Paul Buchheit
The Buzz/Gmail integration is nice. They should open those integration points to other apps, such as FriendFeed.
e.g. the ability to have live updating messages in the inbox. - Paul Buchheit
is buzz a service? - MikeAmundsen
I think that could very well be coming, but in a slightly different form. That is, Gmail proper is a client for email, but Buzz is a client for social activity. Instead of having another tab for FriendFeed, Buzz would simply and seamlessly sync everything, including comments and attribution, with FriendFeed (and Facebook) via WebFinger/Salmon/ActivityStreams/etc. - Mark Trapp
No, I mean other apps, not necessarily just FriendFeed variants. - Paul Buchheit
If the ux is appending elements, then salmon would seem to be the way to do it, though then it needs a permalink to hang off. - Kevin Marks
That could be a nice baby step toward Wave (or Wave-like functionality) within Gmail. Update threads from XMPP, SMS, APIs,... - Tinfoil 2.0
Now you're talking! (I almost typed that in all caps.) - Stephen Mack
Paul, ah, like maybe Farmville? :-P Edit: not Farmville. But totally multiple games of Scrabble. Or even document collaboration. - Mark Trapp
I'd like comments sync'ed between the two but that's a pipedream. - Kol Tregaskes
Paul, are you saying you wan the equivalent of http://friendfeed.com/api... ? - Kevin Marks
I think they should just add header tags and use SMTP standard to do it. If specific header tags are in place, then Gmail adapts. - Jesse Stay
I agree though - I could use this in SocialToo's DM e-mails. - Jesse Stay
No, Kevin I'm talking about the interface integration. I would like to have made FriendFeed do the things that Buzz is doing in Gmail, but of course that kind of integration isn't possible to outside developers. - Paul Buchheit
It could then use salmon to sync comments from whatever service decides to adapt it - Jesse Stay
Salmon has nothing to do with what I'm asking for. - Paul Buchheit
Salmon drenched in butter and onions. Yum. - τorƍue
I'd like to change friendfeed so that the comments aren't too grey to read on my Mac, so it supports microformats, and the faces are bigger, but I can't do that either (well, not without munging with your sample apps: http://friendlierfeed.appspot.com ) - Kevin Marks
I don't see how Salmon couldn't be used for this. Salmon ideally could be used to push comments into the e-mail, couldn't it? Or am I misunderstanding what Salmon does? - Jesse Stay
Jesse, what if I want to change the message content entirely, not just be stuck within the limits of a comment-oriented ui? - Paul Buchheit
Paul, good point - that does limit to just a comment-oriented structure. Maybe they could use the Facebook API code at http://developers.facebook.com/opensou... to implement Canvas pages for e-mail. ;-) An FBML tag could tell it where to put the message body. - Jesse Stay
I'd love that functionality in Facebook, too, btw. I'd just take the ability to delete a message via API in Facebook though at a minimum. - Jesse Stay
The basic idea is that the inbox structure is useful, and as Buzz has demonstrated, it's useful for more than just email, so why not open up the inbox to third-party apps. BTW, we actually prototyped something like this for FriendFeed (open the feed to other apps), but never completed it enough to ship. I think it still has a lot of potential though. - Paul Buchheit
Paul, sounds like an opportunity for competition :-) - Jesse Stay
You didn't have to bugger off to Facebook you could still be developing Friendfeed right now and competing with Buzz. Google clearly thinks you guys were on to something here and there is money left on the table. - Mark
They must think there is lots of money to be made in a Friendfeed clone to put it dead center in the middle of their top service. - Mark
I think Facebook saw that, too :-) - Jesse Stay
Mark, buzz has a bit of a structural advantage over FriendFeed in that it can integrate with Gmail :) - Paul Buchheit
Yeah hehe. The truth is though, right now, Buzz is not as good / polished as Friendfeed. But I imagine they have lots and lots of people (probably more than was on the Friendfeed team) working on things. - Mark
I'll defer to Paul as the expert on this one :-) - Jesse Stay
Let's call a spade a spade. You can't say this but I can. Google stole your idea! lol. - Mark
Google steals all of Paul's ideas ;-) - Jesse Stay
Didn't they pay for some of them Jesse? :-) - Ken Sheppardson
Kevin Marks said on Gillmor Gang today that he was testing Buzz before he left google and that was age ago so they were developing Buzz when Friendfeed was growing and peaking. Suprised they didn't just try and buy Friendfeed. - Mark
And nobody is saying that FriendFeed could integrate in the same way on Facebook's messaging 2.0? - Louis Gray
Whilst we were all coming to Friendfeed, they were salivating over the service. - Mark
Everyone has their Facebooks set to Private though, or the most popular guys have the full 5000 limit so it wouldn't be as effective if they turned on Friendfeed for Facebook :( - Mark
I read recently somewhere on one of the big blogs that the fact so many people have Private accounts is hurting Facebooks in search revenue potential. - Mark
Obviously you can't do cool search things if 3/4 of the things people look for are coming from Private accounts and are blocked out of the search systemm - Mark
Hmm, maybe Buzz is a glimpse of a future Facebook-like app platform in gmail? Google Friend Connect fits in there somewhere. - Daniel Sims
Mark, everyone has their Gmails set to private as well - Jesse Stay
Daniel, I think Google is recreating a social network from the ground up. I think they could have just done it starting with Orkut if they did it right. I'm usually wrong though. - Jesse Stay
What happens if you edit via IMAP an email that is being read in gmail? - Nick Lothian from iPod
Sorta defeats the purpose of a "walled garden" if you open up the app to the competition #justsayin - WarLord
Nice - TrafficBug
Hey Paul, you guys should look into the Kynetx platform. With one platform you can create extensions across multiple browsers that re-organize the viewing experience. So, even without Google allowing you to alter it, you can allow users to alter it with just a simple install of a Facebook extension for their browser. You guys modify the experience, users get comments in their Gmail for FriendFeed/Facebook, and everyone's happy. No need to wait for Google for that. - Jesse Stay
If you guys don't create it I will so let me know :-) - Jesse Stay
Of course they do :) - Xavier Vespa
Yahoo! Mail supports adding OpenSocial apps. Would be nice to have the same in GMail. http://overview.mail.yahoo.com/apps - David Recordon
David, I'd love to see you guys do a Kynetx app. It could be your first entry into the Information/Action card space. :-) - Jesse Stay
BTW, I *love* some of the API stuff Yahoo is doing. Their APIs right now are really useful (and work with Facebook Connect)! - Jesse Stay
This is definitely a good idea. In the near term you could get most of the same benefit by making a friendfeed igoogle gadget. I don't know how many people check their email through igoogle rather than gmail, but I'd be willing to be that it's significant. - Ryan Moulton
They should probably build integration into their own properties first. Where's Buzz in Google maps? Where's the Buzz iGoogle gadget? - Julian Bond
@David Recordon -- see http://blog.opensocial.org/2009.... Doesn't come close to covering every use case discussed here, but does, I think, do exactly what you're asking about. - David Glazer

Access? Errrr why are you using Access? - Phill Price
I'm pulling the useful trend data out of a horribly written Access DB from a customer and saving it as .csv so we don't have to go back into Access. I didn't think it would be this painful.... - Ross Miller
try doing this via ODBC, it should be significantly faster (to another database server of some sort, I mean) - mjc
You do realize that it's pretty non-trivial to parallelize database queries, right? - Gabe
Access has no access to other cores :) - Ashish
++lelapin. It's 20 years later and Access still has no replacement as a RAD data-driven all-in-one, copy&paste-datasets tool with really low barrier to entry usability that ramps up to a reasonably powerful integrated scripting interpreter, and is effectively one 90% of corporate desktop computers by default. It gets a bad rap for cases of square peg in round hole application, but so does anything that's convenient and widely available. - Micah
Why would you even expect Access to use 8 cores? All programs use a single CPU by default unless somebody spends lots of time to make it scalable to more. SQL Server, Oracle, and DB2 have such people. Low-end DBs like Access, SQLite, and MySql don't. - Gabe
Gabe according to the docs, MySQL 5 can utilize multiple processors http://dev.mysql.com/doc... - Micah
Um, considering the fixes Facebook's making to innodb lock contention, I'm pretty sure that mysql will use multiple cores (for multiple concurrent queries, not executing a single query across cores, afaik). - Jim Norris
Micah: Jim is correct. MySql can only use lots of cores if you are running lots of queries, so it would have no advantage over Access in this situation. - Gabe
You obviously need to replace your access report with a map reduce. - Joe Beda from iPhone
I whipped Access into doing a lot of work for me back in the day. Can't touch it anymore tho. - Josh Haley

2009-oct: "Google says it has signed contracts with a number of "international service providers for inputs to Google Voice." It goes on to say that "none of the contracted services have yet" been launched." http://www.businessweek.com/technol... - Jérôme
Ummm I used the Google Voice app. You can download it from the Android Market, you'll need a Voice account with credit in it to make the call. On Android 2.* you can tell Google Voice to automatically handle international calls. Which means once you have a data connection all you have to do is hit "Send" and the rest is handled by the Voice app. - LANjackal
Yeah the "data connection" I mentioned above was Wi-Fi - LANjackal
Another Google Voice invite holder who cannot use it and is not willing to move to US. I'll be wait ing for Google to finish those deals by relying on other solutions. - Nenad Nikolic
Uh... since when did GV start routing voice calls over WiFi? Afaik it still places a PSTN call over the voice channel. They haven't integrated Gizmo5 *that* fast. - TranceMist
Ummm ... they've supported outbound calling from the day I joined. Once you download the GV app you can tell it to handle all outgoing international calls. - LANjackal
the outgoing call is made to your local GV number, and then the connection is routed to the call recipient. would that still work if the SIM card were removed and only Wifi is available? - Mike Chelen

Nice idea. Pity that it only supports a HTTPS interface, not surprising at that cost though (the software that runs the filesystems on the NetApp and other devices isn't exactly cheap to write). Anyone see if they quoted transfer speeds? I'm wondering what impact the four SATA cards each with SATA multipliers on them has when it comes to access speeds. - Russ
Steve: according to http://www.littletechshoppe.com/ns1625... disk cost ~$0.08 / mb in 1998, which comes out to >$800,000 for 1 TB or just over a million bucks in todays dollars. so maybe not millions, but a million! - Karl Rosaen
Russ: It runs Debian. If you were rolling your own (and they don't sell these units), you could turn on NFS or some other protocol (CIFS, iSCSI). They only use HTTP because it's cloud storage. NFS license is a major expense on NetApp, but all the major Linux distributions can act as NFS servers, CIFS servers, and probably iSCSI targets. - Andy Dustman
Andy: I know that you could do that on them but it leaves the problem of what to do with the storage. You could merge the 3 volumes into an LVM VG but the performance could become an issue with any load on it. It seems I wasn't the only one to question the performance, while the views of a Sun engineer aren't exactly unbiased it does highlight some of the downsides: http://www.c0t0d0s0.org/archive... - Russ
Russ, great find, thanks. - Jason Wehmhoener
Fascinating article; but more questions: "In rough terms, every time one of our customers buys a hard drive, Backblaze needs another hard drive." -- so what happens when a drive fails; how much redundancy is there? What happens when a meteorite destroys the whole building; is there off site backup too? (I know this *is* the off-site backup, but still...) I wonder how much data flows in and out over time. Maybe I should just read their website. - Rob Fisher
Rob: they mention using 15 drive RAID6 volumes that can lose up to 2 drives before failure - Mike Chelen
The worst part about this cluster design is the fact that I couldn’t shut up about it for the first couple days after finding out about it. It was the solution I proposed to every problem. There were complaints. - A Mitchell
IMO RAID6 is not that great. Granted, it's highly unlikely to lose 3 drives at the same time, but there's still possibility. Besides, for write-intensive app, parity calculation is quite time-consuming. I personally prefer RAID 10 (striped array of RAID1 pairs). Yes the effective usable space is less than half total capacity, but for backups -- which will sooner or later be used to restore something -- I prefer data integrity over usage efficiency. - Pandu ● IT Optimizer from fftogo

Doesn't Marvel have deals with Universal Studio's? - Mark Layton
Yes they do. Expect those deals not to be renewed. I imagine we will be seeing Spider-Man and the Hulk at Disney World before too long. - Evan Brown
@Evan. Thanks, that is what I was thinking. Universal has a majority of rides and venues themed from Marvel. Should be interesting to see what happens there and at the Disney Parks. - Mark Layton

"Sometimes a single driver can vastly improve traffic." - AJ Batac :) from Bookmarklet
I always leave a large gap in front of me. - Michelle M
I think I'll do this from now on - AJ Batac :)
I had heard about something like this a while back. I try to do it as much as I can but jackalopes are always cutting in the space. Oh well. - caj needs a haircut
Continue what you are doing Curtis. Don't mind those jackalopeseses - AJ Batac :)
This philosophy collapses when you have real gridlock though; if all the lanes are clogged with stopped (or very slow moving) traffic and you try to employ this technique, you just end up pissing off the cars trapped behind you because you are going 5mph while everyone else is going 10. - Phil Glockner
It's simply courteous and defensive driving. There should be space between cars for safety. And there's no reason to close ranks to not allow others in. We're all going in the same direction with the same goal. If you'd like others to be courteous, always be courteous yourself. - ·[▪_▪]·
Living in LA has totally colored how I drive now. I remember going back home to SD to see my folks and I was agog at how much more aggressive I'd become. :( - Derrick
It's not cheating, it's just optimal timing :-) - Todd Hoff
It's the rocket scientist like this that causes wrecks behind him and road rage. Slower traffic keep right is the law (for good reason). He demonstrates why he should stay in the far right lane, go about his business, and stop trying to "fix all of the traffic around him". What an ego. - Robert Kenney
the most important part is really the end, where he says how this style of driving is actually calming and altruistic instead of infuriating and selfish.... geez, if everything felt that way we'd have less problems once people got out of their car, all frustrated and pissy. - Nicķ
Simple math. - Mike Reynolds
This is absolutely brilliant. I think I just found a pick of the week and it's only Tuesday. - Josh Haley
This is the dude who did the zero cost steadycam using a tripod. Good stuff. - Rodfather
I gotta check that out, Rodfather. I could put a steadycam to work. http://www.wonderhowto.com/how-to... - Josh Haley
I received a 404 error. There seems to be a traffic jam on the server as well. - Louis Trapani from iPhone
It's kind of obvious.. stop and go causes problems (and wrecks), even if it does take you longer, it doesn't FEEL longer because you aren't gas/break/gas/break, so less stressful drive. On the flip side, you think this guy driving slow (and not keeping the traffic pace) will cause someone else to slam him in the rear? - Tim Hoeck
It might cause more disruption with cars behind him moving into the other lane to pass him. Honestly, I can't stand drivers who leave a huge gap in front during a traffic jam. Josh, it's basically just extending a tripod and holding it in the middle :) http://www.youtube.com/watch... - Rodfather
Interesting: "Governor Bush vetoed 2005 SB732, which would have reserved the left lane for passing, saying that drivers blocking the left lane are 'cautious and careful.'" - from "State keep right laws" http://www.mit.edu/~jfc... - Micah
So, his basic tactic, albeit in a single lane, is similar to what I see highway patrol officers do when they want to SLOW DOWN traffic -- the highway patrol car swerves back and forth from fast to left to right lane and back and forth, lights ablazing, effectively doing two things -- creating a BIG GAP between the cop car and the rest of the traffic in front of him, and second SLOWS... more... - Pete D
A few people already mentioned it above, but let me also say that this technique will not work in heavily trafficked roads. I've spent time in cities like Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, Bangkok and you just can't leave a large gap between you and the car in front of you. First they will get filled by other cars really really quickly, and second you will just piss off the cars behind you. - Andre P. Siregar
My wife and I debate this, because I sometimes do this myself. Stop and go traffic seems silly, when throughput would be higher if people left enough space between cars to absorb some of the braking. The website at http://trafficwaves.org/ is interesting, especially the link to http://www.ur.umich.edu/0304... that claims single-lane jams would be radically reduced if >=20% of cars had adaptive cruise control. - Matt Cutts
Meh. I just do whatever gets me to my destination fastest #aggressivedriver - LANjackal
kinda like why people are requested to exit in an orderly fashion during a fire. The only hindrance to this is getting over the feeling of being taken advantage of by the jackasses who ignore the order. But no pain no gain and you have to live with that for the greater good. - vijay
I practice a type-A version of this in non-stop-and-go traffic, I'd call "driving Parkour", basically, I tend to drive over the speed limit, but I leave large gaps, and when I need to slow down, I avoid hitting my brakes and try to led friction/drag slow my car down before I have to hit my breaks. I look far ahead and try to plot out if I need to switch lanes in order to maintain speed... more... - Ray Cromwell
Clarkson eluded to this in his unique crass manner, don't brake and drive clever. Save everyone money. - Toby Graham
the biggest cause of traffic jams are the idiots who don't get in lane and bimble along in the middle lane without any plan to actually overtake anyone. I've seen people when there has been nothing on the inside lane and yet they won't pull into it as they should. This is even more obvious when you consider that articulated lorries aren't allowed to drive in the outside lane, meaning... more... - alphaxion
( ++ alphaxion for 'bimble'. Loving that :D ) - vijay
The roads imho would be better if more drove this way. I was, however, waiting for some kind of shocking thing to happen in the video. - Rob Schieber
I wish iPhone supported flash or other flash based video websites especially if I want to watch videos on website other than YouTube. - Ashish from iPhone

Great to see this taken up again - I've been doing this since I first read his site years ago... - Kevin Marks
I always keep lot of room in front of my car for my safety but I think it takes lot of room and creates longer line. - Ashish
While the line may be longer the actual distance you travel isn't any greater; you use less gas; your breaks will last longer; you're less likely to be involved in a crash and in fact it has an almost negligible affect on your travel time. Yes it is "slower" but on my 50 mile commute the difference is maybe a couple of minutes. - Eoghann Irving
I agree Eoghann Irving. Wish everybody thought like this. - Ashish
+1 Pete Delucchi. I do agree it's probably better for your mental health to drive this way. Assuming you don't mind the "insult" of everybody cutting into to your lane. - Matsis
Drivers behind me may get annoyed but there is always room at the front ;) - Ashish
I used to drive like this, until my commute changed to one that had more traffic lights. Then I realized that letting cars in front of me didn't make 1 second per car difference, it could make 10's of minutes, because I'd often miss traffic light cycles. I wish it wasn't the case - I guess it's going to depends on your commute. - Nick Lothian
for the most part this will work; unless you're in the NYC area or such. - clarke thomas

At last! - Usman Bashir
This is so going to work in the classroom! I'm excited. - Miss Elle
And Google Rocks! :p - Fırat Demirel
Just forewarning - the public will be overwhelmed. It's too much to launch with, IMO - way too many features. (I'm in the developer sandbox preview) - Jesse Stay
@Jesse Thanx 4 the forewarning I kind of have that feeling when the video presentation presents itself it will take a while to look around its features. I always take my time to test features - polou/indigo_bow
I expect a steep learning curve. I've barely started learning about GReader, for that matter. Still, I'll be there when Wave launches, for sure. - Dennis Jernberg
Anil Dash said it best http://dashes.com/anil... - Mac64
Unless they fix up a lot between now and then people are going to be very, very surprised (not in a good way!). Release early, release often is great, but I'm not sure people's expectations are realistic. - Nick Lothian
Let's see what it's like then. Thanks for the info. - Rick Cogley
Great now how long till Google buys Twitter to integrate it into Wave - Rob Cairns
Rob, there is already a Twitter extension called Twave that integrates Twitter into GWave. - Kol Tregaskes
Rob: I highly doubt that Google will buy Twitter as it doesn't fits any were with their existing products and with its integration with Wave what's the point of buying it. - Usman Bashir
Usman - they will find a way to leverage it into Wave or another product.. I really believe Google is going going to make a big splash with Wave and they will have some big surprises in store. Google is not King of the cloud for a reason:) - Rob Cairns
I've been secretly hoping that FFers, through one of our A-lister friends, would be reached out to for early invitation. Sept 30 is sooo far away! - JCunwired
Thank Heavens for Google!! Every Computer User owes Google a Huge Thank U for FREEing us all from the Shackles of Greedy Monopolistic Crappy Microsoft* ;)) - Billy Warhol
I watched the video. So exactly what kind of beast Google Wave is? A social media platform? Can it aggregate as well as FriendFeed? Looks awesome to me. More like a tsunami. lols - jan geronimo

Hehe, delete the dups, Zee. ;-) - Kol Tregaskes
i did didn't i? - Zee.
I'll bump this again. Sorta disturbing that the the Scoble "look at me, I'm part of this" thread has garnered more attention than this. WAVE offers more promise at this point. - Mattb4rd
Whoohoo - I am really looking forward to Google Wave - great news - thanks Zee. - Robert Freeze

Geocities 2.0! - pourmecoffee
Maybe Google Chrome OS earlier than expected? - Manuel Mas
I wonder what that could be. - John (bird whisperer)
So they're already giving up on wave? - Colin
How can they be advertising something cooler than Wave when Wave isn't even out yet? - Lise
Colin: no. Wave is very important to Google. - Robert Scoble from iPhone
Wave 2.0? - TheHenry
I think I know, but I'm not allowed to say because it would violate an NDA. - Bryan Bartow
It's Google Surfboard - a wave add-on - Keith Barrett
Bryan: in that case do you agree? - Robert Scoble from iPhone
Wave is going to be awesome. Waiting on my sandbox access.. it will redefine communications on the net! - Tim Hoeck
Or how about Google Wave: Pacific. - TheHenry
Depends on their implementation of the idea. Personally, I'm more excited about Wave based on what I know about the two, which I admit is very little. - Bryan Bartow
I have a Wave sandbox, and it IS awesome! The announcement has to be related to the new OS or android - Keith Barrett
Keith, if it's what I'm talking about then it is neither. - Bryan Bartow
Bryan: hummmmm. Now I'm more tortured - Keith Barrett
In the interest of full disclosure, my information is two levels removed from the source. Google -> vendor -> me. Still, I trust the source and when the idea was told to me it sounded very plausible. - Bryan Bartow
I hope it's Google Base integration with Open Social widgets! - Mitch
A bit bigger than that, Mitch ;) - Bryan Bartow
@manuel I just came back from Win7 ship party and i am astonished that how many man years does it take make a OS. - Ruchit Garg
My team was actually asked to work on the project, but we unfortunately had to decline. It definitely would have been a cool project. - Bryan Bartow
Ruchit: I understand, just speculating. Yet considering it sounds like a Linux distro running Chrome, it does not sound all that impossible. - Manuel Mas
Maybe its the ability to call up contacts list when composing a message. That would be groundbreaking. :/ - JCunwired
Google Heath integration with Orkut? - Mitch
@Bryan: Is it a Netbook with Chrome OS with all the Google Apps built in. Something like a GPad? - Abhishek Tiwari
Chrome OS wouldn't be a real surprise. Even a Linux distro by Google wouldn't be a shock. Wonder what it could be... hmm... - ChristianWV
killer than wave??? how many of you think google wave is a path breaking one????? - hariharan kumar
cool is always relative. I have learned not to get too excited. It may be cool for you but not me. - Phillip Miller
I think you mean subjective - Mitch
hate you. :) - metalerik
When I first heard about Wave, I thought big deal, chat and email. But after watching the entire presentation, I see it could replace Email, IM, IRC, Forums, Blogs and their commenting systems, etc.. and put it all in your 'INBOX' - Tim Hoeck from Android
What about the Google Docs interface overhaul? http://googledocs.blogspot.com/2009... With the possibilities of GDrive ... - Kevin Mohr
Google AdSense on the new Coca-Cola Freestye soda dispensers? - RAD Moose
@Abhishek Nope. Not hardware related if it's what I'm thinking. - Bryan Bartow
I'd be willing to bet it is mobile-related. - Tinfoil 2.0
Google shoul create a highly robust social media platform that integrates Google's products: profiles, mail, calendars, chat, voice, picassa, blogger, gReader, search, latitude, maps - that is what I would build :) - Susan Beebe from BuddyFeed
add Wave too, of course - Susan Beebe from BuddyFeed
I'm just going to call it gootopia (or should it be googtopia. hmm) - Micah from iPhone
Susan, I think that is happening already, bit by bit. Every month there are new capabilities and integration points. I'm optimistic on that front. - Tinfoil 2.0
Interactive TV? :P - imabonehead
I was dreaming about getting access to wave now something new and better?!!! - Mostafa Lameei
Mostafa: There's always something new and better coming from every front. - Manuel Mas
Logical - Google product integration has way more potential than they have currently in production now. I see layers of useful and revenue generating features and improvents. The potential roadmap I see for this is highly disruptive and needed. - Susan Beebe from iPhone
If I had to guess, I would say 1) some type of Youtube Appliance (=Apple TV done right) or 2) Google News 3.0 (shifting from news to a discovery engine). The TV thing is probably bigger and somewhere they have a big competitive advantage with Youtube. - Edwin Khodabakchian
USB plug in directly to right ear download contents of mental zipper - ready to upload to friends - PookyMedia
Another big opportunity besides realtime communication is media streaming so my guess is a Silverlight-like (RIA) platform with special focus on adjustments dependent on the device used for consuming and open enough that augmented reality innovations will play nice with current "standard" codecs - Alberto Saavedra
Google TV!!! Yes! - Susan Beebe from BuddyFeed
Google Web Drive, under the "Cosmo" codename. Read Blogoscoped or GOS. I think Ionut told me he expects Cosmo to be launch before Sept. - Jérôme from iPhone
Google Web Drive would be cooler, in a way..ve. - Nick Humphries
Antimatter Wave, aka Wavenot™ - ianf ⌘
Google buying FF?!! but something big too big have will for sure have a relation with Google voice. - abdellah
A time machine? - Allen Eskelin
"Google buying FF" - Noooooo! It will just get killed like some of the other high profile acquisitions they have made. - travispuk
@Allen I love the concept, @Travis google killed the app that were at their first stage of development, FF is 85% finished (mean completed) the rest 5% will be user innovation, so even if Google buy FF they will not change a line in the code or the architecture.now who is the firt to like this post?!! what did Greader this week? who from Greader left the office to go to FF? too many question!! - abdellah
but let be clear, all the above are just speculation. - abdellah
Nope Abdellah. Cosmo have been mentionned numerous times in official docs and in the code of some apps. - Jérôme from iPhone
@Jerome havn't understand what do you mean by Cosmo - abdellah
I think it's called "hype." - Carlos Eberhardt
It has to be quantum computing. all computation done outside of time and space. - Walter Logeman
I'm thinking Google Chrome with Native Client for super fast rendering of web applications (including Wave). - George Moga
Introducing Google Goo: Making the web squishy, coming late 2009. - DGentry
Won't be hard to be cooler than Wave. Yes, I'm not a big Wave fan: way too noisy, messy, unusable... Maybe I'll change my mind in the future but for now, I still don't get what we'll do with this stuff and I don't buy the idea. - Pascal Thivent
Okay, here are my predictions. First, let me say that being cooler than Wave will be quite hard because that's pretty awesome (do you have sandbox access Pascal? Because I'm sure that will change your mind). (1) Google TV - Never mentioned anywhere officially and would definitely be cooler than most others, however VEVO is somewhat similar. (2) GDrive/Cosmo/whatever they call it - would... more... - Californian
Google World Domination? - Amit Morson
The amount of web-based applications being delivered from Google is amazing. There is so much potential in Google voice apps, Google Wave, which will put their social apps on steroids and now an OS. If they can leverage their brand and fan base into these other verticals; they will be a force to reckoned with and a huge target for anti-trust regulators... - Mark Harai
Google Cloud. In your pocket, on your desk, embedded ---anywhere, anytime at anyprice. - Thom Kennon
Wow Thom - that actually does sound VERY cool... - Mark Harai
I'm interested too!! - Alex Hammer
Probably something to do with a more direct Windows competition. If you look at Google's recent products, many of them are meant to replace Microsoft products. - William Mougayar from iPhone
A multi-platform OS is the only thing in my mind that could top Wave. Can't wait to find out for sure though what this will be! - Garin Kilpatrick
I bet it's the Gdrive after I've just paid for an extra 10GB storage on Google. Would be cool to be able to access all my files from any google app, so I could add a picture from picassa webalbum or embed a video of mine/ favourited without having to go to the other site and copy a URL. This would set it up nicely for google OS - Steven Horner from iPhone
It's a kind of gyro balanced 2-wheel personal transportation device, IT will change everything. The way we live, the way cities are built. - Ray Cromwell
Crazy. I wonder if it will read my mind and stream content related to my thoughts in real-time. - Dane
What!? Cooler than Wave. I'll give my left nut to find out what & to be a tester. - Brian Felix from iPhone
Whatever it is, I'm sure IT WILL BE BIGGER THAN THE INTERNETS! - Andy Bakun
It is a Google-branded reality distortion field developed in collaboration with Apple. The reality distortion field prototype is so strong that Eric Schmidt was forced to resign from the Apple board of directors, lest his field encounter that of Steve Jobs reulting in mutual annihilation in a devastating burst of pure energy. - thegeniusfiles
That's a really interesting idea, Gabe. It seems to go a bit against the drive that Google Apps will reduce the need for IT departments though, so I doubt it. - Californian
This photo search thing? - Michael Q Todd
More exciting than Wave. Has got to be Tsunami - Sidharth Dassani

Tweetie Desktop for Mac Is Clean, Simple and Robust - http://www.louisgray.com/live...
Prediction: Twitter will buy Tweetie. - Mike Doeff
Okay I'll admit, I'm looking forward to this. Tweetdeck was just way too much for me, but Twitteriffic is getting a bit long in the tooth. - Kevin Fox
Looks nice. Much better than what I have last seen from Twitteriffic. - Meryn Stol
I also think people will like to have the same (or similar) UI on iphone and mac. - Meryn Stol
I am torn between the multi-column Nambu (which has translate feature) and the more minimalist (but with plenty features under the covers) Tweetie. Am sticking with Tweetie for a few days to give it a chance, since Nambu has been a big favourite for a while. - Bob Walder
Bob: I like the "take over your screen" approach of TweetDeck better. Why? I have a whole computer dedicated to running it. Nambu is interesting, but I got used to TweetDeck and didn't see much of a reason to switch. - Robert Scoble
Mike: Don't think Twitter will ever buy a client. Especially one without a Windows component. Robert: I really like Nambu so far. I've never really gotten into Tweetdeck, something about the UI is weird. Tweetie looks pretty cool but the lack of groups is a huge problem for me. - Brandon Titus
I prefer desktop applications for almost everything, but I thought I was in the minority on that. Everyone seems more interested in web-based mail/IM, but dedicated applications for Twitter are so often trumpeted. I'm not sure what to think about that, but I know I'd like to see a really nice application for XMPP(does Twitter still support this?) and SIP that is extensible. AIR is a memory hog, so Tweetdeck et al. are not acceptable. - coldbrew
What about setting up groups (re:Tweetdeck) so you can organize your twitter feed? That seems like that is the one thing that is missing. - Amani
Leather, OAuth is still *very* beta. I have a hard enough time with the stuff Twitter has that's not in beta, but until we can expect not to have the code changed every week it doesn't make sense to implement OAuth. It's still very buggy. - Jesse Stay
Stay: Say what you will, but my understanding is that Twitter's OAuth is 'textbook' with respect to the spec. Not sure past experience is relevant in this context. - coldbrew
Regarding the lack of groups. From what I've seen @atebits holds values in certain things (e.g. defaulting to via: rather than RT). However he did make RT an option in the end, so perhaps he'll do the same for groups? Anyway. I'm looking forward to this - anything to get away from AIR apps, though I use Twitterfall most of the time anyway. - Jalada
Robert: I have a big thing against Air (and other such "bloat tools"), so would always choose a native app like Nambu or Tweetie. If you opt for the multi-column mode of Nambue (and you can choose a more "Tweetie-fied" look if you prefer) then you get something that looks (to me) a lot like Tweetdeck and certainly fills your monitor - Bob Walder
I'm looking forward to this app. I like Nambu but I'm always looking for something new. - G Dub of the Carolinas
I, like many others, love Nambu. Since Nambu is already thinking ahead and planning for future FriendFeed support, I think I'll keep using it. :) - EricaJoy
