very limited utility given the fact that it won't sync up with Google Calendar, either. I got MobileMe through my brother's family plan, and still had to buy Spanning Sync to do that. And I have to keep the intermediary computer on (my home iMac) because it doesn't sync OTA. There's got to be something better than this... - Jason Menayan

Had the initial trouble with MobleMe during the .Mac switch and have stopped using it - even though I paid good money for the service. On the flip side, I'm finding Live Mesh to be surprisingly more useful and it's a free "Tech Preview." Go figure. - Paul Dain

Chris i have to disagree with you on this one. I truly like twhirl, it is so comfortable and easy to use, saves many open FF windows and lets you control FriendFeed, Twitter, identi.ca and seesmic in one place. The only glitch for me is the entering events sound, it is an ear killer, i hope loic and the guys will change it to a softer version. - Nir Ben Yona

I absolutely love twhirl for it's design (looks slick IMO) and for the very fact that it allows me to tweet so much more efficiently. I like the AIR platform as well, so it's a plus that it was built on that. I do agree with others who have complained about it's network issues, but I'm not sure how much of that is twhirls fault and how much of it is twitters. - Ian Mikutel
