While most marketers recognize the importance of social media, many say they don’t understand it enough to integrate it correctly into their marketing strategies — and, those who say they understand it lack experience. Most marketers lack confidence in social media. "Currently it seems the top three services fighting for the “real time feed” crown are Twitter, FriendFeed and Facebook. Dave Winer recently asked what FriendFeed would be if it didn’t pull in Twitter - the answer is simple: a service with very little activity. But for all three services, I find that there is nothing but confusion over the structure of how the three services work together and can imagine that mainstream Internet users face the same issues. I will use Friendfeed in the examples below because it faces the most mainstream issues but there are similar issues with all three services."

It seems that commentators consider they are fighting it but I think FF has alot of different things to offer like trending information that has had lots of comments or likes. Neither Twitter nor Facebook does this. You could argue that twitter has hashtags and the search but this is limited. Just adding a comment makes the FF experience very different. Sure there is duplication at the...

I recall seeing Leo Laporte strongly disagree with that sentiment. There's plenty of activity on Friendfeed, and if it didn't have all the noise from twitter it would be easier to see the good content. The commentators aren't fighting it, but some of the bloggers are. There's a huge fragmentation and disconnect in the discussions on given items, and what seems to suffer the most is the...

I’m going to pause here, right at the beginning of my riveting article about attention, and ask you to please get all of your precious 21st-century distractions out of your system now. It's wild how an article about distraction and over-stimulation is about 900,000 words long.

Love your comment Brad about the length of the article - obvious the author didn't have an issue with distraction. Perhaps just with verbosity! :)

@Karen If over-stimulation has benefits, I sure don't understand them - but then again, maybe I should read the entire article before I say that ;-) I personally believe that over-stimulation is contributing to our ever-growing society of ADDers.

Although, content is relatively easy to produce most people don't. The 1:9:90 rule says that 90% of all users are consumers, 9% of all users are curators and only 1% of the users are creators. So, if you create your own content - it will be consumed by the consumers and the curators - so this has huge potential
