She was worth a stare. She was trouble. She was tall and rangy and strong-looking. She had a good mouth and a good chin. There was a sulky droop to her lips and the lower lip was full. She had a drink. She took a swallow from it and gave me a cool level stare over the rim of the glass. - Raymond Chandler, The Big Sleep (1939)

My theory: I've probably just not had high quality pinot. It's all about the quality. I've had plenty a shoddy red. One day I'll try more whites. One day.....
- Mike Cavaliere
I'm not that big a fan of whites. I've had one or two I liked, but in general, nah. As far as high quality, I'm pretty much into the $8 bottles from Trader Joe's. :)
- Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
hahah yep! The $8 bottles are automatics. Yellowtail's not bad. Woodbridge I think is another one (or is it "Chalet--somehting"?..). Every now and then when it's on sale you gotta spring the the $15 Coppolla Claret, though. Now THAT's my idea of high quality.
- Mike Cavaliere
Oh, I lied. The one I just finished was BV Coastal Estates Cabernet Sauvignon. I got that when my parents were here a few weeks ago - dad likes Cab a lot. Next bottle is Kenwood Pinot Noir (bought by my dad to replace the one they drank). Clearly, I am not a wine conoisseur. :)

FRAK, burned the cookies. You'd think I'd learn. But no. I always burn them. EVERY DAMN TIME.
- Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
We ALL back that - as long as you ship COOKIES.

"All of those twentysomethings who voted for Barack Obama last year are about to experience the change they haven't been waiting for: the return of income tax bracket creep. Buried in Nancy Pelosi's health-care bill is a provision that will partially repeal tax indexing for inflation, meaning that as their earnings rise over a lifetime these youngsters can look forward to paying higher rates even if their income gains aren't real."

one of the get satisfaction links mostly ignored by the devs on this topic: http://getsatisfaction.com/grooves... There are a couple of work around third party things mentioned but I don't use grooveshark enough to care to make any of it work halfassed.
- Michael W. May
Thanks, MWM. I use third-party plugins/workarounds for Pandora and Slacker; thankfully, lala.com added actual last.fm support. Hopefully I can get one of the Grooveshark ones to work. Listening to Amy Millan now, BTW. Really, really liking it (it's her first album, not the new one).
- Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
both her albums rock :) well, sorta rock... groove anyway *chuckle* And the new grooveshark interface is nice... fast... and I'm wondering why I didn't see it on the beta site
- Michael W. May
Still no way to delete songs from library *grr* it stripped some tags when I uploaded over a year ago and a lot of the tunes are in my grooveshark library are thus screwed up. I've wanted a way to remove those longer than I've wanted scrobbling.
- Michael W. May
Planning on getting the newer one tonight. $15 though! I'm getting too spoiled by local bands. Guess I should be glad I get to see her in such a small venue where I'll probably get to meet her.

Jonathan B.: "Now a new trailer has been released with a little more insight into the characters and the plot of the story, perhaps as a direct response to the backlash that the first trailer received around the web. Opening with some overused Steve Jablonsky music from The Island, it sets the tone for the film: it’s going to be an epic melodramatic action-packed adventure in typical James Cameron fashion. The trailer has some real silly moments, but for me, it works overall and I think this looks more like the Avatar that we expected before the first trailer was released." [trailer embedded]
- Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
It contains the line "you're not in Kansas anymore." That right there kind of tells me something.
- Noah Belson
In other news, The Last Airbender trailer looks awesome. Once again I got confused but caught myself before hitting post. Someone at your church is the reason I got hook on A:TLA
- Mark Horne
Oh really? Who? I'm trying to think who here would be into The Last Airbender.
- Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
Will it make me forgive him for Aliens?
- Louis Simoneau
Cartoonist who had a chance but stayed with what he was doing.
- Mark Horne
Following up the epitome of atmospheric sci-fi horror with a two-and-a-half hour explosion filled shoot-em-up?
- Louis Simoneau
Louis, would you have been happier with a carbon copy of the first film? I always felt that Mr. Cameron set out to make an action movie, not a horror movie. And hey, at least he changed things up a little, which is more than you can say for most sequels these days.
- Noah Belson
Yeah, I thought Alien had to stand alone so that Aliens was supposed to be a different kind of movie. Really, I think that is the genius of the first 3. They were all very different despite continuity.
- Mark Horne
I think Jonathan Coulton nailed this. "I don't want to nitpick, Tom, but is this really your plan? To spend your whole life locked inside a mall? Maybe that's okay for now, but someday you'll be out of food and guns, and then you'll have to make the call."
- Ha3rvey (Free hugs!)
One time my dad & I were in nowheresville, Florida looking for a particular movie theater. We walked through a mall, and slowly realized that there were no open stores. No people of any kind. The lights were on, and music echoed creepily. I became so convinced of a zombie setup ultimately the pressure was too much, and I screamed "for the love of god, man, RUN!" My supercool dad ran yelling with me to the exit. The end.
- Lo
Farmland. Long line of sight, far from population centers, and gives you the potential for sustainable living in the long term.
- Brad Greer
Lo, I used to work in the mall as a teenager, and they are SO CREEPY after closing. *shudder*
- Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
Brad has thought this through, perhaps a little too much... but he'll have the last laugh.
- Lo
I do believe we discussed this on one of our earlier dates. He's probably only marrying me because he found out that I have experience shooting a shotgun.
- Christina Kuhn
Not dressing up? You're getting old before your time, girlie.
- Spidra Webster
I've never been much of a Halloween-dresser-upper. :) I hated trick-or-treating as a kid, because I was so shy. Even candy wasn't enough incentive to make going up and knocking on people's doors seem like a fun thing to do.

Andrew James: "More bad assery is on the way from George Miller. The new Mad Max picture is definitely in the works and the proof of that lies in the video below in which Mr. Miller shows us some of the vehicles that are in production for the feature." [video embedded in the post]

Joey, I hope so, but it's been broken for a month. For now, I'm using the bookmarklet if I really want to share an Amazon link (and looking for another aggregator)
- Greg GuitarBuster
I'm taking this opportunity to add all the really embarrassing stuff to my Wish List without anyone on FF knowing...
- tinypants - Hagitha of FF
Greg, I thought about that but I'd like it all from one place so if it gets fixed I don't want to re-add it. I'd just like to know if there is a plan to fix it or if I should give up.
- joey
I really miss seeing items that my friends share from Amazon.

"FriendFeed.com will continue to operate normally." - http://blog.friendfeed.com/2009... -- obviously Facebook has a different definition of "operate normally" than the rest of us, if they can leave a supported feed broken for so long!
- Scott of Two Countries
Sigh. I would just like to know if it will ever get fixed or not.
- joey
It is October16, 2009 and my favorite feed still does not work :(

"A final observation, perhaps too obvious to require saying: It's no coincidence that Democratic Party outlets like CNN had to dredge up fake quotes to make their case. Nothing Rush actually said would do the trick, even though he's been on the radio three hours a day, five days a week, for more than twenty years. That really tells you all you need to know."
- Craig Eddy
well at least rush is fighting back or at least threatened to by sending letters to them per an article i saw yesterday
