Took Scott to sleep for his morning nap, now studying some Chinese characters while sipping a coffee. Inside, with airco on!
It's so incredibly hot in Shanghai. Wanted to read a book in my garden but it's just too hot to be outside. Luckily there is still the pool!
@dawei_nl Let's call it a baby jetlag. You get to sleep 2-3 hours at a time 2 or 3 times a night (if you're lucky).
@elliottng Managed to sleep again from 5:30 to 8, when my other baby woke me up. A part of life every young father has to go through!
Woke up at 3:30 and could not sleep anymore, so did some emails and read RSS feeds. Now it's 5:30, going to give sleeping a second try.

The WSJ writes that Amazon.com is blocked in China, but it's actually working fine and faster than ever in Shanghai. http://blogs.wsj.com/chinajo...

Good morning Shanghai! Could not sleep anymore after Elaine's last feeding, so decided to get up at 4 AM and do some work.
Had meeting with the Futures Group of the Singapore government, talking about trends on the Internet and in online games. Interesting talk.

Group of 22 Dutch students in my office from a Dutch technical university
Putting some slides together for a presentation to group of university students. Not good timing, but I agreed to do presentation months ago
11 PM in Shanghai, time to shut down my laptop. Spent too many hours working again today, but also did some sports & spent time with family.
Next weekend I'll be outside China for a few days, I look forward to using the normal Twitter interface and Facebook again.
To all my recent Twitter followers: because of the Twitter block in China I am not able to easily check you out or add you at the moment.
@aqz Yes, that's the reason. Trying to control the information flow.
@sagebrennan Don't give them ideas Sage! That would be major trouble, although I'm sure people will find a way around that as well.
Great... Now Facebook is blocked as well in China. First YouTube, then Twitter, what's next?
Drinking a double espresso while thinking through a strategic business decision.
Back in the office now, looking at long todo list and agenda filled with meetings. Exit Twitter for now, time for a coffee and first meeting
Will not put problems we had on Twitter or Blogger this time, but probably send mail to head of consular section with points for improvement
Had coffee afterward with people from economic section of consulate, consul-general also dropped by. Told him bit about the problems we had.
Went to Dutch consulate this morning for passport for Elaine and new visa for my wife. Always a frustrating experience.
@gtowna Well, I have a gym in my house, so I just need to go two floors down after getting up. Not enough time to arrive stretched :-)
@gtowna It normally takes me at least 10 min to really get into the run, but then it gets lot easier. Eyes are fine.
Started day with run in the gym with Michael Jackson blasting from speakers. Start of run always difficult in AM but feeling great afterward
Finished draft of my keynote for opening Academic Year at Maastricht University (Aug. 31, 2009). Time to relax a bit before going to bed.
