FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
So, after 1.5 hours of washing, chopping, and mincing, we have pico de gallo. Tomato, purple onion, poblano, jalapeno, bell pepper, fresh garlic, lime juice, sea salt, fresh ground pepper. Oh, and of course: CILANTRO =D This is the biggest bowl we own, about a foot in diameter. It was so full we had to mix it by hand.

Oh, and click through to pic #3. There's a surprise there for you. - FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
So, when can I bathe in this? EDIT: HOLY CRAP HE HAS A FACE - Mike Nayyar
I HAZ A DAVE PIC. - Derrick
Wow that looks amazingly delish! - BEX
I wish I liked cilantro. I'm a supertaster and to me it tastes like soap :( - Tendonitis' Bitch
Take a bite of cilantro by itself and tell me it doesn't taste like soap. - Dawn
Ha! Gunny beat me to it. You're so right, Gunny! - Dawn
We made it tonight because it's better once it marries in the fridge for a while. I'm planning on setting aside a bunch and we'll have it with shrimp mixed in for dinner later this week. - FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
DAVE EXISTS. HAI DAVE! - Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
BEX is talking about Dave. - ld
LOL! He's a cutie, ain't he? - FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
Derrick could hit it. - ld
That looks great, Tina (and Dave, Hi Dave!). - Trish R
OMG that looks SO GOOD! - Her Lindsay-ness
We couldn't resist: we ate about a cup of it right of the bat. Dave almost drooled into the big vat of pico... In hindsight, perhaps he should have, then we wouldn't have to share it! - FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
tee hee - BEX
nom nom! - BeeLing
NOM...LOVE IT - Anna Haro
LOVE the pico. I can taste it all the way from here! And HI DAVE! - Josh Haley
Thus falls dead the rumor that I was married to a figment of my imagination... - FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
cilantro rocks. - j1m
Dave looks like one of those morphs, of me and Worthington... you sure can pick em! ;) Yummy. The salsa, that is. I'm so confused... - Michael W. May
That looks phenomenal, Tina! - Mona Nomura
Hi Dave, mind if I help myself to some of that pico? :D - Helen Sventitsky
Nom!! - Ian May
If we ask nicely will Dave come say hello? - DGentry
Cilantro is apparently one of those things you either love or hate. I don't find it tastes soapy, but it's definitely a peculiar herbal flavor. And Denton, I'll ask him =) - FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
awesome! i need a chopping block just like that built into my counter. - Carlos Ayala
Looks delicious. - Christian (Simply X)
whoa, that looks good! - vijay
Carlos, I really want butcher block counter tops (REALLY WANT). However, now I'm making do with this 2ft by 2ft rolling island with a butcher block top. Actual end grain wood, and the little hopper where you scrape the trimmings is amazing. We got it at Home Depot and they still carry something similar. - FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
That would have been good with the carne asada I grilled last night. - Jeremy Brooks
oh that looks yummy! - (jeff)isageek
What a good use of plant based material in your diet! (Looks yummy) - susan mernit
When I get home tonight it'll be time to make guacamole. Mine is rather easy: smash up some avocados and stir in some pico de gallo. Done *drool* I'm not going to have room for the actual dinner we're cooking... - FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
mmmm guacamole!!!! my wife makes some good guac...now I want some :) - (jeff)isageek
looks delicious - mikepk
Butcher block ain't cheap. And they take a lot of maintenance. Hello? Lazy? - Josh Haley
Actually, it's not all that bad, Josh. I priced it out and I can get 2.5 inch thick butcher block counters for less than granite. Apply tung oil on a schedule to keep it clean and stain resistant. If it gets burned/scratched/stained you just sand it a bit, apply more tung oil, and you're good to go. But this particular island? Less than $200 at Home Depot and it has a drawer, 2 shelves, and a rack on the side. Worth every penny. - FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
O hai Dave! The Pico looks beautiful. So beautiful that I wouldn't want to eat it... for about a second. Awesome! - Jim Hearts FF
Appetizing !! - Praveen Vasudev
Mm.. Yummy! - Nia
want some - Manuela
Yum! - David Cook
I see why this was so big now. Great photos! - Kamilah Gill
That's looks good :-) - YoYo_P
YUUUUUUUMMMMMMMMMM!!!!! - Susan Beebe
Oh my!!! Pico de gallo ... yes please :D - Brandon
Oh and HAI Dave!! *waves and steals the salsa!* - Susan Beebe
Your pico de gallo looks awesome! I've never made this much at home. - Ha3rvey (obviously wrong)
That looks fantastically tasty! That's a lot of pico. We probably make fresh pico de gallo 3 - 5 times a week and we'd still never make that much of it. Will you guys eat all of it this week. - Anika
We made this for the cook out we had tonight. After sitting in the fridge overnight it decreased in volume by about a third, which is expected. The flavor is better too. Between the party and the guac I made, about a third of that is now gone. We're going to add cold shrimp to the rest and have that for dinner tomorrow: just a big bowl of it. - FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
Show off! :D - sofarsoShawn
Can you utilize a food processor, or is this a chopping only situation? - Eric @ CS Techcast
:O what are you gringos doing? pico de gallo is not a salad! you're supposed to put it on your tacos... - Mario Romero
poor laowai - ocde.cn
Mario, we'll just call this gringa salad then =) And like Sean said, you can use a food processor for the onion and cilantro, but the tomatoes turn into mush in my experience. We like ours very chunky (as evidenced by the picture), so the smooth texture from the food processor doesn't work. - FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
What does it taste like with the bell pepper in it? I've never had bell pepper in mine before. - Anika
I like adding them more for the crunch than for the flavor, actually. They hold up well to the lime juice and don't get mushy. A good flavorful bell pepper, though, adds a nice sweetness that offsets the tart and hot really well. - FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
We don't normally use garlic in our pico, I think I will try it next time, though. - Michelle Martinez
Normally we just do garlic powder because I'm lazy. But after all that chopping, what's a few garlic cloves? And truth be told, I put garlic in everything that's not a dessert or breakfast item. - FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
Pico rocks - mjc
Tina, et. al. - Here's a good salsa recipe for you: Drain and blend a can of pineapple chunks with a couple of canned chipotle peppers in adobo sauce. Sweet, smoky and hot at the same time. Rocks with chips or on any kind of grilled chicken or fish. - Kevin Pedraja
Vezquex: God of FF
I have a real mystery. A number of URLs without any TLD are resolving for me. For example, http://fmd/ http://fml/ http://fmk/ http://fmca/ http://fmc/ http://gafd/ http://gafa/. These probably won't work for you. Any idea how this is happening? Is it converting the letters to an IP address?
Yes it's resolving to an IP address (like is normal with 'localhost', for example.) Check your /etc/hosts file. Otherwise maybe your isp or some proxy in between. - Mario Romero
are you using opendns? - ǝuǝƃnǝ
So it works on my school's connection too. My hosts file is normal. I don't use OpenDNS as far as I know. I'm curious how far this reaches and how consistent it is. There is a potential that people are sitting on million dollar URLs and don't even know it! - Vezquex: God of FF
OK, I think I know what's going on. These are *.net domains. If this works everywhere and people find out about this, the value of *.net domains will skyrocket. - Vezquex: God of FF
But it's not always true. For example, http://fml/ is different than http://fml.net/ . Hmm. - Vezquex: God of FF

Help, I’m clueless about Web Service scalability - http://scobleizer.com/2008...
Scoble: get them to talk about each of their stacks and why they like them, with as much detail as possible. I know ff, for example, uses a lot of python and java, for which parts of the system do they use java? what do they use as datastore/db? etc.. In any case, sounds like an interesting panel. - Mario Romero

With no Internet and no 24 hour place, I just watched the Original Star Wars Trilogy again. I love love LOVE all three and can't BELIEVE it was made in the 70's / 80's. Blows any Sci-fi out of the water, seriously. - Mona Nomura

Mona - one qualifies to the possibility only if one has ever tried to move objects telekinetically. <Eyes rolling> - Parth Awasthi
Parth... *cough* - Johnny Worthington
I can't. But watching all three back to back FTW. My heart still pounds thinking of scenes from the movies. Every character, every scene, the special effects, cinematography, the soundtrack, to feeling emotion from droids. DROIDS! Just a beep or sounds combined with their slight movements make me feel waht they feel. Vader - is such a complex character and I can feel what he's feeling by the slight tilt of his helmet too. Lucas is genius. - Mona Nomura
I'm annoyed that Episodes I-III weren't done better. Did anyone notice how the Anakin in Episodes I-III (forgot the actor's name) looks like the Anakin that showed his face at the end of Return of the Jedi? - Mona Nomura
:D The Schwartz! - Brandon
I can talk about Star Wars all night. - Mona Nomura
in Episode I, I can't remember the kids name, but in II, and III it was Hayden Christenson. - Joe Pierce
Mona, they changed it to Hayden with the re-release. The original guy (who played Vader) was there before hand. DO NOT WANT... Since Anakin was back to the light, should be his spirit at time of death... - Johnny Worthington
Wrong thread. You are tainting this pure thread, Joe! ;) - Mona Nomura

BTW, won't that also tell you how high you threw the phone, assuming you're throwing it straight up... - David Sifry from twhirl
but when it hits the floor and shatters, how will you get the data?! better call in Geek Squad. - MG Siegler
@Chris, I think accelerometers measure acceleration, and there's no change in acceleration at the top of the throw. (Then again, I made it to class exactly once during three quarters of physics in college.) - Jim Norris
A must app. Even though that it is crazy…funny *smile*. - ivanandersson
Of course there is acceleration during the throw... constant acceleration. - Mario Romero
That is so cool. Someone write this for the iPhone, please. Though whether I would actually throw my iPhone in the air is another question entirely. - Roberto Bonini
I once left my phone on my car's roof. I wonder if this app could be hacked to prevent that (or at least prevent me from driving off) :-) - John μller
Great app... should incrementally increase phone sales as people smash their phones and have to replace them. - Jason Carreira

Sorry for getting the names wrong, it was very difficult to concentrate in there last night - Jeremiah Owyang
Zero 7 is amazing. - John Samuelson
Great list (from the comments too). I'll add Bibel Gilberto and +1 for Tosca. Stereolab seems to fit. Dimitri from Paris might be a small stretch. I tend to throw Land of Loops into that mix, but it might be a bit wacky for some. Amon Tobin is a little faster/heavier, but still very jazzy. I've missed Zero 7 somehow, have to check them out. - Jason Wehmhoener
You could also add Mocean Worker, Vampire Weekend, Stephane Pompougnac (sp?) and Chris Joss to that list. - Harrison Wise
Also, everyone Kruder & Dorfmeister remixed, especially Lamb and Bomb the Bass. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki... - Jason Wehmhoener

Someone made a comment about the quality of my shared items from Google and called it 'a blog within itself'. I'd love to do something more with my shared-items-as-publication, but oh the can of worms. What IF someone's collected media becomes strong by itself?
Check out Eyebeam's Reblog software. Also, Scoble's shared items feed is more useful to me than Techmeme, imho. - Steve Lynch from Alert Thingy
One example of a strong curator is Anarchaia: http://anarchaia.org/ - Adewale Oshineye
I've been thinking a lot of that. I started using the Shared Items a lot more when I saw that it was being archived http://www.google.com/reader... The URL sucks srsly tho. It'd be great if you could map it to a subdomain or something. - Clay Newton
I kinda like the one click that I do in Google reader.. I've thought of reblogging but that made me feel like a lazy ass thinking it's too much work. Heh. Anarchaia's is nice tho - Eric Rice
wow, that's cool Eric! I would imagine that you'd produce a nice collection of goodies. Perhaps those could be aggregated into a feed "service" and displayed somewhere for conversation/community. - Susan Beebe
Better to point people to the original than republish. Sharing here or in G Reader works well for that, so why do something more? - Annie Boccio
Annie: because it could be a magazine unto itself. It's something coherent, it's my brain as editorial director. I don't HAVE to 'share/publish' the stuff, but I do so because it's important, and also a bookmarker for me. There are those that don't want to run all over hell and back chasing the originals. That's the value in having an editor, or um, 'filter' is the PC term now. - Eric Rice
I like using the Friendfeed bookmarklet when I feel the urge to share a little bit more than just the title of the post. It really only takes a couple seconds longer than the single click in greader. (I still do the greader share for some less interesting things though) - Jason Wehmhoener
Jason, yeah I feel more immediacy when I click the "Share on FF" thing than if I share in Reader. I have bookmarklets for both, but apparently, I'm making an editorial decision. Why did I share on FF the article about Apple DRM, instead of Noting it in Google Reader? My gut just sorta told me to. - Eric Rice
Making a new thread on this... - Eric Rice
I find myself gravitating towards FF over GR sharing. It's just happening. - Sean McBride
@melmcbride: Love the term "Feed DJ's." Eric: The person bringing/sharing/aggregating an amazing assortment of news usually has more "top of mind" with me than the actual news source. - Jason Evangelho
@melmcbride, I want to be an Information Disc Jockey. Where are my Information Discs? xD No, seriously, I like Feed DJ, I can relate. - Jason Wehmhoener
lol Feed DJ is an awesome term. @Eric Rice: why is it an "or" choice? your greader notes get imported here no? - Mario Romero
Eric, how would that work exactly? You can't just republish other people's work on another site without permission. - Annie Boccio
@mario I dunno, that's what I'm questioning.. why do I choose some items over others to share here (NOW) vs. greader (later, lag, etc).. @Annie, well, but it IS published without permission. Look at this link: http://www.google.com/reader... and god bless all the DEMAND FOR FULL RSS, because you don't have to leave and read elsewhere. But see, I'm not DOING it, it's just the structure. Organizing it coherently and selling ads against, sure, that's a bit diff. - Eric Rice
Annie Boccio: You can if they offer a feed for syndication, that's what they're for and that's what google reader and the rest do. The permission is implicit in the open feed. - Mario Romero
This is also related to the big Seesmic discussion. Seesmic isn't private, it's private to use. It has functionality for non-public communication. Any video can live anywhere, be linked to, and access to that never comes close to the TOS. If it is so important Seesmic vids never leave Seesmic, then there needs to be a feature to make videos un-embeddable, like Youtube. Of course, that's a technical solution to a social issue but at least intent is there. Until then, the TOS is completely moot outside. - Eric Rice
Eric, I've been developing a project for a bit now to create a virtual blog within Google Reader. I need to sit down and map out all the ramifications but it will be interesting if I can pull it off. - Phil G
J.Phil: Maybe an RSS importer with some layout properties, like Greasemonkey or something. - Eric Rice
Well, that's the thing, I could see it more as "the oracle speaks" sort of deal. Perhaps a web site with a google talk URL to add the blog to your friends list in greader, or maybe not even that --- 'seed' it with a bunch of people you trust, maybe work out some sort of arrangment where multiple people can blog, make it viral. The only way it shows up is through shared items. - Phil G
if you like, I am happy to chat with you about it, pglockner on google talk - Phil G
Ah,my head! I see what you're saying, but I still don't see much of a benefit over sharing in FF or gReader. I guess there are some who would go to yet another site just to see what Eric is reading these days... :) - Annie Boccio
Actually I find myself using GReader and going to interesting posts at their native location and then sharing to FF. Just need to watch the time thingie... - Mark Forman
Annie - well, it's still conceptual, so to speak, but yeah.. I hear ya. I think the viral element would be the kicker. I'm not a marketer but I could find a good hook, either a dynamite blogger or contest or target it at the perfect demigraphic, I think it could be a lot of fun. - Phil G
I *love* your shared items. I think it's a blog. I think that if it were its own standalone destination for conversations (maybe just do the friendfeed integration), I'd be on it all the time. Better than BoingBoing, and no, not as a 1:1 example of the content. I've been digging it for months and months. - Chris Brogan
After I slept on it, I think I use the Friendfeed Share if I think it will have more activity 'now' and maybe has a little urgency. Since my Google Shares still come up here, that's more of a River of Me (lol runs through it), and that might no warrant discussion. It shows up later (and around elsewhere like Facebook). I need a bot to keep track on what things I share here :) - Eric Rice

Well done - the hard work starts now! Our youngest was in NICU for three weeks (he was 4 10 and had to be delivered seven weeks early as my wife had a life threatening condition), but the great thing about NICU baby's (well in the UK anyway) is that they get trained to sleep!!! - Andy Davies

Congratulations Grey family. "Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies—God damn it, you've got to be kind." - Clare Dibble

Best concerts ever attended: Underworld (x2), Depeche Mode (x2), DJ Tiesto (x2), Crystal Method, Moby, Chemical Bros., Paul Oakenfold, ATB, Radiohead... and you?
chemical brothers, LTJ Bukem, Scuba :) - David Petar Novakovic from twhirl
#1: Neutral Milk Hotel; #2: Magnetic Fields; #3: Songs:Ohia; #4: Mountain Goats; #5: Wedding Present; #6: Ramones/Violent Femmes/They Might Be Giants. Ask me again in an hour & it'll be different... - Trent Olson
Clapton - Tris Hussey from twhirl
Depeche Mode (x5), The Smiths, Cure, U2, David Bowie, Peter Frampton (OMG I am so freakin' old!), Rod Stewart, Aretha Franklin, Elvis Costello, B-Movie, Thomas Dolby, English Beat, B-52s, Thompson Twins, Bryan Adams, Eagles, Phil Collins, Clapton, Fleetwood Mac... ok that's ridiculous (so cal 70s, 80s and 90s = lots of music!). Now I just work all the time and remember the good ol' days on my iPod. - Susan Beebe
James Brown, Sawyer Brown, Tim McGraw, Emerson Drive, Brooks & Dunn - Jeff Quinton

Van Halen, Bruce Springsteen, Def Leppard (x2), New Order, Pet Shop Boys (x3), Queen - Prolific Programmer
#1) U2 w. Pearl Jam (Vertigo tour 2007); #2) Pearl Jam w. Neil Young (1997); #3) Bootsie Collins (1997); #4) U2 (Zoo TV tour 1991); #5) Pink Floyd (1988). Like Trent, in an hour it might be different.... - Brian Daniel Eisenberg
Amen to that Chris. Still a good show though. - Brian Daniel Eisenberg
Trent, your #1 sends me into a fit of jealousy that has no equal. My #1 would probably be wandering into some random bar in New Orleans long ago where B.B. King had randomly showed up an hour before and surprised the band, asked to sit in, and backed them for a couple hours; #2 and #3 would be Pink Floyd; #4: Mountain Goats (x3); #5: Depeche Mode; #6: Beastie Boys; #7: Squirrel Nut Zippers; #8: Flogging Molly; #9: Squarepusher; #10: Infected Mushroom (x2). - Akiva Moskovitz
I didn't attend any concerts. - Morton Fox
Roger Waters, Depeche Mode, Soda Stereo, Paul Van Dyk and Sesto Sento in the Icamole desert - Mario Romero
Akiva: I know, I was profoundly lucky to see NMH while they existed. In a small club in Portland, OR, no less, where I could not believe they all fit on the tiny stage. (And not to brag, except, yes, I guess I'm bragging, but I suppose I should have said #4 Mountain Goats (x6). Unless waking up in the morning after the show to chat with John about hockey counts as well? I'm not sure.) - Trent Olson
slightly unrelated: Can I just voice my appreciation for Louis Gray's topic suggestions on friendfeed? Louis, you're like the Bill Mahr of ff... - Trent Olson
Trent, you have made of me a life-long enemy. I will demonstrate my rage by subscribing to you. Take THAT. Meanwhile, I want to add Godspeed You Black Emperor (x2). Can't believe I forgot them. And, not to reveal too much, Greg On Earth and Hux Flux. *cough* - Akiva Moskovitz
The Black Crowes performing a Sunday morning revival at a blues festival. Amazing. - Michael Carter
Akiva, I have responded to your subscription with...a subscription right back! Wa-ha! Agreed on the Godspeed, good call. Also, can't believe you haven't seen Stereolab? They've only been touring relentlessly for what, 20 years? And yes, the Fall are fantastic live. <thread degrades into music geek one-upping contest /> - Trent Olson
1)Paul McCartney 2)Van Halen w/David L. Roth 3)Aerosmith - Chris Rossini
The hour isn't up, but I'll add Tortoise, Destroyer, and the Dirty Three opening for John Cale. - Trent Olson
Trent, I've had several opportunities to see them both but either life gets in the way or, more likely, I have no friends that are interested in any music that isn't psytrance, electro house, etc. If there are real instruments involved, they start looking uneasy. SORRY, LOUIS, TOTALLY RUINING YOUR THREAD HERE. - Akiva Moskovitz
Who saw Tom Waits??? And @Chris... I didn't add a single Dead show. That's an event, not a concert. ;) - Cyndy
(This is exactly why ff needs direct messaging) - Trent Olson
(Yep.) - Akiva Moskovitz
Trent, I don't think they designed FriendFeed for this purpose (straight chat room/discussion forum style chat), but it seems to be very popular so it will need to figure it out. - Robert Seidman
Hmmm...gTalk status replacing tweets...interesting - Dan Covington
@Dan...it was Louis' idea to begin with :) - Trent Olson
@Robert: I understand that, but take an item like this. Sure, threading the comments will help readability, but I'd like the opportunity to spawn a whole new topic with Akiva (whether that's reciprocated is moot :) ). Some form of DMing would be helpful...I don't personally think it should be private messaging, but spawning a new topic would be useful. - Trent Olson
In no particular order: U2 (Under a Blood Red Sky), Live (Throwing Copper), Charlatans UK (Up To Our Hips), Blur (Leisure @ 9:30 Club, DC), Midnight Oil (Blue Sky Mining). - AJ Kohn
Pavarotti, Jimi Hendrix, James Taylor, B.B. King, Little Richard, KISS - Chris Baskind
The Velvet Underground, My Bloody Valentine, Queens of the Stone Age, The Hives, Ramones - Sean McBride
@AJ: sooo jealous about the U2...was it actually at the Red Rocks show?? - Trent Olson
David Bowie (MSG around 1986), Talking Heads at Forest Hills Tennis Stadium, the Who (MSG 1979), Ramones (CBGBs), Violent Femmes (bar in Albany, NY circa 1985), Lou Reed (Bottom Line) - Barry Graubart
@Trent: sadly no, not Red Rocks. Saw them in Philly. Still pretty amazing, wish I'd caught them again on Joshua Tree. - AJ Kohn
Flaming Lips, Cake, Kings of Leon, The Decemberists, OK GO (x2), The Raconteurs, Eagles of Death Metal, Violent Femmes (x3)... - keif from twhirl
Counting crows, alanis, kings of leon ,u2 - Tim Wright
@keif: jealous of Cake and Femmes. Did you see Femmes on THE tour? - AJ Kohn
Punk band called Cletus knew how to bring down a basement in the 90's ;) ... Counting Crows (was Adams birthday, we all sang to him... plus i was near Baltimore (Merriweather Post Pavilion)... so when he sang the line "raining in Baltimore" we all got to go ballistic... that was fun... but nothing tops the day long HFStival (by WHFS in Washington D.C.) with Crystal Method, Green Day, Foo Fighters, Everclear, Harvey Danger, Bare Naked Ladies, b-52s, Marcy Playground, Soul Coughing, Scott Weiland... - Matt Shaulis
U2, Beth Orton - Clare Dibble
July 2002, John Mayer in Central Park, NYC. Pouring rain. Everyone put their umbrellas down so not to block anyone else's view. And John sang "Covered in Rain" - Dan Hsiao
