Need to clarify something...is there a way to show new shares just by the time they were posted? Without any interference from comments or likes bumping up old shares?
Hi there. We'd love to get Posterous added to Friendfeed. I know that it's just as easy to add an RSS feed, but you've added support for Tumblr, Skyrock, Livejournal and other blog platforms too. Not asking for special treatment. We're gonna do autopost integration on our end too, though. (coming soon) -Garry, cofounder, posterous.com
There's a lot of good stuff that people are sending to Posterous - users include Mike Arrington and Guy Kawasaki. Surprised there's not support for it yet.
- Sachin Agarwal
Posterous support would be appreciated.
- Jeff Benner
Garry: From a user perspective, Posterous is really slick. All the best to you guys.
- Nick in Manila
*bump* -- I have just imported a posterous of mine as custom atom/rss, but the resulting FF entry kinda sucks. Please add Posterous as a supported service!
- alieb
As a part of our redesign launch, you can post to FriendFeed by emailing share@friendfeed.com, and you can get your feed delivered via email (you can even comment by replying to the messages). See more here: http://friendfeed.com/share...
You can post from any email address associated with your account. Email notifications will go to your primary address.
- Tudor Bosman
Currently, we support automatic posting (without going through an "approve" page) for Gmail, Yahoo, and MSN/Hotmail/Live.com. We will add more email providers in the future, and we will also have a technical document on what an ISP needs to do in order to get added.
- Tudor Bosman
I thought a saw a "hello world" yesterday that got deleted rather quickly :)
- Frankie Warren
Isn't this a huge spam vector? All I have to know is someone's email address to mail from and I can send stuff to FF?
- Brian Sullivan
Brian: we use a number of methods including SPF to verify that emails came from the actual owner of the email address. If we can't verify, we make the entry go through an approval step before it is posted.
- Bret Taylor
from email
What Bret said; that's why we only support a few email providers right now.
- Tudor Bosman
from email
You should add more Twitter sharing options, so that I can have emailed-posts automatically tweeted. (like by emailing twitter@friendfeed.com). Then FF can become a replacement for services like twitpic
- Daniel Sims
So I could get spammed just by needing to approve posts that didn't come from me?
- Brian Sullivan
I don't see any way to turn it off for my account - does such a feature exist?
- Brian Sullivan
I just tried to send an email to a private group from a different email account and the request to approve it was sent back to the email address from which I sent the direct message. Is this the intended behavior?
- Shakeel Mahate
Shakeel: Yes. In order to approve the post, you have to log in to FriendFeed if you aren't logged in already.
- Tudor Bosman
Brian: as Shakeel noted, the approval request will be sent to the email address that was used to post. If someone is trying to spam, they will receive the approval request, not you. In order to approve, though, they would have to log in to FriendFeed, so they can only impersonate you if they know your FriendFeed password.
- Tudor Bosman
It is sent to the address that the user claimed does it not ? If they claimed to be me I would get the request? Spam may be an over statement -- but it certainly could be annoying.
- Brian Sullivan
Curious if setting the reply to different than the from will have effect on this? registered with yahoo, but yahoo sends out all mail with gmail as reply to...
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
Brian, that is correct. We will address this issue if it becomes a real problem; we do have some spam-prevention measures in place.
- Tudor Bosman
Rob: you need to associate with your account the address that you send from (that is, the address in the From: header).
- Tudor Bosman
Tudor, I think your solution is brilliant, thank you.
- Shakeel Mahate
Tudor: I'm not seeing IM notifications on "comments on posts I commented on" (and maybe same for posts I liked
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
Rob: we just added that feature last night, so yeah, it's possible that there are some bugs. Looking into it.
- Tudor Bosman
Thanks Tudor. I'll be keeping an eye out for it...I've only got those set (but I did get blasted before I turned off the "Home Feed" notifications
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
Not seeing IM posts to @me going thru. :( This makes me a sad panda.
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
Added another mail to stream via cellphone, but confirmation reply never came in, a bug maybe?
- Nir Ben Yona
great stuff! i mean ..stuFF .... thanks! ..you are the befft ! .. and will be even beffer .. Im quite sure about that .. LoFFe all the new ffeatures. ! ......... do you think to enable also x@ff.im? it might be handy, save typing
- Petr Buben
AND you guys successfully omitted email signatures from DMs and posts!
- Mona Nomura
is that new Mona? The last DM I sent via email included my signature. (was a few days ago)
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
is there email notifications for groups?? i know you can post to groups via email, but i dont see the way to turn on emails out of groups.
- Frankie Warren
So that means no more using the remote key in the email address? That's SWEET.
- Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
Frankie—Not yet. For now you can add the groups you'd like to receive notifications for to a friend list and enable email notifications for that list.
- Dan Hsiao
Dan: Thanks for the work around... I hope a more intuitive method eventually shows up :)
- Frankie Warren
Hey everyone reading this on Twitter - come join the party on Friendfeed :)
- Phill Price
I leave for a few hours and FF Co. goes and WINs all over the place. Can't leave you alone for a second :)
- grant fox
Mona, Rob: we tweaked the email signature detection code a bit, and should get rid of the default signatures from iPhone, Blackberry, and WinMo phones, as well as small variations (HI MONA). If you want to ensure that your signature gets dropped, configure the signature to include "-- " (two dashes and a space) on a line by itself before the actual signature text.
- Tudor Bosman
Bret, it looks good, liking the new email and IM features. I've still got a huge suggestions and bug list. ;-)
- Kol Tregaskes
Grant, I went off to watch a rare bit of TV then come back to all this! LOL. :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
I could not post via email, because I guess I never confirmed my email address. I updated my email with the same one and clicked on the link that was subsequently sent to me. Now posts via email work.
- Chip Ramsey
Is old interface via mail2ff going anywhere? I'd like to continue authorizing my posts with remotekey.
- Alex Kapranoff
The mails I send on share@friendfeed.com won't show up. I'm using GMail. Is there a issue?
- Ryo / Fuck Facebook
Ryo -- is your gmail address in your ff list of email addresses?
- Brian Sullivan
Brian, yes, I added it about an hour ago and made it the primary and only one.
- Ryo / Fuck Facebook
Ryo: That may be the same thing that was happening to me. Did you try to add the same email address again? It should fire a confirmation email that provides a link. After I clicked the link, I was then able to send posts via my email.
- Chip Ramsey
Chip, it was a new mail address... Will try it again. EDIT: Ahh, now after removing the new address and re-entering it worked. Will test some more.
- Ryo / Fuck Facebook
Ryo: BTW, I'm also on gmail and everything works fine now, so gmail itself probably is not the problem.
- Chip Ramsey
Nice... I will update my contact list asap! Feature heaven...mmmm
- Susan Beebe
Any word on getting other mail addresses to only need authorization once? Have to approve my emails from my cell phone every time is a royal pita!! Pretty please make att.net a single-authorization mail????? Especially since it's an authorized address!!
- RudĩϐЯaЯïan
I'm with Rudi. I'm also with ATT.net so will wait for solutions. Molly

So should we replace the old <username>+plaza360demos@mail2ff.com with share@friendfeed.com ?

Wow, c'è pure un'esame!? Non bastava volftp a farmi sentir vintage (cit) ;))

"I said that and I’ll say it again. Stomping. Design is best with stomping. If you have to stomp to make the device work, then it’s good. Unless it’s a television. This is what you throw the tiny broken tv into. Then you stomp it. With the ironically titled “Armstrong Bin” compression dustbin, you can compact your trash and get a total thumbs up from the earth that the garbage is inevitably going to fill up!"
- Kol Tregaskes
from Bookmarklet
Kol, you know as well as me that this wouldn't work in real life because of all the gook that would stick to the inside after compression. If you have a dustbin that either precludes using it with certain type of garbage (apple peel, say) or needs to be cleaned just to remove the sticky garbage then it's not a very good dustbin. Nice concept though; I once had plastic bottles like that for photo developer fluids....
- ianf ⌘
It would work perfectly well for under my desk - I currently have an unlined wire basket there, and never put sticky garbage in it.
- Robin Barooah
So what kind of garbage you have that'd need being compressed to begin with? It's usually the yucky stuff...
- ianf ⌘
This would be very useful for our recycling stuff as I always try and compress that without much luck.
- Kol Tregaskes
Bug. Period. I can be the creator of a room, but I am not the author of the feeds that are imported into it, nor am I the author of "descriptions" that are imported as comments. I am not the author of entries imported into an "Imaginary Friend" profile.
... Those entries imported with "descriptions" as comments then show up in "My discussions" :(
- Ahsan Ali aka. Slick
Ahsan, are these feeds imported by you or someone else? I have many rooms with feeds I've imported and have editing access to them. Or do you mean something else?
- Kol Tregaskes
Yeah, if I add a feed to a room, and have that feed use descriptions (first comment) it uses my user account as the poster of that first comment - it would be better if that imported description/first comment could be authored by the room
- Chris Heath
I have a "dummy user" for create room and import feeds, then it sign me also as admin :) .. a workaround is a workaround :P .. however is really annoying
- Lucio Riccardi - CantorJF
Steve, I love that I made a cameo in your post. I only wish my short URL was more inspired.
- Scott Gatz
Finally! Yay! Wish Twitter had this a long time ago. That's the reason I never use full links that get converted. I change the www. to w3 .website.com and that way everyone can see the full link still and copy and paste it if they want to view the site. I got annoyed at clicking on duplicate TinyURLs.
- Adam
I use the greasemonkey script tinyurl-ru at http://kapranoff.ru/friendf... but it only covers tinyurl.com and tinyurl.ru | Maybe we should do a community project that keeps updating that script with all those url-shorteners out there. | Alex, are you game?
- ĎÚβĨŐÚŚ Dod
Is this a feature that friendfeed removed? Because it's not working in Chrome.
- James Poling
I don't see any short URL's in FriendFeed anymore. all are automatically expanded.
- Rahsheen ™, Coach of FF
This is clearly not my cat. If this was my cat he's have one arm shoved down into the printer trying to tear up all the internal whirling bits with his bare claws.

Too Funny! Reminds me of the San Mateo Cat Shelter where one of the cats loves to sleep on top of the laster printer where the paper comes out...

1600+ to beat the FFundercats live chat thread. I think with this real time now on all threads we're going to see some truly epic comment numbers.

Ivan, no the picture speaks for itself. ;-)
- Kol Tregaskes
Petr, I have no idea what you mean, but thank you. :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
@Kol .. :] that, partially, might have been the purpose.... I don't know it exactly either. :] .. was I reflecting on a cat under the fax, and that it is hard to fax that way ... /?:] ... "underfaxing at its worst" ..
- Petr Buben
there ya have me ! :] .... see, to be honest with you, i saw this pic couple days ago, but i let it go, without posting it ..... what does that make me? :]
- Petr Buben
even a flat cat... faxes just can't handle the hair. You'd have to shave the cat first, else the hair will burn and stick to the drum... a mess! (I am extrapolating from transparencies, mind, i don't have access to a cat to test)
- Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
Hehe, Joelle. This is now tied for the 'likes' top stop. One more then, hehe. :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
Hehe, Greg. Blimey! Erm, is that not far from 500 likes now? ;-)
- Kol Tregaskes
Bloody marvelous, Kol. Wish I could like it again... too cute (and help u to 500 likes).
- Roberto Bonini
I couldn't believe it when I logged on from the morning over posting it and saw it was at something 200 likes! You all have a strange fetish with cats and fax machines, hehe. ;-)
- Kol Tregaskes
Am I the only one who saw this and their first thought was - My goodness did someone break that cats neck? It still freaks me out a little
- Steve C
Steve, it does look a little out of place, but cats are pretty bendy. ;-)
- Kol Tregaskes
They fax much better if you flatten them first. What?
- Kevin Pedraja
So we can put this post to rest now. :-) 505 likes final count, wow! :-D Good night all!

You can now choose which of your services you want displayed on your profile page. The option is available at the bottom your services page at https://friendfeed.com/account.... (We will otherwise select five icons to show automatically.)
Uh, bug. Nasty bug. I can't see some of my services, the box is taller than my screen. You should columnize them or make the list scrollable or something.
- Chris, Taskerrific Guy
I wish we could choose more than five. :-(
- darnell
from BuddyFeed
Yep, only five for now. We have gotten lots of feedback that the icons became useless when there were too many because you couldn't find the useful profile pages within the countless imported feeds. This lets you choose the few that have the most relevant profile info, but keeps the icon explosion from happening.
- Bret Taylor
Again. This is the same issue we had with the Rooms dialogue in the old interface. Didn't anyone check this first? What freakin resolution do the FF devs run at, anyway? LOL
- Rahsheen ™, Coach of FF
Rah, I'm 99.7% sure they use portrait mode on their monitors.
- AJ Batac
You'll take your five icons...and you'll like it! Thanks for the new feature.
- Mark Krynsky
Chris Charabaruk: some of us on macbook pros and other machines don't use scroll wheels. i agree with others that the truncation bug needs to be fixed. and, only five choices defeats the purpose of adding any more. some of us already have more services set up are used to seeing them. don't limit everybody in the process of simplifying it for a few, if it can be helped. thanks.
- sɹǝɥʇɐǝɟʞɔɐןq
I like to have the ability to select more than 5 services :-(
- René Fischer
Bret, Casey, thank you for this. Can you either make the list of services on the new screen either scrollable or in a smaller dialog box with a scroll bar? There's a bug that if you have a lot of services you cannot see the bottom of the list. :-(
- Kol Tregaskes
Love this, but can't use it because I use too many services. I can't scroll down the list.
- Thomas Hawk
A vertical screensize of 1200 pixels fixes mine. Your mileage may vary. I chose more than 5 services and let FriendFeed pick, presumably the way it can, had i chose less than 5.
- John Lam
Ok, I logged on on a PC and used the ctl scroll wheel trick and it worked.
- Thomas Hawk
great! I only want to show the most important feeds in my profile; and not clutter my profile with too many feeds that I include
- Jeroen De Miranda
Any word on the Iphone FF web? Or any news of an app? I can't see "my" discussions on the Iphone web version.
- orionstarr
That's a simple but crucial feature, in my estimation. But if I had to be fussy (which I usually am), the option to (re)order them would be also be good.
- Wayne Smallman
agree with wayne. I'd like to draw more attention to my blog, and less to my twitter ;-)
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
Good that we can choose, thanks. Don't really understand why only 5 though. I don't have "countless imported feeds"; I have 15, which does not seem "too much to look at" to me.
- Neil Saunders
Now if we could just select the order they display in - a' la Google Profile. Speaking of Google Profile... is FF planning on adding that to the list of services?
- Alexander Grundner
Hmmm, if the duplicate detector doesn't come back/start working properly soon then I think I'm going to remove half my services to avoid a completely messy feed. Any news on this?
Perhaps not a bad thing that I remove some services but diggs and GReader shares, for example, pour in all at once and don't get detected as duplicates and thus a right old mess in your feed. :-(
- Kol Tregaskes
Hi Kol, duplicate detection seems to work for me--if the link shared is the same--what are you seeing that doesn't work? Feel free to contact us using the bug form if you have specific links.
- Ana
Hi Ana, previously when you posted a Google Reader entry and a Digg entry then a FF native post, for example, of the same article they first 2 entries were hidden under "Related entries". This doesn't happen now and everything is shown and making a mess of the feeds. For example this: http://ff.im/332sj and this http://ff.im/32ZaZ would have been detected as duplicates and one of them...
- Kol Tregaskes
Ana, I have noticed that dupe-detection works everywhere but on profile pages.
- Daniel Sims
I removed my Facebook feed. My Facebook posts were importing into FF even though I had them switched off in the FF settings. So anything I posted to Twitter was showing up twice in FF.
- David Cook
from fftogo
David, yep same here. I've tried putting my FB back on without status updates but he status updates are still coming through. :-(
- Kol Tregaskes
I have the same problem, especially from someone who was imported as my friend by FF and who was found on Twitter and identi.ca and Plurk, etc., and who multiplexes to all of these. My solution was to "hide" a message from one of the dupe sources, and to use the "hide more like this". But a proper dupe detection across sources would be very, very welcome.
- Uche Ogbuji
Uche, FriendFeed have never been able to dup detect between the micro-blogging services but did for other services. Yes it would be ideal if FF could detect duplicates from all services.
- Kol Tregaskes
I waited too long to do it on mine. Making it more useful is good. It integrates well and doesn't reduce the functionality any.
- Dustin Sallings
We almost did last night and opted to wait. Sounds like I should try it.
- Bill
Are you guys using the Patch Stick to run Boxee on your Apple TV, or did you install Boxee on your Apple TV?
- Gerard Lagana
YES! Boxee is the greatest thing you will ever do for your AppleTV and viewing experience . . . get the Patchstick now and start it up! Hulu through Boxee is the best!
- Zach Holmquist
Were can I get the Patchstick from, or is it something I need to put together with software?
- Gerard Lagana
@Zach: I read through the documentation, and it looks pretty straight forward. However, they mentioned that only certain flash drives will work. Which flash drive did you use, and did you have any issues with it? One thing I found a little confusing was the XBMC/Boxee install. Do you install both, or only one of them?
- Gerard Lagana
It is quite straight forward. And i think they both install together....
- Roberto Bonini
@Frank: Great. Have you installed it on your Apple TV?
- Gerard Lagana
@Christopher: I watched the screencast and it was really informative. Do you know if the Patchstick from Google has the same features that ATVFlash does? Because from face value it seemed to do more.
- Gerard Lagana
@Gerard You might want to run the atvusb-creator bundle first since it's *free*. Check out the features and decide if you're happy with that alone. Support down the line may become an issue but that's something to contend with later. The aTV Flash software will set you back $50 for now and is tiered upwards for future updates. With the cost you're probably looking at better support, easier access to forum content, and some peace of mind($?).
- Christopher Harley
@Christopher: Thanks for the info. I think I'm leaning more towards the ATV Flash solution. For $80.00 they are offering lifetime updates. Not a bad price for lifetime updates.
- Gerard Lagana
love boxee on ATV...Comcast nixes a channel = more time spent on boxee...
- Jeffrey Marsh
I am currently using Vimeo as my main source for my vids, but I hate waiting for 3 hrs for them to convert it. Does anyone here use Vimeo Plus, and is it worth it?
Anyone one else having problems with the FriendFeed Bookmarklet? I'm using Firefox on a Mac and am having a heck of a time sharing sites. The bookmarklet keeps going to fullscreen and takes me away from the page I was trying to share. It's also hanging quite a bit. I've tried removing it and adding it back.
Are you making sure the bookmarklet loads fully before clicking images? I usually have this problem when i click an image to share too quickly.

I guess I'm the only person who sees a reply to @johndoe on Twitter and has no desire to follow johndoe. If I see @johndoe as a mention or I read a linked article, then I'll check out the feed and possibly follow, and that part has stayed the same, so I don't understand the widespread panic and mayhem. I'm definitely in the minority, I can see.
You used to be able to see when @someexpert wrote "@johndoe That's the best article I've ever seen on X. Thanks!" or "@johndoe just wrote the best article I've ever seen on X" or "Everybody should go read the article @johndoe just wrote on X". But for some reason Twitter decided we should no longer have the option to see the first two.
- Ken Sheppardson
I'm with you, I only like seeing @replies of people I'm subbed to. That said, I think it's in poor form to deny people the ability to see whatever they want to see. I'm no programmer so I don't see or can't imagine why that decision was made. The explanation they gave was pretty flimsy in my opinion. As to the widespread panic, eh. The squeaky wheels get attention. No other way to get them to change their mind, right?
- ♥patricia♥
Well it used to be an option - but a lot of my contact's twitter stream makes a lot more sense if I see what other people are saying to them... and there are quite a few people i have no interest of following EXCEPT for what they say when they interact with a friend. I used to be able to see that bit without subscribing to them
- Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
Hi importing twitter contacts was great but there was nothing about sending out subscription requests. That really needs to be an alert and and option. Also I don't know who those subscription requests were sent too. So sorry folks for bothering you. Cavalier stuff, friendfeed, cavalier stuff. You should know better.
All private contacts are labeled with "(private feed)" but we can certainly make it more clear that it means we will be sending a request.
- Benjamin Golub
