@JoeManna oh, the rain is going to be bad enough for flooding? I think I need to find a good vantage point ;)
@martinstabe I see it just as often in my line of work as I do in yours.
.@martinstabe never underestimate the power of peoples willingness to overstate skill involved in their job to feel better about themselves
thinking about switching from memcached in favour of file caching to deal with a long-tail content scenario where some never changes..
it would be nice if django had a read-through memcache->file-cache cache backend.
@timhaines funny. Same time as one of my slices going mental into swap. Wouldn't it be ironic ? You in STL-B ?
@dneighbors then you've succeeded. I came to it originally because I was looking for a co-working space.
was chatting earlier about how @gangplank is just as much community centre as it is co-working space.
right. This weekend is the weekend I actually properly work with RabbitMQ, Django and orbited, and make them make comet things happen.
sometimes it needs a bastard to get the job done. This isn't, however, an excuse to be a bastard all the time.
@johnjuliano reasonably (within last 12 months, at worst), anything I can load into a database. Not rhetorical, app idea.
@mthomps Indeed. It wasn't at all obvious who was the more righteous party to side with.
@johnjuliano yeah, doesn't work perfectly for my purpose. If I can buy a list for low hundreds, then I'd rather do that.
anyone know how expensive it is to get hold of an up-to-date list of current eateries all across the US ?
@johnjuliano not an especially original app idea, but one that might be fun with a slightly different twist on it.

about to play carcassonne with @tepanga, crafts @gangplank later
Mentioned to @tepanga talking to @realjoe about a valley food map. She's excited by the prospect
#mindcampaz and crowdpitch @gangplank turned out to be a crazy awesome day today. Thanks to all involved!
fun talking about religion and faith at #mindcampaz
@tommorris that they did that with jaiku makes it seem like it would be a possibility.
@jeresig googles acquisition-as-recruitment policy is certainly a net negative :/
@heawood you sure your, er your friends, dad isn't deliberately pretending to have forgotten about it ?
@rxgx but postgres is more of a pain in the butt to cluster. It's not a black and white decision.
@rxgx also, depending on the workload, postgres might not be better. For low-insert, simple DBs, mysql is quicker.
re my "big changes are made up of lots of small changes" comment other day, http://blogs.harvardbusiness.org/cs... about "minnovating". thanks @jonathandeamer
@rxgx the communities for the latest + greatest techs are mostly filled with *more* zealotry, not less.
@rxgx when you start to do other stuff (high-insert, GIS with polygons as two examples I have) postgres is *much* better.
reading @gilesgoatboy's blog is always amusing, and sometimes enlightening : http://gilesbowkett.blogspot.com/2009...
